Small nitpick, at 5:58 you said memory when referring to the storage of the headset. Memory is essentially temporary storage for things that aren't saved permanently, I'm sure you'll be spammed with this but at the time of writing it's only about 11 minutes after video launch and I haven't seen any other comments pointing it out. But, yeah, uhhh, it does not come with 256GB of memory base, that'd be insane.

In regards to the UEVR mod, I'll say what I did on the Flatscreen 2 VR community discord. This is not something finished. It's not one big finely wrapped package. It's a question looking for answers. We as players and users are the pioneers going through thousands of games never meant for VR, and trying to provide insight for one another. Communicating, coordinating. A lot of time and love went into this project not just by Praydog but also by testers and others on a limited basis especially in comparitive to thousands of games. The last thing this project needs right now is more hate and divisiveness. Temper your expectations, come join the community, connect and learn some things with others. You'll be surprised and wow'd by the passion of everyone as we try to nail different kinds of profiles and overcome technical issues together.

@@gumzster We lose sight a lot of the fact these projects are undertaken by people. People with lives, motivations, perspectives, and area's of focus unique to them. And so it can be easy to have expectations and even complaints when the mod is focused on but the person is not. We can't lose sight of the fact that time, care, and a lot of sacrifice was put into projects like this. The least we can offer is our patience, our understanding, our respect, and our willingness to connect with others in this community so we can learn. If Praydog and others can spend years overcoming code, we can stomach a little time learning and applying ourselves to it rather than dismissing the hard work due to our impatience.

Agreed 100%. I think the single best thing UEVR does for the game development community is let them try so many examples of different genres in VR to see what they’re like and spark ideas. And it gives us the gamers a way of trying multi million dollar games that were never ever going to get proper VR support just for the fact that proper support requires a lot more effort and that’s very costly for what is still a really small market. Personally I’ve absolutely loved playing Spyro in VR, But I get that as an experience it’s one big vomit comet when played in 3rd person. Still fun though

@@ocbaker UEVR also gives the devs of UE4/5 games the easiest ability ever to "VR proof" their game. They don't even need to mess with any VR-specific code or software, just make sure it plays well with UEVR. This tool is the best way to prototype if their existing flat game is even fun in VR before they invest any significant time & money into adding proper VR support.

Gonna be remembered as the decade that AAA games came crashing down after 15 years of "the same game only prettier" as a strategy.. We're in the Marvel Fatigue era of games right now.. Big shallow games with fantastic production value that pretty much play themselves.. Like Spiderman.. You can play that game while half asleep... And it's making gazillions of dollars, so we're going to get more self-playing games until people grow tired.. And then the AAA studios will have little to fall back on. I welcome the downfall of AAA. Stuff needs a shakeup right now. There's been zero innovation in the AAA space since Arkham Asylum, Uncharted 2 and Asscreed came out and showed everyone that gameplay is secondary to graphics and accessibility. We're in an era where quicktime events won over actual gameplay, and it's pretty sad. In 2005 you'd have to actually hit something with your web slinger to sling yourself around.. These days it's just a button press and it all happens automatically.. Games took a turn for the worse around 2008 and we're still on that sad path. Games be real purdy though. We're also going to see 30fps making a huge comeback over the next 4 years until we get new consoles, then we'll get 60fps for two years and right back to 30.

UEVR proves that flat content CAN work in VR, and with a little work, can be compelling VR content. I don't believe it's so much about providing value to the PCVR ecosystem (though it succeeds at this), but it PROVES to developers that they don't need to make ground-up experiences, and with a bit of work, can make their games function in VR. Yes, some ports will work, and some will not, but it's a means to provide MANY more official VR releases to gaming platforms at low developer risk. This benefits everybody by increasing VR users, thus increasing audience for ground-up experiences. The VR community should have embraced hybrids for over 10 years, but bought into the rhetoric that it would never work. That's 10 years worth of games and growth lost.

I think it pokes holes in the argument a lot of studios (especially those published by EA and Actvision, who do NOT like VR disrupting their revenue streams...) make that porting or providing a VR mode is 'too much work'. A single guy made this tool. ONE man. And it works pretty well with over half of all UE 4+ titles. I think they just dislike VR as a threat to their established profit & product model.

@@WindFireAllThatKindOfThing It's an ultra-cheap path for studios (even indies have done it to their games), certainly less expensive than making a WHOLE GAME (assets, story, levels, sountrack, sound-effects, etc.). For 10 years VR has had severely limited content, and it's growth has been slow and uncertain, precisely because of these unsubstantiated ideas.... And people like me have been SCREAMING about hybrid gaming over its life. The medium could have been swimming in games. It's hyper frustrating..

Ghostrunner with injector is the first time I've felt a little off in VR in a long time. Definitely has potential as I've heard there's possibly a blueprint for weapon swing tracking, but probably not a good first VR experience. I'd go so far as to say don't make the injector your first VR experience period. That said it's amazing, not too hard to at least get started with, and it's free, major props to Praydog and anyone else associated with it.

Devs are just afraid it may impact their bottom line and try BSing people. Everyone who owns a VR headset, most probably ( practically a given ) played titles made for VR from ground up first. So, if they don't feel sick playing those games, and then play some jerry rigged injected modded unreal engine vr game, they will know it's because of the conversion. So no, 99.9% of people won't get "turned off". People just have their money pool that they are willing to spend on entertainment. If they have a library of 100 high budget UE games, and auto conversions work decently. It's less likely they will purchase some comparatively low budget game build for VR from ground up. So the market shrinks.

Funny, you really shouldn't have to say "don't make the injector your first VR experience" but apparently you do? Idk, if people go into it expecting perfection and having to do nothing to get it working well, that's on them. I wonder if they "advertising" for lack of a better word for UEVR could make that clearer, that it's intended for more experienced VR users (even though I think that should be obvious... maybe it's not though).

Or, in its current state, probably don't work to well with the injector and gives a bad impression, similar to the early days of emulators. Watching those examples of the worse results doesn't look good. It doesn't mean it will affect the devs bottom line for doing cheap e budget games, it just schewing it a bit. Its more like it will hurt the people that tried it since it doing something the devs were warn about when making vr, and the injection will just show why when not adjusted right. I am sure you need a lot of manual adjustments, updates for most of these games.@@buka9993

I thought XR was just a shorter form of saying VR/AR and mixed reality is mostly just AR but focusing more on VR while bringing real world objects into the VR space. In other words it's it's kind of reverse AR where instead of imposing virtual objects onto real world objects you're imposing real world objects into the virtual world.

That Sony set might be perfect for DCS World to hit and flip the many switches on an aircraft’s instrument panel. As all you’d need to do is go through the motions with your finger, and you can push something like the Master Arm or flip a switch for the exterior or interior lights. Either that, if that tracking ring can be used with other headsets, or a third party universal one came out, one could use finger tracking with your preferred headset. As I personally want the BigScreen Beyond VR headset.

7:40 - What do you mean no one knows what XR stands for? I was not aware that anyone DIDN’T know what it stands for. XR is simply a catch-all term to refer to AR, VR, and MR collectively. That way you don’t have to list them out individually every time you are referring to them as a group. It’s not a fourth technology on its own; it’s just a convenient term of reference. Rather simple actually. I’ve seen some idiots refer to XR as “eXtended Reality” but that’s a silly backronym trying to make the X stand for a specific word which distorts the purpose and intent of the term. The X is a placeholder for all the variants of (R)eality tech and content. IMO the XR term is quite useful because it specifies the full field without invoking the much larger big picture vision of the Metaverse, which is still too hard for most users to envision/grasp/believe, or Spatial Computing, which is really just Apple trying to differentiate itself.

I think "spacial computing" is a really good thing. It sounds a bit ridiculous for those who have been here for a while, but it may breathe some fresh air into the public perception of VR which has a mixed reputation to put it mildly. For question of the week: seeing as VR hardware, especially controllers, keep changing in shape and function, do you think we might see some issues in the future when it comes to compatibility of games/apps between different hardware or will the dev community manage and be willing to bridge the gaps between different directions that hardware manufacturers are taking things and how yould you go about solving this problem? Sorry if it's too long or convoluted, but with the industry expanding, cross-compatibility may be a concern.

Personally, VR as a term has gotten a really bad rep over the decades because we’ve dealt with really under performing, and sometimes lackluster experiences where I think using the term spatial computing signifies an evolution, or VR was to the next evolution of that interface is, and by rebranding, it will bring new life into the space, and then anyways have to growbigger than ever

I highly agree that the term VR as marketing for this highly most advance device as always been a worse reputation. VR sounded extremely too cringe and gimmick that people ended up thinking that it is just an expensive Nintendo Wii 2 kinda gaming console. Instead of marketed it as just a small gaming platform, they need to let people know that it is a true pinacle of device because that's what it truely is.

I'm most interested in the Samsung and Google headsets. Samsung being Samsung (the Apple of the Android market), I expect they will have special integration with their premium phones (and probably earbuds). The question is whether my S22 Ultra would still qualify, as by the time their headset comes out, the S24 lineup would likely have been out for months. The curated list of UEVR games is what I've come to expect from a nerd community, yes. It's exactly what I was thinking was needed to help filter out the...suboptimal options.
