The tough part is that Calif is planning to eventually implement 14% more MPA zones on top of the already existing 16%. MPA are marine protection areas. This means many more key locations holding rockfish and lingcod would be closed if species numbers continue to decline. Some of the key Northern Calif coast locations being considered for closure includes portions of the S.F bay area,,offshore locations near the Farallon' islands and all the way down to Santa Cruz Ca . Eventually Calif might have to reduce the limit to 5 rockfish and 1 lingcod. Simple truth is there are many more anglers these days and many of the rockfish species are slow growing species.

There's a cheap way to make a rockfish release its on utube from Oregon fish wildlife,all you need is a fish gripper and rubberband,its cool thanks Chevy and magoo

20 fathom is kinda close to the shore, some areas its 140ft and less...easy to get over that line and get a ticket. Can fish finder have plotted line for distance?

I think the rockfish and lingcod angling should be limited from 10 fathoms to the shoreline. I think the keep catch limit should be 4 non-endagered (non-prohibited) rockfish of any size, 1 halibut *under* 30" and 3 lingcod of any size per day March 1 through November 31. I think the area from the shoreline out to 200 yards from shoreline or beach edge should be reserved only for kayaks, boards, jet skis, and, boats under 10 feet long. I think 11 to 29 fathoms should be a time immemorial permanent Nature Preserve Sanctuary Ecosystem for any and all fish species to spawn and multiply. I think deep sea fishing of 30 fathoms and deeper should be 3 rockfish and 3 lingcod and 1 halibut (7 retained) year around, with no catching and releasing permitted (first 7 fish hooked must be kept retained and angling halted). The bladder tool should be discontinued and angling from 8 fathoms and deeper should require a feet-line counter reel.

You just need to be inside the 20 fathom line. Some areas can be deeper and shallower than 120 ft.

Currently they proposed 3 options. Option 1 and 2 allows few days each month and option 3 is full closure. PFMC will have a meeting on April to decide.

Reducing the take from 4 to 2 on the Vermillion's is a huge Loss for us. For those of us who run up to Santa Rosa/Santa Miguel this makes those trips no longer worth it. On another note, they should just open up Cowcod, it doesn't seem like they care as much about that species anymore.

@@MooMooOutdoors imo we don’t know anything needs to recover. When they said canaries were short I found areas I couldn’t keep em off my hook. Same as vermillion. This is less about fish and more about regulatory agency control. The people making these decisions just want to make it harder and harder for fisherman leading to eventually eradicating the industry all together. They’ve done it successfully at many freshwater lakes, we’re next.

They are forcing us to fish in Mexico more and more
