I just got a model x refresh and this video just made me even more happy about the purchase. thank you for such a thorough comparison, including many things I did not know. driving this car really never gets old. I am also shocked how much power you get at higher speeds (and you nicely explained why!)

Fantastic video. i instantly recognized the NJ scenery lmao. I enjoyed the video the most when you'd show clips of the driving experience. Buttery smooth, seamless, and the minimalistic interior make for dope eye candy. Moreover, it's always great to see a brother in a space we don't predominantly frequent 🤝🏾
Excellent review and comparison with the older X! Excellent level of detail! I did not know anything about the new X having a smaller form factor, but this is actually good. I wish you and your wife many happy and safe miles in your new X. (My only distinction for myself is, I have never traded a new car until it was at least 7 years old, so I would have kept my 2020 for a few more years.) I look forward to your next full self-driving review in your S Plaid when the next new release comes out.

After upgrading from my X100D to Plaid back in May, your thoughts are spot on. But dayummm this refresh is nice!! It just loves pushing up about 140, and the high speed handling with the torque vectoring is stellar for such a heavy car.

Contemplating purchasing a Model X, and this was a very useful review in helping to inform that decision. I am on the fence for a myriad of reasons, but this review definitely helps in clearing up some concerns. I didn't realize the previous iterations of the Model X were larger, so maybe I will look to a used model since I am a bigger guy...

Thanks you should definitely drive one and get one they are great. To be clear the older X is NOT bigger it just feels bigger, not to say this one is small but it feels more precise than the older models more refined. My wife and I were discussing if it made sense to upgrade our 2018 Model X 100D just this past weekend. Did you trade in your X or private sell? We got a generous offer from Tesla, I'd recommend reaching out and seeing what they will give you for it.
Excellent video! You pointed out so many things that one should consider, I learned a lot. I am going to be buying a Model X shortly. We have test driven the S, Y, and X and felt that the S made us feel a bit claustrophobic for some reason. Both the S and Y did not ride as nicely as the X and maybe that's due to the new enhancements. I do know that the new 2023 X's are arriving with the new 4.0 hardware upgrade that has been rumored to be near production. The one I test-drove had a 4.0. The new cameras had stunning views! The power was fantastic and got a big thumbs up from my husband who loves the fast "off-the-line" of his 6-speed manual sports car. Where do you get the detailed stats on everything that is in the car you are buying? I always want to know that upfront before the purchase is completed. The Specs that are shown on the Tesla pages are vague at best. The car and driver review was a bit better, but it didn't go into the nitty-gritty of the software and hardware. It should be noted that when you live in "very sunny" states like here in California, and other western states, an all-black interior can be a nightmare with the expansive glass roof! I've heard from other owners that lighter-colored seats are not that hard to maintain. I think the only things I disliked were the lack of a good side sun visor (I could feel my skin tightening going north on the 101 in the afternoon) and a larger front sun visor. Even though the front visor swivels in all directions you need to keep moving it more often. Any thoughts or comments on those seemingly small items? Again terrific review!
@BlackTesla
Жыл бұрын
Thank you the X is a fantastic vehicle and is the most comfortable Tesla to drive hands down. The front windscreen is large but has ample UV and sun protection from the built in tint that fades at the normal roof level allowing maximum visibility without compromising on impact from the sun. The sun visors on the side can be remedied with some legal tinting to the front windows. The stats of the car are all of what Tesla provides on the site but to experience them in person is totally different. For instance the base model X is tuned to be almost comparable to a performance variant Y so it's super quick, and has launch control. As for HW4 you will get that by default now but there is nothing that the car can do that will take advantage of the hardware at the moment. The only exception is the lack of ultrasonic sensors, this is something Tesla doesn't publish on their site and it means you will have reduced functionality until Tesla gets software that can accommodate the non-sensor cars such as autopark and summon. In the end just test drive the car you and your husband as much as you'd like to feel comfortable. I can say that you can't go wrong with any Tesla let alone the X.
Thank you for the video it was helpful! I got my delivered last week, was awesome but one thing I wonder is your automatic front door can open 45 or just 20°? My is always 20°.
@BlackTesla
Жыл бұрын
Congrats 👏🏾 yes the new doors pop open to about 20° then the rest of the way when you are nearby. This is a fix to the previous doors which opened to 45 by default which was dangerous when parked on the street and traffic is passing by. This seeks to address that.

Yes we have USS and that was a requirement for the wife since she needs parking assist at times. Looks like they stop including them for cars built mid-feb. We have the yoke on our Model S Plaid so we are used to the yoke. The wife was able to get in this and feel right at home. She just needed to lose the muscle memory of resting her hand at the top of the wheel 🤣

Beautiful.
Good video… I know this came out 6 months ago, but I just looked at the dimensions comparing 2018 MX vs 2023 MX and they are exactly the same. I have a 2018 MX 100D w/76k miles and unlimited free supercharging and FSD and was tempted to get the 2023 MX after driving it but wasn’t really a fan of the yoke. I ordered a 2023 MX in Ultra Red with the black interior and a steering wheel. But I’m not sure if I want to give up the free supercharging and FSD (I use it some but mainly just use the basic autopilot features). What do you think about the no park assist stuff? The black exterior looks amazing and I’m on the fence between black and ultra red. Thanks again for the great videos!
@BlackTesla
9 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. There is a trade off here in terms of free supercharging. You can charge free at slower speeds or pay to charge at faster speeds. If you travel a lot it may make sense to keep the 18, but the new features, new comfort, and faster charging Trump free supercharging for us and made more sense to upgrade. In terms of colors you already know 🤣 but the red does look good. Go see it in person and go from there.
@StBernardFan

I ended up getting the 2023 MX Blue/blk interior (it came into inventory). They let me transfer both FSD and free supercharging! The car is so much quieter and feels smoother and faster. I don’t like the steering wheel, might switch to the yoke. Also I’m not a fan of the seats, my 2018 MX the seats were fantastic. I’m sure I will get used to them eventually.
Thank you for this review. Extremely helpful. The comparisons you have done identify the practical reasons for upgrading. I have a 2020 MXLR with FSD and free SC. Other than the bi-annual Service visit to secure or replace door moldings for wind noise I have had no issues. I identified a 2023 MX demo with less than 50 miles and am going through the process. Waiting to see the trade-in value. Will cancel if the offer is too low. Think it is sad that Tesla will not transfer or enable FSD on an upgrade purchase and offer road trip SC. It is all software enabled.

@kenjenkins1262

@@BlackTesla I felt the trade in was low, so I rejected. Is the wind noise reduced dramatically from the 2020 MX as you mention in the video. I really like the changes your review points out, but it is a struggle having free SC and FSD and having to pay for EAP again if I upgrade - I would not pay for FSD again. Crazy thing, I don't remember thinking about the cost of fuel for any of the ICE cars that I have had.
I have a 23 MX being delivered next week. Haven’t even test driven one with the yoke. Hopefully my wife likes it once she drives for a couple days before I consider the steering wheel retrofit. Any changes “updates” of functionality of the rear screen. For instance can the rear passengers “kids” plug-in or use wireless headphones and watch a movie while the front passengers listen to music?
@BlackTesla

Hey no update for rear BT just yet but it does default change the balance to the rear when the rear screen only is playing content. Not ideal but much better than hearing kids shows out all of the speakers.

Hello, great review, my 2023 MXLR is arriving soon, can you advise me if this MX 2023 still got a radar? I mean in your one, is it still installed, I heard that Tesla took it off in new M3 and MY model.
@BlackTesla
Жыл бұрын
Radar was only removed from the 3/Y but has been on the S/X. However, the software may not be using them. Also this car has the ultrasonic sensors but as of mid-feb builds they are not on the X's. I think part of the discounts being given are to purge all of the USS cars so there is a clear line in the sand for non-USS cars.

Excellent video! I’m still on the fence to upgrade from my my 2022 3 performance but it’s only money-right? Any tax credit on this model?
@BlackTesla
Жыл бұрын
No tax credits but if you value the larger space and superior ride quality then go for it. The standard X is plenty fast too at 670hp 3.8 0-60 so it won't be a complete downgrade in terms of performance.
I got my Ultra Red Model X Plaid for $92K with free FSD transfer! The best deal on the planet.
Ive owned 5 Teslas, two Model 3's, two Model Y Performances, and a 21 Model S Refresh. Im currently in a 23 Model Y Performance, which I do love. I keep seeing all these incentives to buy a new Model X, with HW4, etc., and am so close to pulling the trigger. My payment would take a big leap though, about 300/mo. Not sure if I can justify that at the present time, but damn... I sure would like to!
@BlackTesla
11 ай бұрын
If you can afford it, it's worth it with current incentives. X is the most comfortable Tesla, and the standard is close to the MYP in terms of performance. Add to that the tilting screen, rear media screen and you've got a great family hauler or a super comfortable cruiser
Took delivery of a 2023 Model X last week to replace my 2019 Raven S. Thanks for capturing the differences. I didn't expect it to be such a drastically improved experience, but oh my is it ever. I have some creakiness in the falcon wing doors. Is that to be expected?

Thanks for the update. You mentioned the 2023 X is smaller in dimension and appears to be lower to the ground, but you did not give the actual dimensions between the 2020 and the 2023. It's appears/feels smaller. It's technically the same size and even a little lighter but it feels smaller. You have to see it in person to understand,and getting out of a legacy X and into the new one you will really see and feel it. It's a good thing meaning anytime a big car can feel smaller than it is its a good thing especially if there are no sacrifices in comfort snd space which as I said we fit all of the stuff we had in the other car in this car no problem no compromises.

It sat waiting for parts at the service/pick-up center for several weeks. Last week it was finally ready for delivery, but in the meantime the "demo" sale price adjustment was done to other Xs in inventory. The agent said they could not adjust my price but hinted that if it were to be returned to inventory (by putting my order on hold), then it might get the demo tag which is exactly what happened two days later. All S/X cars have ambient lighting just not colored or customizable ambient lighting. By default, your 23 X has ambient lighting off. You can turn it on under the lights menu option.
The lower the suspension the harsher the ride. There is less suspension travel when you lower the suspension thus the firm ride which is the whole point of lowering it. Firmer ride, better handling.

@@BlackTesla with all the talk just over a year ago about the x not having the wheel, I must be crazy opting to get the yoke lol! I like how they put the horn in the middle now and the wheel has no stalks for the turn signals so in my opinion the yoke looks better. Only concern was ice and snow. Thank you for getting back to me and so quickly!
Heat pump helps with supercharging speeds and save energy to improve range not effecting cabinet heat levels lol😂
Buddy what you think Y or X and should I add FSD?

Depends on you. If you are a bigger (taller or wider) get the X. If you don't have kids and are not taller or wider then go with Y. Obviously if money is a limiting factor get the Y, if not get the X.
I have a 2018 100D. Looking at upgrading to plaid. The price difference right now is tighter than I’ve ever seen it. Given that we enjoy the 6 seater so much. Question, tho. Is the turning radius improved? Currently, mine sux. Aldo, road noise? Can you actually take a call while driving now? Thanks for the video!!

Both have been improved check out our Plaid X review. The new X is so much better you'll forget all your problems 🤣
Neil deGrasse Tyson's model X, lol. You could imitate him perfectly. Car looks so good in black, agree about the dash, maybe cross stitched leather instead of the woodgrain....

I love it, what does everyone do for a living to afford these..?? I may need a career change!
Set your suspension to high and comfort mode.

Suspension doesn't persist past 15mph will go to standard or low on the new X. Comfort also isn't as plush so we had to make a custom preset for "comfort".
Looks mean, I especially like the triple black!
Is free charging with the older models transferable?

Sadly no it stays with the car
One main reason for me to get the model X was the size... If it's close to the Y then don't see the point in getting it compared to the S. I'm 6'1 with my second kid on the way and these kids will be taller than me so def need the more room

You'll have no problem with the X the most comfortable. It FEELS smaller but is still a good sized mid-sized SUV. I'm taller than 6'1" and have no problem so enjoy!

Wonder if you can get a "skin" for the interior wood trim?

I think you can we are looking into it
At $79,990 now is the time to order if you are on the fence.
Does it have HW4 and/or USS?

No HW4 but has USS
I think it’s a little weird that you go on for about a minute about how much smaller it is… when it’s not. It has the same dimensions as before. The exact same length, width, height. Did you have a black one last time too? It can make it appear smaller to the eye.
@BlackTesla

Thanks for the comment. It's the same dimensions but it feels and looks smaller you have to see it in person and you have to have them side-by-side. We spent time jumping back and forth transferring things and it was very evident to us. I said it feels and looks smaller I didn't say it was technically smaller. Both cars were black and perhaps the chrome delete contributes to the look.
Dude are you at Eagle Rock?!

Would the 2020 model be worth it for 60% of the 2023 price?

2020 is a solid car definitely worth it. 2023 is just next level

Cool X but wouldn’t you prefer to wait a bit for HW4?
@BlackTesla

No, since we get little usage of FSD on the X there's not benefit for HW4 for us
Planning to trade my model y for a model x in about 2 years. Have to save up a little down payment first 😂.

Just looked at a spec comparison. They are the same size, but the 2022 weighs about 200lb less
@BlackTesla

Yes they specs say they are rhe same size but the new one looks and feels smaller. Everyone I know that's had an older one all agree maybe it's an optical illusion of no chrome, lower suspension, or different interior components.
