7:48 '...time to move away from round dials...'. Fair enough if round dials don't do it for you, Harry. But to my eyes not only are round dials perfectly easy to read, and they look great aesthetically. You know, if it ain't broke and all that.
@RichardHartley65

Have to agree. I was surprised to hear HM’s comment on dials. I’ve always thought that it’s much easier to glance down at a dial and see the position of the needle. You soon learn the geography of the dials and it’s easy to relate the needle position to a particular speed or to RPM.

7:50 - Some idle musing on the 'round dial versus square screen' display issue... There's a split-second data-recognition advantage in having round dials/circular displays. When our eyes see a dial, the information is either centred (digital display in the middle) or positional (needle pointing to known numeral locations around the face). A circle naturally guides the mind to what's important. We don't need to think about where to look - we just react to what we're being 'forced' to see. Wristwatches usually have round faces with analogue hands. We see the time - instantly - we don't read it. A digital display, however, requires thought. Seeing the time instead of reading it is the equivalent of learned muscle-memory when playing guitar chords. The shapes just happen, faster than you can think. On a car dashboard that means our eyes focus instantly on the required data in the circle before flicking back to the road. With a rectangular display - especially a digital screen - we're conditioned to see it as a page. Childhood conditioning runs deep. However limited the amount of data on show, we can't help but concentrate on checking everything, starting from the top-left corner just in case there's something new. In guitar terms, it's like having to think, "First finger goes here... Second finger, there; third goes over there..." That's way too slow for rock 'n' roll. Glancing at a modern car's rectangular digital speedo, even when we know that there's no more than a speed in mph to be seen, we naturally spend an extra tiny fraction of a second checking the rest of the 'page' for fresh information. We can't help it. It's how we were raised. A few microseconds may seem unimportant, but in this instance, thinking is bad. Thinking of where to look takes our focus off the really important part of what we're doing, which is driving. In traffic. Surrounded by idiots. Idiots who are also thinking about the wrong things, rather than relying on their faster-than-thought reflexes to respond to the right ones. Yes, the time differences involved are ridiculously small, but they exist. Today's drivers have more than enough distractions already - countless gadgets and toys, controls and settings, touch-screens, digital navigation maps, media menus, phones - and they're being operated from an air-conditioned, heated armchair (with shiatsu massage function🙄) by a driver who's all warm and snug and cosy and probably barely awake. So a round dial that takes less time to read than a square one is... good. A driver who prefers to take things easy, relax, slow everything down, take plenty of time to read the dashboard display(s) because it'd be rude not to is... bad. Your views may differ...💩👀

I’m sorry, but what is the matter with the designers? I like the front splitter (well splitter-esque, at least) piece of equipment and the vents on the hood and the sides. Great review and first of many I have read that has given criticism. I have a Velar p300 and have test driven the new p440e Sport. I must say in terms of luxury the new Sport is fantastic. The P440e does provide about 60 e miles, which is okay, but if the bulk was less it could have n 90 miles. I really agree with Harry, we need to drive down weight to incease efficiency, perhaps the SUV is doomed. My criticism is that my dealer quoted me a 2 year wait for delivery. This compounded by a £20,000+ Mark up on a used new Sport. No new Range Rover for me. I'll keep the p300 Velar. Thank you Harry.

The front and rear look odd. Not awful but not quite right. The front has the lights being to skinny and then a wide empty bumper before the lower part with another bumper and the number plate looking like it’s slid down the car. The back again the plate is too low the tailgate curves round with no bumper or any sort of styling

Nothing wrong with round dials.. I always try out the options on the digital dashes of the various cars I drive, but guess which one I always end up going back to.... Just easy to read at a glance.
seems like a chunky boy, hopefully that means it's capable off road now it's not just a tall focus! any guesses why the passenger seat belt was clipped in, was something sat in the seat that made the seatbelt alarm come on?
I don't agree with you about round dials. They are so much easier to read at a glance. If it ain't broke......
Nice video Harry. I think it's a bit bland looking 👍
So basically it’s a slightly less colossal, slightly less grossly expensive version of the even bigger Range Rover, with the word “sport” written on the boot for comedy value.
How big are cars going to get until they start to reduce in size again. Crazy.

The maddest thing is the trend started in America where at least the roads have room. What the heck do you do in thing like this in the UK when Waze takes you down one of those 5 foot wide country lanes it loves so much?

Don't worry, if the forced transition to EVs is allowed to continue then in less than a decade most people won't even be able to own a car anyway.

oddly how we are changing to EVs these vehicles will weigh in at 3 tons + with carbon foot prints as big has Bigfoot lol
The Discovery 2 with the 7 seat option was already 2.3 tons, but I get where you're going. They should be getting lighter.
Interesting review. It sort of feels like RRS has lost its way a bit. The styling is a bit of a mishmash, it's put on weight so has comprised the handling, and has lost some of its edge compared to full fat RR.

Bit like my missus then
Love the channel Harry, I like the Range Rover S but it’s just too expensive, I test drove a 2022 but found the Audi Q7 better value, equal or better ride and although slightly slower 0-60 fast enough. Additionally the Q7 has the 7 seats which is ideal with 3 kids. Keep up the great work and happy new year 👍

I would be interested to find out what the cost of all the electronics are, also the weight of them in the 2.5 tons! Other than the electronic fuel injection could it perform just as well if all the electronics were manually controlled! This looks almost as big as an Escalade!
They should start taxing based on weight as well! I can imagine the stress on the road surface when this tanks hits the breaks at 130kmh+
You can almost see it depreciating… All the best to everyone

I finally understand the stupidly high body line. It's to show how deep into the red its first owner will be, and anyone who buys this post warranty running out too for that matter :)
The typical Range Rover customer really doesn't care how efficient it is or how the tyres affect the handling, the closest to going off road they get is chewing up peoples grass verge

. . . or going up on the kerb while waiting for the kids to come out of school.
So is my Stelvio ( 2.0t 280hp) measured at 64db at 70mph on summer tires, so what is so "plush" and superior about this RR, other that is atrociously overpriced?
You should publish all your sound measurements as comparisons. I assume the Bentega is quieter right?
Really not sure about it but still get excited when i see one like a new Porsche or something! Also please review that F50 already wondered if it came with the shoes!?
No handbrake / parking brake button / override is quite an omission 8:52 E60 535d produced 66 dB at 70 mph (Top Gear test) in 2004 - a little disappointing NVH hasn't improved much in 20 years
Could you review the SVR version when that comes out? Since this is not that dynamic and fun as you mentioned, perhaps the SVR will offer everything that's missing on this version with it's BMW V8/etc....
rich suburban moms gonna love this 😂

Well it’s a new model so you don’t know what the reliability will be like!
At 16.30 as the car comes towards you why are there no running lights on? Land Rover electrics already?
Why do they put two antennas on the roof now Harry? I agree about the sound, hate the artificial piped engine noise.
Its the Sports image which puts me off....it is usually driven by complete prats. Wouldn't want to be associated with that. Its also not a pretty vehicle...its a lump. So dumpy that 22" wheels don't look big - remember the original Range Rover had 16" wheels which looked quite big at the time! The original Sport was quite sharp looking and not too big. The price is also obscene.
