6000lbs is most likely a target weight for vehicle manufacturers at this point, at least in the US. US tax code allows small business owners to deduct 100% of the purchase price vehicles that are 6000lbs or more.

BMW did it to themselves. They have consistently shown their arrogance and tone deafness with regards to their design language, hoping that by talking down to customers and characterizing their own failures as being 'everyone elses fault', it would somehow make their vehicles less horrifying and embarrassing to drive. I will never return to bmw.

We needed this honesty! Manufactures need to see how they are diluting their identity. Keep it up Throttle House!!!

I swapped my roundel machine for one from the tri pointed star a few years back and the munich brand has done nothing to make me regret that decision, that being said going forward it’s getting really hard to get excited about anything coming out of Germany, and that makes me very sad.

We need more people like you guys, too many car review channels afraid to say these things in fear they won’t get these opportunities from BMW going forward (pretty much anyone who gave the new m2 a good review). Great job guys and this makes me appreciate my 2007 bmw so much more.

A vast majority gave good to great reviews, fairly saying it is great for what it is meant to be, and not necessarily a better version of the outgoing generation. One review was bad, just one. Thomas also owns a previous gen so I will take the most from his opinion. I get what you’re saying though, maybe that did come off a bit one sided. But perhaps, just perhaps these last two throttle house reviews are the only ones telling the whole truth? Perhaps, just perhaps they expect cars to make better improvements gen to gen? Can you honestly sit there and say the new m2 looks better? Or that hey greatly improved “the ultimate driving experience”? And for how much more? I have a feeling when the heated seat subscriptions make it to the states that won’t bother you either or half the people giving these reviews.

In the Netherlands it’s actually quite “cheap”. You can have a brand new one with all the options for 145K. The hybride engine saves about 60K of taxes here.

I can’t begin to explain how much I appreciate and respect the two of you always being so blunt and honest while so many other channels seem to be too afraid of expressing any legitimate criticisms or genuine opinions/feelings. There’s never any ass kissing from you guys, which is one of the many reasons why you guys are best in the business. Thank you the consistently awesome videos!

@@ValidAsian When you know a bit about BMW it makes a lot more sense. This is more of a sport coupe version of the X7 which makes it an X8 and the M70e cause it doesnt live up to full M cars like an X5M does. M70e means its an M lite hybrid and not a full M car

I'm glad it's so quick. I had one in front of me at a stop light recently and it pulled away really fast, which meant I could stop squinting and open my eyes without risking retinal cancer or a brain tumor from looking at that thing. In comparison to this, the Cybertruck design will age like the DMC Delorean, even if nobody ever makes a movie about it.

This is such a gorgeous and bold car! It looks like a concept car

It seems like a deceptive BMW business strategy to get rich (or not rich) people to spend an unnecessary amount of money for well… …it’s very sad really…

I own an e46 m3 and I’m so glad I’ve kept it mint all these years. Seeing these newer BMWs makes me appreciate my car even more….

Love my E39. I used to work for BMW. Glad I don’t work for them now. I feel second embarrassment for them already.

Id kill for a BMW that was the size of a G05 X5 and its Taillights, the Front Grill of a G81 M3 Touring, and the Headlight configuration of a G67 X7 It would look so good imo, I know it’s not gonna be popular outside of my own taste but it would be like a really fancy BMW labeled Rogue

Used to hate the Bengal designs of the early 2000’s specifically the 5 series. Those style cars look fantastic compared to this abonination.

I 100% agree with you guys on this. I was given the XM for a weekend test drive, and here are my thoughts: - BIG (it was very difficult driving this thing around town. It made my X5 felt small. The front hood is huge and imposing) - front end looks a lot better in person - Slow: I was disappointed in the most powerful bmw made. - Transmission was awful. Sport+ was slow. It was violent especially on downshifts. I left the car in comfort setting in the M1 setting. - extroverted: people were pointing at me and slowing down to look at it. I think they were making fun of my poor financial decision lol😂 - Interior is nice, the rear seats are very comfortable. My kids thought the roof liner lighting design is the best feature of the car. Somehow I feel bmw launched this to make people feel good about buying the X5M Comp 😂

Honestly i think if i saw someone driving this in traffic i would just laugh my ass of knowing he/she spend a shitton of money on a 'car' that does nothing well and looks like a screeming turd on wheels.

Thank you for the honest review, I hope BMW listens. I drove it, dealers are even having a hard time selling it. They were sitting on one for more than 10 months and were offering me a 50K discount. Still seemed obnoxious to spend that for what it is… even though I’m an extrovert… X5 M is still more convincing than this thing… 😅

Really looking forward to the road trip series, though I'm not sure I can wait another 26 months.

My bosses wife just bought one in tomato red. I want the front brakes off of it. They’re huge and the caliper looks good.

I think is car is more of a flex machine like the g wagon luxury n some kind of speed not the fastest but coolest in the sense of the G63 amg type of way, even the pricing is close. N I love it 😘👌🥰

A 4.4 V8 only develops 480hp….are we back in the 2000s or something??

Straight honesty like you don't get on most car channels

my god watching this video was such a delight, I don't even care about this car anymore after seeing other reviews, but seeing you guys' banter and jokes and stuff about the car just makes my day every time. Can't wait for the new series on the 30th!

Should this be called the V///M instead then? since it's based on the 5er? To me this feels like BMW is doing what all the other big SUVs are doing, throw in that hybrid power line to cut emissions and make it seem more environmentally friendly. I think the target audience is people with too much money and too little sense, or some serious self-esteem issues. Great review, honest, to the point, and clearly you're not just talking to make a video, you both actually care and have solid insight on how this would've made more sense. Thank you!

Their initial mission was to sell expensive cars to rich people. Then in the late 60s, to save their asses from bankruptcy, they revamped their lineup and marketed their cars as "driver's cars" to appeal to a new audience. They are simply going back to what they did in the 1920s.

Well, look at the Lexus LC500 which is 90% identical to the concept car. I suppose exceptions need to be made once in a while, no?

Good on you guys for sticking to your guns. Too many reviewers would have added a “but…” and found redeeming features or expressed a mildly positive view at the end. That makes your reviews worth watching.

Which would you say is the ultimate BMW SUV to buy?

they made the xm as a birthday gift for 50 years of bmw m, just like the m3 touring and m2. and as we all know bmw underestimates is figures of power, torque, and 0-60 time.

So… I think you guys could be the next top gear. Y’all might have stumbled up on the chemistry which they have been trying and failing to recreate with the new top gear. And it’s perfect timing as Jeremy Richard and James are winding down with the grand tour. You guys keep at your current pace don’t rush. I think you have something great!!! Looking forward to more big content like the road trip.
