2022 BMW iX Review // Fugly But Fabulous

The 2022 BMW iX xDrive 50 ($117,400 CAD as specced, ~$101,825 USD as specced) is an all new electric vehicle that can travel up to 521 kilometers/323 Miles on a single charge. To achieve this range, it has been thoroughly designed with efficiency in mind. This includes a combination of low power consumption for normal use and a low drag coefficient that approaches even the mighty Lucid Air. The iX xDrive 50 can also be optioned with the 30 speaker Bowers & Wilkins system, providing the driver and all their passengers with an incredible auditory experience, But just how does the new 2022 BMW iX xDrive50 perform as a daily driver? And is it worth the price among its competition? Watch to find out what the guys think! We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!!

    @@mustangmike3830 indeed they do know that, and they are BITTER about it. They won’t bring it up in any of their videos, but TSP did a really uncomfortable interview with a really bad interviewer in the form of Lew from UnboxTherapy on his podcast. Jakub kept making this weird reference to the F150 lightning content (maybe something happened at the event? not sure) and seems to think that the only reason TH has any more views is because they do drag races and not because they’re just making much better content. That whole interview made it seem like TSP thought they deserved to be the only game in town (Literally, I guess, because they’re both from the GTA) as far as Canadian car review channels. Honestly, I stopped watching TSP regularly a long time ago, but I basically stopped cold turkey after watching their true colors come out in this interview.

    @@wilmotown Interesting info... Jakub is literally the reason why I cannot watch their channel anymore. When they were somewhat new he had such a joyful carefree attitude and seemed to really enjoy each car they drove, but over time it seemed that the 'car reviewer = expert ' mentality took over and the arrogance became overpowering. I would happily grab a beer and talk cars with Thomas and James, not so much with the TSP guys... purely subjective I know, I'm just personally glad that we have Throttle House as an alternative.

That video is easily one of the most raw and engaging videos you guys have ever released. James: so is the Ioniq 5 still your first choice for what you plan to buy as your personal EV? For me the main aesthetic issue is with the "headlight to whole front" proportions. The rest of the car isn't hideous, but surely not anonymous (remember the Bangle 7 and 6 series, that are now considered design milestones?) If only it wasn't that expensive, it would be a commercial hit...in the electric SUV-ish market

    "If only it wasn't that expensive..." But you could say that of almost any car. Or any THING. If a new Chevy Cruze were $7000, it would be a commercial hit. If a particular brand of notebook paper were $0.50, it would be a commercial hit.

  • @wilbeugre

    @@toddstephens4431 The 7 is a milestone because the rest of the lineup took after it (Bangle's flame surfacing). That doesn't necessarily means that it was the most successful when it comes to the aesthetic.

    @@AisuruMirai please consider my whole comment. Any review will mention the price of the product reviewed in relation to what the its offers in compared to similar alternatives on the market. I was just stating that since its appearance doesn't seem to be the strongest "in favor" features of the iX, having a lower price would have been ideal to be considered the better choice among competitors.

  • @AisuruMirai

    @AisuruMirai

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Carl Gunderson My logic is not that the cheaper of two items will be the more commercially successful. It is that if you make a good product drastically cheaper, a lot more people will buy it. The things that make it so expensive are the things that make people want this particular vehicle. To make it more affordable is essentially to give away for free its most coveted features.

    I had one for a test-ride last week. It felt like driving a (heavier) version of my 540i G30. And that's the biggest compliment I can make for a car. It was silent, very comfy, went around the corners pretty damn well (especially for that amount of weight) and the iDrive 8 is WAY better than iDrive 7. However, the 50 is too pricey for me and the 40 doesn't offer enough range. So I'll stick to conventional engines for a while..

    I love your stuff guys. I really really do. I watch all your videos and they're/you're awesome. That said, I wholeheartedly disagree with your take on ideal EV throttle mapping. I know you like it when you stomp the accelerator pedal and the throttle rolls up the power gradually. I find that annoying and an antiquated characteristic of the internal combustion era. In my view (and the way Tesla and some others do it) there should be a direct correlation between how much compression you put on the accelerator pedal and how much thrust you experience. So you can feather it a half inch to an inch or so of compression and drive in a very smooth pedestrian way, but if you stomp it, SNAP, install power warp speed time. For me that zero latency makes for a more connected driving experience and is truly what makes EVs so much fun to drive. There, had to say that. Keep up the great work, fellas!

    @@hassanger8128 Not dumb at all. The Ioniq 5 is such a fantastic EV… the platform is on par with the Porsche Taycan. BMW dropped the ball again! Their designers need to be fired! All their talent went Hyundai. Hyundai N division is doing incredible stuff at such an affordable price range. I currently own a Tesla and have owned many Audis and BMWs over the years. I love BMW but they are not dealing with the EV revolution properly imo.

    Absolutely stunning package, even though I was never into SUVs. Honestly the only hideous thing about is the pattern on the grille, it would have looked so much better with something similar to the i4's grille. Also it's a bit all over the place design-wise for me. Sporty exterior, whatisthat grille, huge, modern infotainment system, crystal knobs and wood inserts. Can't really decide whether it wants to be sporty, luxurious or Tesla-like minimalistic (I mean touchscreen based everything). But as a whole package, it's just amazing. I'm starting to accept, that in ten years, there might only be electric cars, and the heritage of sporty or sport cars won't be lost with the ICE engines disappearing.
