Obviously Outlander is better in any segment of engine performance. Small turbo engine, like this 1.6 plus DSG gearbox are things to avoid. 10 years warranty or 200000 km on Mitsubishi explain everything...

Mitsubishi has done a good job with the cvt tuning, it behaves exactly like an automatic. The earlier Mitsubishi cvt had the rubber band effect and gave a very disconnected drive , I prefer toyota cvt than the earlier Mitsubishi ones.

Simulating shifts in a CVT pisses me off cuz it defeats the purpose of a CVT while putting more stress on it. Might as well just use a traditional automatic. I hate cvts all together anyway.

And I'm also aware of the DCT problems on Hyundai/Kia, in fact, I even experienced it myself on my friend's brand new Kona 1.6 Turbo. The tranmission overheat while we were just sitting and crawling in traffic, forcing us to pull over to let it cool down. That is just unacceptable for a brand new car.

I think they mean it from a comparative stance as they drive a lot of similar cars and might notice slight changes that most of us might not even notice. I for one find it hard to notice when a gearbox “shifts too early” or “feels jerky from 2nd to 3rd” - all I can really tell is the end result of engine + transmission if the acceleration feels slow or good to me.
