2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid - MPG Test | Real World Highway Range (Limited Trim)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The best propulsion choice for the new 2022 Hyundai Tucson is the 1.6-liter hybrid. It's smooth, torquey, and, as we found here, decently efficient given the size of the vehicle.

I own a 2022 Hyundai Tucson Blue HTRAC all wheel drive and I'm getting 29 to 31 mpg average and about 350 to 370 miles per tank on regular unleaded fuel in ECO mode. This has not changed since I bought the car brand new. If you drive in the city all the time, you can get almost 40 mpg. I just took a road trip to Galveston TX over the weekend and I averaged 31 mpg. My mileage may be due to the all wheel drive system, but I was a little disappointed that it did not get close to the EPA rating. It has saved me money in gas with the price of fuel these days.

@@jackson331 You make me feel good about our purchase of 2022 Tucson SEL gas only. With 90% highway driving I'm getting around 41 MPG from home to work while I get 36 MPG vice versa. This is on top of doing remote start because of the summer heat in Vegas. This are in the same numbers when we had the 2014 Toyota Prius. Even on 50% city driving I can get this puppy up to 34+ MPG by hypermilling. What's so funny was when we shopping for it there were only literally 2 New Tucson in the whole valley of Las Vegas. Someone beats us to the hybrid which was sold @ $39K. Out of our budget we settled for the 'other' which we are now driving.

@@jackson331 oh, that makes sense. This 2.5L is incredibly efficient on the freeway for a gas only engine. It can match my wife's 2022 Nissan Versa's fuel mileage on the freeway. However, before the Tucson we owned 2021 Hyundai Sonata SEL base with the same engine but with a little bit more horsepower. With that we get around +2 MPG thatn the Tucson. But we needed the room of Tucon so we got rid of it.

DM , IMO, this was was a good test, for although I (retired in May 2021 - 70 YO), primarily do mostly local suburban driving now, typical owners of this car are commuting with it with mostly Highway usage. Getting 34 MPGs with mostly Highway driving at 75 MPH is pretty damn Good. For comparison , look at a similar test of the 2021 Honda CRV Hybrid, which yielded lower MPGs than the Tucson. Another thing that you don't emphasize is the fact that for both Hybrids, the HP and Torque Numbers go UP.... I test drove the CRV Hybrid, and compared to our 2016 CRV Non-Hybrid, the engine response and torque had a stark difference with Non Lagging performance. I was unable to test drive the Tucson Hybrid (the dealer had 2 that just came in - Bingo They were OTD as fast as they came in - the 2.5 standard Non Hybrid engine, was pretty responsive, the Limited model offers ventilated and heated from seats (the Touring CRV only has heated seats), and it felt solid, tight, with better InfoT. system (nice large , modern graphics vs the CRV). Did you folks do the same MPG test of the CRV Hybrid? I don't want to make this a Car Review of the 2 Models.... there's is plenty of that on the InterWeb.

I have a Hyundai sonata hybrid, waiting for my Tucson limited hybrid to come in next month, I find I get my best mileage when I do not use the cruise control. I can easily get 38 to 43 mpg in town, although I live in a small town, , State College pennsylvania, but I am currently getting 38 mpg because I've been doing a lot of running around stopping and going quite a bit lately. But normally and for the past five and a half years my average miles per gallon has been about 38 to 43. Mind you this is not a flat area to drive in. Even the highways are up and down so I'm pretty happy with my mileage . I expect I'm expecting that because of the way I drive I will get decent mileage on my limited hybrid. In my sonata hybrid when I'm traveling a distance of maybe 4 hours or so I can easily get close to 50 miles per gallon. I I don't gun it up hills in central Pennsylvania, I do not use the cruise control and I just stay at the speed limit or a few miles about over. My sonata is an excellent shape but I want an SUV because I haul my sewing machine and quilting supplies to various things and I'm tired of lifting them up and out of a trunk, I definitely need the variable adjustable seat and I wanted a car with many safety features. In spite of the things I've watched on KZread regarding safety I still think my Hyundai Tucson is going to do very well for me. One safety test says it got zero another one says it got five stars. I guess it's very subjective.

I have driven 8k miles on my Blue model so far and average 41 mpg since new with both in-town and highway driving. I think a part of the problem with you guys getting shitty mileage is that you don't know how to drive efficiently. If you're spending all over the place, trying to race the guy next to you to the next stop light, and not coasting all the way up to stops, you're killing your mileage. You don't need to accelerate like a grandma, but you need to be light on the gas. And sorry the extra couple minutes to get there might just kill you, but keep it at 65 or under on the highway. Otherwise, yes, you're going to get crappy fuel economy and can't blame the car for that.

Remember, you're not feeding a Hybrid or an electric motor with that gas... the ONLY thing that gas is going into is that tried-and-proven Hyundai 1.6L Turbo engine. That engine was designed to run on 87 octane fuel (as long as it's premium gas). I just bought a 2023 Tucson Hybrid SEL, so yes, I have the same 1.6L Turbo engine in my Hybrid... my previous car was a 2018 Tucson with the 1.6L Turbo engine (gas-only of course). All I did for the past 4+ years was feed that 1.6L Turbo engine premium 87-octane regular gas and it ran just fine, no problems at all. There's two rules to taking good care of that 1.6L Turbo engine from Hyundai: 1) Premium 87 Octane regular gas 2) Synthetic Oil changes when required (don't skip oil changes and always use synthetic oil).

The actual terms are Hybrid (HEV) or Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV). On the Tucson, the PHEV has the same gas engine but a bigger electric engine and bigger battery pack, giving the PHEV Tucson a more powerful engine and extended electric range. In a nutshell, an HEV is a gas car with an electric engine that occasionally helps out with gas mileage, while a PHEV is a more electric car with a gas engine that can help extend the range.' If you keep the PHEV charged (you can always charge it at home overnight), it will knock-out the first 30 or so miles driven a day off your gas bill (thats roughly the driving distance of a Tucson PHEV on electric power only). If your daily commute is under 30 miles (say 10-15 miles each way), you can essentially drive gas free every day (but of course have to charge it every night). If you don't charge the PHEV, you're still essentially just driving a gas car, while the HEV has no plug-in, it's a gas car with some MPG savings with the auto-recharging electric engine.

The RAV4 is still the king of boring, plastic tuperware look with an ipad glued to the dash for interior design. I don't care that I get an extra MPG or two in a Rav4, if I have to spend all my time driving in a Tuperware-mobile. The Rav4 is a hard pass... no thanks!

How many people set the eco mode before they drive? None! Most of us will go normal drive.

Ummm... on the Hyundai Hybrid Tucson the ECO mode IS the Normal drive (and default when you start the SUV). There are four drive modes on the Tucson Hybrid 1) Eco (default), 2) Sport, 3) Smart, 4) Snow. There is no "Normal" unless you consider the default... which is ECO! I own a Tucson Hybrid, so I know what the settings are. Gotta love those expert opinions from people who have no clue what they're talking about.

@@wolfshanze5980 LOL absolutely. It defaults to Eco every time you start the car. You literally have to change it manually if you want another mode.

Rick, some say the same thing with the 2021 CRV Hybrid too!! I think it is based on How You Drive on the Highway ... If you regularly drive at 70-80 MPH as lots of us do w/o getting a ticket, the MPGs will drop Big Time.

34 mpg? In a hybrid that’s not good 😅 My subaru crosstrek with 2.5 L averages 27/29 mpg city And 34/35 mpg highway. Not far off from a regular non hybrid 😂 that weighs about 190 lbs lighter than this.

Yes, two extra parts to maintain but in return you get more power AND better mpg efficiency! If reliability is a concern, don’t forget the 10/5 year warranty on power train, battery. America’s best warranty as they say it.

My point here was choose between gas or go pure electric im saying hybrid system is not the thing.. guys its not! Unless your dont plan to keep the hybrid car 5-10 or more years! Trade in is the key! Chaching!! 💰 and more power for what? We do have speed limits on the road mandated by law.

I have a 2022 hybrid Tucson HTRAC and the BEST i can get is 30MPG in the city after 4k miles. Expect that Ford Mustangs with the 4 cyl turbos are going to get better gas than you will in one of these. Wish i could return it... i would pay money to return it. And ooohhh look a check engine light at 4k mileage. Bet it has the reported oil pan leak everyone is reporting on, guess i will tell in a month. And if you have a Hyndai will take over a month to get into the dealership service department... book EARLY. Better fuel economy... yeah right. Avoid this car and buy a real hybrid from a Japanese car maker. Should have just waited for the new Honda CRV hybrid or got the loud Toyota

My 2015 prius averages 45 hwy and 47 city WITH snow tires year round as I use my car for work and travel thru 5 states with mountains, long stretches of high speed hwy and city driving. At 260k my mileag has changed since new and absolutely no outside costs beyone maintenance with original battery. No belts to change. The hyundai requires an hsg belt change at 50k for 400 USD. If that belt breaks the starter/generator will not work and you sit by the road. I take a toyota any day.
