    Nice overview! Did VW finally switch to an AGM battery?

  • @rolandm9750

    @rolandm9750

    Жыл бұрын

    Battery is clearly an EFB battery in the video. Also AGM is not going to do anything special for you, far better for battery life extension is to put the battery in the trunk (i.e. no heat), which hasn't been done here unfortunately. But VAG has never done that with their lower end vehicles anyway, so it's as expected. Even Mk8 R still has its battery in the engine bay.

    Great overview. I was wondering if this engine is based on the 1.4 which has a rubber timing belt? I was hoping the 1.5 had a chain one.

    Chains are worse. You have to take out the entire engine to change them.

    Why hope for a chain? Chains can fail, as can the stuff they drive (water pumps) and rubber belts exert a lot less drag on an engine, and make for it to be more compact.

    Great video. I got the AWD version last year. With the simple engine bay setup, what do you think I can play around with performance wise👀?

  • @KJTUSKJTUS

    @KJTUSKJTUS

    Жыл бұрын

    Just bought one and was looking at it. I think performance wise it will be pretty limited due to 1. How new the platform is and 2. How small the intercooler is. However with the high compression pistons high octane fuel and small increases in boost can make a pretty decent difference. Depending on elevation with everything stock with a solid tune you could probably squeeze an extra 20-50hp out of it. If you got a full exhaust, intake, bigger intercooler you could probably get maybe 100-120hp more from it. But the intercooler will be the biggest drawback to making power since I doubt many companies will mess with trying to build a bigger water/air intercooler for it. And converting to an air/air can be difficult since you have to remove and cap off a bunch of coolant lines, remove heat exchanger, find space for piping and intercooler, etc. And all that for minimal gains in power

    @@KJTUSKJTUS what about interchangeable parts from other 1.5L engines in VAG group? For example the intake the 1.5 TSI EVO Performance Intake made by Forge. Or even the 1.5 Tsi Forge Blow Off Valve made by Forge. These would be more for the "phsshh" noises but I would be happy with just having the ability to modify the car in some aspect.

    @@brandonallen111 I would assume a lot of stuff will be cross compatible. There really isn't a whole lot of info on the platform yet. It will probably be a little while before major advances in performance parts start making way to market since it's a fairly new platform. Also the main focus will more than likely still primarily be on the 2.0 until VW starts to phase them out.

    Any idea what spec oil VW calls for? Online I've seen some people say 504/507 and some say 508/509. This is confusing as the former is usually a 5w30 and the latter a 0w20

    Got the same problem... It has a great torque, but lag is... crazy. Sometimes it doesn't do anything and then.. just jumps. Another problem. When I drive where speed limit is 10 MPH (my apartments, or parking places) it keeps 1st gear till 2.5K RPM, 2 to 3 rd and other gears goes under 2k. They for sure have a problem here and they're not going to resolve that. Crap.

    Anyone else having occasional high pitched squeaking when accelerating. (Occurs at city and highway speeds). Seems to happen when the gears shift. Lasts about 5 or so seconds. Stops immediately when I let off accelerator. I have the 8-speed auto (about 2,000 miles on it). Happens in "D" and in "S", maybe a little less in "S". TIA!
