Any step by step guide you might have on installing just the steering wheel? What all parts do I need aside from just steering wheel?

This is awesome. My only gripe on my custom is no steering wheel controls. Leather steering wheel is icing on the cake. This makes the truck perfect for me. Great work!

Do you have to have the high country clust in order for the upgraded steering wheel to work. Or will the upgraded steering wheel work with the factory cluster to operate the radio.

I just purchased a ‘22 Silverado Custom. I didn’t even notice, or think about steering wheel controls. I figured that came on all models at this point. I’ve purchased base models in the past with it. I NEED this in my life! How difficult is this to do, never doing anything like this before? Does the Dealer offer this swap? What exhaust are you running? My 4cyl sure doesn’t sound like that… lol

Nope - not possible. The base IOR radio trucks have a non color base cluster that is controlled with the single knob. Do you have to upgrade to either the 4.2 inch color screen or the high country cluster from WAMS, and add the wire to he added from harness Dr

So is the wire you pinned is run to the back of the Stereo also then to the cluster then to the steering wheel ?

Did you need to do an alignment afterwards? I've read that sometimes the difference is just enough to need an alignment to track straight. Either way, this is HUGE. Also, I am curious though - with the 2021s that come with the safety confidence package that has the steering wheel controls (along with leather wheel and LT style custom), is that a harness you can purchase separately?

No alignment needed, the steering wheel can only go on one way. You cannot rotate the wheel out of alignment.

I have a 2500 HD with only Cruise Controls on one side of the steering wheel do you think this will work on a 2500? I have the same radio. My truck already has the added features your dash display is now showing. I just want to add a leather steering wheel. What parts would I need

I just wanted to give a shoutout to MonsterTek for helping me get my truck totally setup successfully. I now have a working new steering wheel with controls and a working High Country cluster. I followed the instructions to create a new wire (with proper pins according to documentation from Upfitter) successfully. My radio controls work along with glowing control buttons. I couldn't be anymore happier and ecstatic about the whole installation. Thanks again MonsterTek, and I will be looking into activating my heated steering wheel sometime in the near future and perhaps (if advantages) upgrade/install navigation if possible.

@@monstertek7394Thanks sooooo much...I have been researching for months on how to activate the heated steering wheel feature on my truck and made numerous calls to dealers and vendors but no luck. I unfortunately bought an after market steering wheel with heat and front end detection without realizing I didn't need the front end detection on it. Nevertheless, if I can get the heated portion of it working it would be all worth the purchase. Keep up the good work and can't wait for a heated steering wheel video. Thanks again...

Does the part number for the steering wheel matter? As long as it is for a Chevrolet, does it make a difference?

Would using the LIN BUS wire harness from Harness DR. Make the install much easier ?

I’m intrigued by this! Would I be able to replace the instrument cluster and install just the right sided audio switch on the steering wheel instead of replacing the whole steering wheel like you did? Wonder if I could still wire everything up properly?

@@Nick-en6ps I found out that you have to change the cluster and add a wire to get everything to work.

The reason you needed the wire was to run the radio? WAMS discription on their web site says the radio controls will not work with the IOR 7" radio version.

Awesome video! Wish it would apply to my 2023 Custom. I’m hearing the 2022.5 “refresh” have a slightly different harness? Idk. I really want that leather steering wheel, maybe one day.

Plz give me a heads up when you figure out how to get the heated steering wheel working on the custom. That would be the icing on the cake for me.

Just installed my High Country Cluster in my 2021 Custom Silverado...took 30 min.....already had Leather steering wheel installed long before when i upgraded to leather....all controls work...added the ONE wire...GM sells this wire and can be ordered from any Online GM parts retailer....

Yes the wire is needed in any case. I have not attempted to install radio controls on the original cluster. I can tell you the High Country cluster had to be programmed for it. I suggest getting ahold of the guys over at WAMS (White Auto and Media) and asking them the same question.

Would you be willing to compile and provide a complete parts list? I would sincerely appreciate your further assistance. This mod is absolutely awesome. I was looking at spending about $750 just to upgrade the steering wheel with controls. This will not cost that much more and will give the appearance I really wanted in the vehicle.

i have put a few autostop starters in but its pretty rare, they are much more beefy than normall ones

I am sure they are engineered to last. I mainly hate the starting and stopping of the engine.

The air bag is easy peasy! Unhook the battery and let the truck sit for 10 minutes to allow residual power to bleed out. Then unplug the bag and have a go at it.

Did the check engine light ever come back on? I have a custom trail boss 2021 with the exact same steering wheel and I want to try this exact same thing.

They check engine light never came back. I am sure it is simply because of the amount connectors and components removed. Remember, computers run EVERTYHING here, so I'm not surprised.

I would pay you for you time because I’m really not liking my steering wheel at all I want the volume, stereo and call feature on my custom trail boss wheel and then after I would upgrade the dash on my own since that would be easier than the steering wheel. I would just like some help figuring it out before I open it up just so I won’t be over my head.

So I have a 2020 Sierra 1500 base. No stereo controls on the steering wheel. I just want to get that. So googled and found part # 13528612 is the part for the stereo. if I install just that will it work, or do I need a harness also? Anybody know?

I can confirm that if you just change the steering wheel and add the right side buttons and back of steering wheel buttons, they DO NOT work. I did this. Next step is WAMS and Harness Dr

Did the menu buttons work without the wire? Or is the wire needed to make that work or is the wire for the radio controls?

The wire is required! The reason why the extra radio wires aren’t needed alike the pre-2019 is that GM started using BUS lines, therefor many signals run across one line now. It’s super easy, and I’ll have wiring pigtails soon.

Unsure, I didn't scan it, I just deleted it. This one was chalked up to the amount of connectors and components removed. I was check engine free prior to, so I wasn't worried about it. Some guys don't get a check engine light.

Where did you get the pin and wires or could you sell me one made up? I’ve got a 6.2 custom and this has drove me nuts since day on. Thanks for sharing this. Hard to believe it’s only as simple as a wire to add this and the cluster update of course.
