2020 Tour of Idaho (Attempt #2)

2020 second "attempt" at the 10 day +1800 mile "Tour of Idaho" off-road dirt bike challenge from the Utah border to near the Canadian border. For 2020 I gave it my best shot and got a little further. Thankful for a "second chance" to try again. Hope that everyone gets a few second chances in life..
I gave it a go back in 2019, but had electrical issues on Day 1 that knocked me out of the challenge. Here's the link to the 2019 attempt: • 2019 Tour of Idaho "At...

    Nice job with the edit Mike. I can totally appreciate how much work it is. Nice job on the second attempt as well. Most people have no concept of the challenges involved in riding that much and navigating, and dealing with little sleep, and all the other factors.

    Thank you Mike! And congrats on being a 2020 FINISHER! You guys were absolutely awesome for leading the way - I was watching closely right before I made my attempt. I have very much enjoyed your daily TOI videos too! There are a few sections in the tour that I would like to see in person.. someday.. lol

    Good Vid of the Adventure! August 19-22 of 2020 I was camping and riding the area around the Smoky Bar! I checked every evening at the Store to see if any Tour of Idaho guys were there, no luck. On the 28th at the Powell Ranger Station on Hwy 12, I talked with 2 guys who were on track to finish the Tour. They said- "Would not recommend anyone to try it"... cause it was so tough!!! Kudos to You on your attempt!!!

    Hey Larry - you are way too kind. Thanks though! We may have been pretty close to crossing paths last year. And I won't lie - it was indeed very hard. Riding solo adds another dimension. lol

    Hey Mike, great video man!! A great attempt! It was so cool watching you open the door to your cabin at Smoky bar store and seeing the sign on the wall that said Fairfield 14mi. A really good friend of mine is from there (I'm just a short hop away in South Carolina). His family actually started the settlement in a way back in the day! Spent a little time out there one summer camping and riding around a little in the sawtooths. Between that trip and seeing videos like yours here, it seals the deal I gotta go back and take the bike this time!

    @Mike Olson heard that. I sure did enjoy watching you guys finish the tour man. Jeff Stoess sent me a link to your playlist and glad he did! Since I made the comment above, we've planned up a trip late July this year! Park in Fairfield, ride north on dirt to Wallace and visit a buddy there. Hope to camp along the way. More of a dual sport trip but plan to hit some non-death single track since we'll be loaded down pretty good!

    Just wondering...was the route you planned less single track? Some other videos of the TOI show very difficult terrain that would like not be safe for a solo rider.

  • @mikeolson7774

    @mikeolson7774

    Hey Peter - that is a great observation. My route was the full "solo" rider route that included all of the difficult singletrack terrain. To be honest, there were many times that I was more focused and concerned about actually riding (and surviving) than shooting video so I never even turned my GoPro on. Looking back, it would have been great (cinematically LOL) to capture the bear right in front of me on the trail (if I would have had it recording all the time) instead of just running up the ridge.. It would help too if GoPro batteries lasted longer. LOL
