    Mike Great ride on this trail. I have watched a hand full of videos here on YT and you are the second doing the Idaho's goat trail. Me myself to do that trail I would need some supernatural mind drugs. I guess I would say above my skill level of riding. Im a long time rider dirt and street. I been collecting some good info and bikes to do the BDR rides. I think my KM 690 R is the one to have, Hope your still going to try to finish the trail it would be a bucket list ride. Around Bend Oregon out on 2 wheels

    If your riding an off camber with loose rocks watch out, don't lean into the mountain, stick the downhill side elbow and knee out and stay loose so you can jump if you need to. Use a higher gear that way you won't spin your tire and slide off the trail. Be safe. When you stick your elbow and knee out it will help drive the knobs of your tire into the trail getting more traction. This is no guarantee you won't slide out, if you do, take it easy and move slowly and get out of that area carefully.

    Kudos to you for making the attempt. Bummer your bike gave you issues. But if it was going to be a problem, day 1 is just about the best day it could have happened. Had it gone south on day 3, 4, or 5, recovery of the bike would've been MUCH more complicated. Great footage, thanks for sharing.

    Couldn't agree more. I tried, and quickly failed at, pushing my loaded Tour bike at 8000' (I live at a towering 900' here in Georgia). I give thanks that I could at least get the bike to sporadically run for 30 seconds - enough so that I could get over a final ridge. After that I literally coasted down the backside of Robbers Roost. I have nightmares of this happening in more difficult locations... lol

    Hi, any chance the ECU became disconnected? That happened to a few others on the same ride! They unplugged it, then plugged it in and the bike started. Did you find out the actual cause of the failure? So very sorry this happened. You have a beautiful soul and spirit my friend, happy trails on your next ride!

    @@mikeolson7774 I noticed the rocks AND the angle, and immediately wanted to go ride it! Watching the sunrise from the summit must've been awesome! I've been binge watching tour of Idaho videos. It's now on the bucket list. I moved to Idaho for the dirt biking and am still surprised when I find out about yet more trails this state has to offer. May we always have access!

    @@daryljohnson6333 Yes, beautiful ride up with the sunrise - but you are also right, as the GoPro camera angle hides how steep it is for a fully loaded Tour of Idaho bike. Give it a run if you can now that you're a resident! :)

    Loved the video. Inspiring on so many levels. Agree with everyone on the bad luck with your bike. Hope you get another shot. I’ve heard mechanical is a typical way to end the challenge. On that first hill climb, it was epic! It looks steep on camera so it must be very steep. Using rough math I figure you were doing about 7mph. Does that seem about correct? I’d like to try it on a 790 ADV R. Thx for sharing.

    Awesome intro, just curious did you do something to that ground wire, like hit it by accident or pitch it when putting the bike back together?

  • @mikeolson7774

    @mikeolson7774

    The ground wire was intact (not pinched), but there was enough oxidation built up on the connection to the frame that it became an intermittent connection.

    @@mikeolson7774 Thanks. I'm really sorry for your misfortune. Most of the Day 1 trails are not far from my house. I'm familiar with where you started having troubles. It's such a shame because the good stuff starts on Day 3. Just to clarify, was it just a ground issue from the battery, which then caused your ECU to not function properly? I've heard of other ground issues with the main ground wire from battery to subframe. I ask just because I am trying to glean as much information as possible about these bikes for future reference and/or troubleshooting.
