2020 Honda CBR600RR ABS Review | MC Commute

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Years ago Honda’s CBR600RR used to fly off dealership floors. Big Red’s supersport has always had the optimum combination of agile, yet sure-footed handling and high-revving inline-four fun. Although the popularity of the middleweight 600cc sportbike segment has waned, the 2020 CBR600RR still makes a valid case for everyday sport riding enjoyment.
--
Last refreshed for the 2013 model year (read the “2013 Honda CBR600RR First Look” article), the CBR600 is one of the more versatile and well-rounded 600s in the class. Its ergonomics package isn’t overly aggressive and it’s a relatively comfy mount for a 6-foot-tall rider. Yes, the windscreen could be taller, but this could be said for nearly every bike made, aside from modern touring-specific mounts. We appreciate the wide, well-supported rider and passenger saddles.
Old school in terms of electronics and electronic adjustability, the Honda continues to impress with its well-calibrated throttle response that is neither too sluggish nor too sensitive. This makes for a bike that is easy to command. Peppy for a 600, especially off the bottom and through the midrange, the CBR is well suited for road use. Its six-speed gearbox and final drive gearing is a tad low, but that makes for a zippy acceleration experience. Considering its current MSRP, it should include an electronic quickshifter.
Revving the engine out toward its 15,000-some rpm redline reveals a sweet menacing sound, yet it isn’t so loud to draw attention. On the other hand, horsepower enthusiasts will be less than impressed as the 599cc engine is only good for around 100 hp in stock trim at the rear Dunlop. Still, if you want to feel like you’re going fast, without having to go fast (like Ducati’s almost 200-hp Streetfighter V4 S, for example), the CBR600RR certainly gets it done. A hint of vibration is present through the controls, which does cause some tingling inside the rider’s feet and hands during extended rides.
With its generously sized and nearly 5-gallon fuel tank filled to the brim, the CBR weighs 434 pounds in ABS trim. Although 24 pounds more than the non-ABS-equipped model, Honda’s Combined ABS is one of the most effective systems-especially for those who aren’t experienced in actuating the brakes in a panic-like situation.
When the front brake is actuated, the system automatically engages the rear brake slightly to help reduce stopping distance in a panic situation. Conversely, when the rear brake is depressed beyond the limit of available traction, brake pressure is routed to the front brakes to more effectively reduce speed without the thread of skids or bike instability.
In action the braking systems perform marvelously. Both power and feel are rich and the front brakes remain fade-free when used aggressively at an elevated pace around tight, twisty, downhill roads. Impressive indeed. Well-calibrated Showa suspension components further complement handling and allow favorable road holding through turns. Yet the suspension still delivers a forgiving and pleasing ride quality over pumps. The suspension has a wide range of adjustment so you can tailor suspension action to your liking. Honda could have selected a better OE tire however, as the Dunlop Sportmax D214 is one of our least favorites in Big D’s motorcycle tire line-up. We’d ditch them for a set of Sportmax Q3+ hoops if the CBR was ours.
Although the 600cc sportbike age is past its prime, a quick ride on the CBR6000RR proves that this class isn’t forgotten. Big Red’s offering demonstrates merit for everyday sport riders seeking an effective sport riding tool, that is just as at home on the track as it is on the street.

Same. I ride a naked gsx atm for the comfort but a part of me really longs for the super sport simply because this is what feels like a true sport bike to me. I love for clip on styles and fairings even if it's not the most comfortable nor powerful for most uses (streets less than 65mph)

The very same bike since 2013? I'm okay with that. But I think the dash looks more like 1993. I mean, I don't like the more modern TFT videogame-like displays, and I do LOVE analog rev counters and speedometers, but that dash looks really, really old. Come on, Honda, you can do better. I’m old school. Don’t like all the high-tech nannies or rider aids in moderns cars and especially bikes. So a modern sportbike that gives me an unadulterated mechanical experience gets my money. I currently ride a 2009 Honda CBR600RR and there isn’t another bike it’s league that I’d rather replace it with, except maybe a Ducati 848. The fact that Honda hasn’t changed anything besides the visage and a few tweaks, Is fantastic for someone like me. Can’t change perfection and you only dilute it with all the electronic aids.

I wanted a supersport but i also didn't want to be leaned too far over, wearing out my arms and wrists or having knee pain from the footpeg height. This cbr was the best of them all. Great review Adam. I went with the 2021 model (same as this, but with better color scheme), because I’m a believer in “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.” Honda is a prime example of a company that builds everything, from power generators to private jets. For them to keep the CBR600RR around with mild refreshes speaks about retaining the reliability / quality they are known for. The CBR600RR has always had lower power, but also lighter with a better weight distribution in comparison to other 600 super sports. Finally, Honda gives you everything that you need, and nothing you don’t need. CBR600RRs were always the only 600s with Combined ABS, Electronic steering dampener, real fuel gauge and plastic tank covers. They’re literally perfect for everything you’d want to do, cheap / easy to repair and I still don’t think anyone in its class provides a better overall package for an experienced rider. Simplicity at its finest and it’s still one hell of a supersport to ride daily and rip on the track. People call them boring because they just do everything so good without complaining.

But like you’ve said in this review time and bikes have moved on from then and although this is a 2020 bike its actually not really its platform is to old for me Honda just haven’t moved this bike on anywhere near enough. Yes i get it the middleweight sportsbike sector isn’t what it was but for me if Honda where going to launch a new 2020 600RR they really should have put a little more effort into it imo!! $12500 for this.......no way id personally save myself a few 💵 and get a used 636 or Daytona 675R there where it’s at when it comes to the supersports Adam 🇬🇧

It’s the whole package not just the tac which you don’t need if you listen too the machine. Everything about the cbr is Analog. It needs a rider. No nannies no wheelie control this, traction control that. The only rider assist this bike has is the grey jelly inside your skull. This bike Is the last of its kind, it’s pure and simple, which is why its loved by many. There’s a reason why this bike is still a deadly weapon on a track, hop on one and I promise you, you will understand.

I hope people aren't missing the point you were making (I think). It isn't about what the bike is missing but what they are charging despite those absences. Kawi is cheaper. Yamaha comes with ABS and many tech options that the Honda is missing for a lower price. It's fine if they want to offer this with less tech but why isn't it cheaper to reflect that?

Question, I have a 2018 CBR and some times when I go over a sharp bump there is a sound like metal on metal clunk sound coming from the Ignition area. Is not every time, but it’s noticeable. I have taken it to get checked by a Honda technician, but they couldn’t duplicate my concern. I’m wondering if is normal, but I’d like to get a second opinion. Thanks!

It often seems best to buy a previous year model Honda cbr600rr (or even 2 years back if you have to). I've seen them sell with 0 miles for around 7000 dollars when certain dealers are stocking up on the new or current year's model.

I'm the sure the other 600's are good in their own way but for some reason the CBR600 is *the* sportbike in my mind. It's just the quintessential 600 to me. Damn they gotta modernize that dash. It doesn't really need a fancy TFT display but the way it's arranged now just looks dated. The dash on my 2015 GSX-S750 isn't any more modern but it looks much better.

What up dude, while is true that most def Honda needs to up their game on cluster, brakes, engine mount and windshield and the like still is a machine that most will only dream of owning. With that being said there's something that everybody fails to see: Which is inflation. Almost everything cost double on price. I wish I could have this machine. Almost 13k is what I paid for a brand new Civic lx at Honda of Hollywood in 2007!! Wich was almost 2k more for a brand new Corolla in Cerritos. Go Cali!!

Back in the 90s with updates every 2-3 years I didn't think race replicas were going to be just a phase of popularity motorcycling went through, and I'm still struggling to get my head around the idea. Although Honda being conservative is nothing new, the CBR600 models long being the more road focused and conservative of the 600 class.
