Good stuff! Thanks for the shout out! I feel your pain in regards to the lil snafu you had with the knob bearing...I think I'm the only one that laughed at that...Awhile back before I had my system down. I'd constantly miss stuff like that due to focusing on the viewfinder and such....I'd have to stop, then reassemble..then pickup where I left off. And tool drops.........lolol damn good tutorial!

West Coast Florida Fishing Mods were super easy. One of the bearings was back ordered so it took a couple weeks to arrive, but they fit exactly. I also went with the 35mm knob instead of the 38, which works great for my purposes (PA bass and light inshore kayak fishing in the Delmarva area). Thanks again!

Great video!! For reference, the Shimano part RD17751 does not fit for 4000 and 5000 size reels for under the spool. The correct bearing size is 8x16x5.

Great video. Love the idea of upgrading my Stradic. I have the 4000XGL model. Are the bearing parts the same as your video (Stradic 3000XGL)?

I am waiting for the same reel and will be upgrading it as soon as it arrives. I went to the ebay site and it listed only 2 of the bearings. I guess I'll shop at some of the other vendors, Great video

Does replacing that plastic disc with a bearing on the shaft improve the spool wobble ? Mine still has the plastic instead of a bearing and it seems as if the spool wobbles and I was told that replacing it with a bearing will help… are the dimensions 7x11x3?

IF you buy gomexus power knobs make sure you use loctite! They have a tendency to unscrew on their own. I’ve had handles fall off after a day of hammering fish

I think that those gears are not going to wear quickly as they’ve been used for decades and I have reels brought to me that are 30 years old with good nylon gears in it still!

Great video! I have the Stradic FL in the 1000, 2500 & 3500 sizes. Love these reels but the slop at the handle bothers me. What bearing did you end up using where the knob attaches to the handle?

Ben Anderson They’re amazing reels for sure! And that slip can be fixed with some shims but the bearing is the same as the stock one. And I ended up using the bearing with the part number RD13269

Do you know if the Stradic 3000FJ / the FJ series is similar to the internals of this? I just bought a ceramic bearing kit for mine and am a bit spooked on pulling her apart as i cant seem to find a guide anywhere for the 3000FJ

SCNZ I do know the Stradic FJ and I know it’s not the same inside! It’s much more difficult to upgrade it but let me see what I can find for you.

What are the black washers and clear sticky pieces it comes with for?

Hi… my i ask if i purchased the 5000 sized spool for my 4000… would i have to also buy the drag cap … or will my 4000 drag cap fit the 5000 spool? Thanks

well i did the same upgrades to my fl.. added a pva knob though cause when i fish its often about freezing and having a steel knob isnt that nice then.. shimming the knob was by far the most work.. had to reinstall like 6 times to get it right.. overall the handle/ handle bearings makes the most improvement for me..

Great question! Swapping these bushings for bearings provides less friction and resistance as your reel works, therefore creating an overall smoother experience!

It's heavier and the handle unbalanced and the spool bearing will corrode. I prefer German or Swiss ball bearings and the Swiss Ceramic are reel upgrade. Ceramics are in a different class by themselves.

Everything in the video will directly fit on a 2500! You shouldn’t have any issues!

I am looking for a new Shimano reel ( a replacement for my old daiwa 4500) on a 8 ft sportex black pearl travel rod i recently bought in germany. I live in the Netherlands and fish for pike, bass and wil take it on our holiday trips. A few people have been saying that the smaller FL's are good and strong but, the bigger 4000 and 5000's the drag Doesn't hold up against big fish like people thought. Will doing these upgrades help it out alot ? Thank you

I’m not sure about increasing the drag power and preformance as we didn’t touch the drag system at all.. unfortunately the drag is going to stay the same all the way up. The only thing I could think of is to use a more high quality carbon fiber to allow enough heat to dissipate faster and allow the drag to withstand more.. sorry I wish I helped!

Hi, apologies for a slightly unrelated subject. I need to replace a handle knob on my Sustain 2500 FE, however Shimano Australia advised that the part is superseded. Can you suggest any aftermarket brands which can offer a knob replacement? Alternatively, can the whole handle assembly be replaced with the Gomexus 98mm double handle? Cheers

Any of the gomexus knobs will replace your handle actually! You can follow any of my gomexus tutorials and it should be the exact same. What year was your sustain??

I have three of these reels in the 2500 version and have had to replace the roller bearings on multiple occasions due to corrosion and loud noise when reeling/working lures. Do you have a solution for this issue??

Yes all I do is pack that line roller with shimano grease and that will make the line roller lady a lot longer

They will work exactly the same the only difference between the 2500-3000 is the depth of the spool!

I have just got myself a brand new Shimano Stradic FL 5000 and wonder if i am supposed to use the same part numbers as you had on the 3000 (or is it the same on all models?) I also noticed that my reel came with a different orginal handle than the 3000 model.

BB O you do not need the Stella spool support 13274 but you do need the RD13269 for the Handle support Bearing

Just got the exact same reel... Didn't know there were upgrades that can be. Never done just tried servicing stadic fk 3000 the other.. First trying to service my own reel.. Worm everything taking apart.. Was a mission and now my anti reverse isn't working. Will have to open again and look. Yes you can put bearing in according to size of the nylon bushing it doesn’t have to have a compatitable part with another reel. Yeah servicing them can be tricky I like to record myself just to see where things go back sometimes! Did you get your reel fixed?

I bought a CI4+ the other day by a friends recommendation; I did not realize after getting home with my new reel and did some research that this new FL model had been released and the new CI4+ is anticipated to be released sometime this coming year. So today i exchanged the CI4+ for the FL and plan on picking up a CI4+ when the updated model comes out. You think I made the right move? Couldn’t stand to think that my new CI4 would soon be an out going model within a few months of owning it. I’m pairing my Stradic FL with a 7ft St Croix Tidemaster. Definitely plan on doing the upgrades you did to yours!

Marshall l : I think you made an awesome decision! I just recently bought a Ci4+ and will keep it until the new one gets closer to releasing and then I’ll try to sell to upgrade. For the handle knob? Tight but without proper shims it will get too tight when you swcrew it in. I used the shims that came with the knob! Did I answer your question??

I love to grease them before putting them into the reel to produce a barrier impenetrable to saltwater to make the bearings last longer!

I work at Betts fishing center in largo Florida and we sell reel parts to the public! If you don’t have a tackle store near you doing reel service who sells parts then you can always click the link in the description to go straight to the direct fitment bearing I found on eBay!

Great vid. Their is a vid with a guy from an asian country who adds 2 extra bearings and a part from the vanquish 19, check it out. How much smoother is the reel with the bearing upgrade???? Did the worm gear bearing make a big difference??

How tight are you supposed to tighten the knob screw? I had to very lightly tighten mine in order for the knob to spin well. Anything tighter and it wouldn’t spin hardly.

Improper shimming can cause this. Review your shim placement.

6atlantis great question actually!! The superior reel would be the Stradic FL due to the massive upgrades with the long stroke spool, micromodule 2 gears from the Stella, and the new sealing design!

For the 4000 same little bearing on the back as the 3000 but the big one under the spool is 8x16x5

That one is a 38mm but they also have a 35mm! It’s a little bit smaller should be perfect

Yes you can upgrade all of these for the Stradic Ci4+ Series as well! And are you asking about the part number for the bearing replacement for the handle knob?

Also I notice you list a handle nearing separate. Didn't the Gomexus come with a bearing?

Jean-Baptiste Schalber honestly I got the 38mm knob but if I were to buy another one I would get the 35mm knob.. I hope that helps your decision! It’s not that it’s too big I just wish I would have went smaller!

West Coast Florida Fishing thank’s They suggest picking the 38 or 41 for the 3000 but seams a little overkill for freshwater and compared to the size of the reels

Jose Labrador I can definitely put that on my to do list! It’s basically the same exact method as the Stradic FK but it would be nice to see the exact reel you own being worked on. I will upgrade my 3000 Ci4+ FB for a video just for you 😁👌🏽

@@WestCoastFloridaFishing i didn't. Lol. I literally followed ur vid to a T and was able to service a ci4+ stradic. Just some kind of cupping thing somewhere i forget but pretty much the same. I just bought anew pinion gear and a zirconium bearing for the pinion ⚙. Ty brah.

I bought the same reel and also trying to upgrade to the Gomexus power knob but the I put the screw in the ball knob will not spin. What am I doing wrong ? Please help !

Make sure you’ve added the proper about of shims or else it will get too tight on the handle and not work correctly.

There is a size difference between the 2500,3000 and the 4000,5000 but not a difference between 2500 and 3000. Also no difference between 4000 and 5000. This is why you see a “C”3000 that ‘C’ is noting a compact reel=same body size. Different spool Size. Same with the ‘C’5000 and the 4000. Thanks for the comment!

so does the original bearing you missed sit on top of the shim (so the missing bearing the very last in before screw)

5mins 45. Process for knob is... remove handle and existing bushing, add 1dt bearing (is there no shim/washer put on before this?) then put on the new handle on followed by 2nd bearing and a shim/washer) lastly fastening screw and top part of knob. In short 2 bearings but how many shim/washer....1 or 2? Thanks in advance for answering! Hope this makes sense?

Simon Trudgen yep you cleared it all up for me! I add usually 1 OR 2 shims before putting the bushing on then the handle knob and then the bearing and then the shim and then the screw. It all depends on how much play your handle has after installing the new knob!! Shim it to your liking! It varies with each reel so it’s hard to say “put two in” because that couldve shimmed it too much. Use your judgement best!

Will the same sized bearing work for the 4000 Stradic? Or do I need bigger bearings?

Vegh good question! The worm gear bushing is the same size but the spool support beading is a different size.. look up the part number for the bearing on the spool support shaft for the 4000 size Stella and that’s the bearing I would use! Good luck with your prodject!

Nam Bui the parts of the worm gear bushing and the handle knob will be the same but the spool bearing is different!

I work at a tackle shop that does reel service so I purchase them directly from shimano! Any store near you that does reel service might be able to sell you bearings if you ask!!

They typically come with some slight “gear lashing” which can be fixed by adding a shim onto the main gear and I will make a video about that in the near future but as of now, your reel is normal 😁

The bearings are slightly different for some of the different sizes I have a few different videos on the 3000 reel and the 1000 reel so far and I plan to make more! The difference between HG FLand the standard XGFL is the gear ratio is extra high gear when it’s the standard XG.

El Petazeta yeah bro absolutely! So the reason there is a little a handle play is because of the space between the main gear and the pinion gear. To reduce the handle play (or space) in between the gearing you must shim it out with gears underneath the bearing closes to the non-teeth side of the gear. Great question! If that doesn’t solve it then you might be looking at a handle knob that isn’t properly shimmer and that can be easily done by taking the knob off and adding a small shim until comfortable. You gave me a great idea for a video so if any of this does not make sense I will be creating a video on how to reduce the handle play in a Stradic so stay subscribed to the channel and make sure you have notifications on so you can get notified when I upload it! -Isaac

I don’t always lubricate bearing wise but if I do I use Shimano grease and I have always went with stainless steel ball bearings.

Viet unfortunately the the shimano part number is either no longer in service or is an error because I’ve tried purchasing the part number through shimano and they told me it wasn’t a real part number... oh well.. I’ll try to get dimensions on it tomorrow..

Sparky Ishii Yeah working at the tackle shop I’m inside of reels often and A bearing has less friction than a bushing so it makes the reel feel smoother.. good luck!!
