That Merc has an identical dashboard to the C class - cost saving. One day we will laugh at those Walmart Tablets glued onto dashboards just as we laugh at brick cellphones from the 90's. The Merc looks like a hastily designed vehicle to fit a segment - the Cadillac is bold and a refreshing change from the masses - of which Merc has now become part of.

C class has one of the best, if not the best dashes on the market right now. Tablet was the only way to incorporate the display without ruining this beautiful center console. Caddy's interior is no match to its exterior. It's very bland and mediocre inside, definitely not 60k+ level.

  • @turbo_s

+sic22l Design is subjective, but you can't argue about the materials and the craftsmanship in the Cadillac. I prefer the Cadillac interior because it feels more spacious and to be honest, the Mercedes interior is getting kind of stale to me. It was a great interior, but to see Mercedes just slapping in the same dashboard as the C sedan, I wish they had changed it up a little.

  • @LlyleHunter

The tablet is high up on the dashboard so that it's on the same optical levels as the instrument panel. Many German cars are designing them this way intentionally. I prefer it this way as I like fighter pilot cockpit instrument panels better than having the cluster extend into the center stack. It also looks minimalist, high tech, and sleek and gives better visability than having a higher dash.

Where's the cost of ownership review? The Cadillac comes with 4 yrs / 50 k maintenance. The Benz doesn't. Further, the Caddy uses regular gas while the Benz "recommends" Premium. Gas, maintenance, and insurance are surely part of most car buyer's consideration. Both are fine vehicles but when talking price, the sticker is but one component.

Caddy wins hands down regarding ergonomics and interior design. As any owner will spend 95% of the time with the car from the INSIDE, Caddy is the clear winner. Mechanically, both cars IMO are equal although its a 4 banger compared to a 6 cylinder. Again, Caddy is the better buy.

GM, Mercedes - they all share platforms. Otherwise, R&D would be cost prohibitive. People see a nice LOOKING car and w/o consideration like it. As a driver, someone who would spend 10's of thousands of dollars on a car, I want the car to be reliable, look nice and a bit more important (regarding aesthetics), interior design must be top notch. The car has to fit me ergonomically like a glove. DOn't want to over-extend to change the channel, the a/c, etc (not every control is on the steering wheel).

Please the Mercedes looks like another German sausage cut of a different length? Have you ever sat in the GLC or drive it? I have. I have the stuck on screen and it is NOT touch. The interior is average for the class -nothing stunning. The Mercedes is fast in straight line HOWEVER if you don't for AWD the traction control systems is constantly kicking in causing a stutter step feel if you drive with any aplomb. I've drive a relatives Volvo XC60 FWD it doesn't stutter step like the GLC when you drive it aggressively.

sic22l People are not talking about traditional buttons and knobs to control the infotainment systems. Theses types of controllers aren't even primarily used in the vehicles in this video, they are either touch screens, which is what we see in the Cadillac, or stupid touch pad and wheel combos, which is in the Mercedes. And yes, I adamant that these stupid controllers found in German cars are the worst of the worst control setups. Not only do they lack the certain feel of buttons and knobs, which is the problem with touch screens, they also create further disconnect by separating the controls from what you place your eyes on, which we see with computer games. They are the worst of all worlds.

The front of the Mercedes looks cheap like there was no thought put into it the,,,, Cadillac on the other hand is bold and flashy and looks expensive!!! More thought was put into the exterior design of the Cadillac XT5 than the Mercedes-Benz and if it was me I would take the Cadillac because when you're driving on the freeway people don't see the interior of the car they look at the exterior and to me the exterior is just as important as the interior!!! And to me the Cadillac XT5 is a head turner with those bold flash headlights when you see those coming behind you on the freeway you know that Cadillac is behind you and then when it is passing you you just stare at it because of how gorgeous it looks😍😍 now now into the interiors of the cars the Cadillac has a modern but classy look to it,,,, The Mercedes-Benz on the other hand is a very nice interior but doesn't have that Rich feeling to it like the Cadillac does if you know what I mean ? Anyways I would think the Mercedes would be better than the Cadillac but when I got in the XT5 at a dealership it blew my mind away!!! All I have to say is Cadillac is catching up to Mercedes !!!

Both cars are pretty much the same for me in terms of how good they are. But when it comes to ultra-luxury cars, especially the high-end top shelf exotic luxury cars, the European car makers are untouchable. I actually like both the GLC and the XT5 though.

If the pretentiousness associated with owning a Cadillac wasn't enough, they went from looking like they were designed by an 80 year old to looking like a 12 year old's concept of a car from 2050 within a few model years.

So no one noticed that the two moddels were only compared by price point and not model... the GLC was a mid base model that didn't even offer cooled seats while the XT5 was the top of the line platinum model. Check all the boxes on a GLC and then compare equal features to price point and you'll find yet another reason why your wife will likely choose the XT5 in this instance. Mind you she would probably pick a Range Rover if she could!

weird how nathan mentioned that giant front grill as a positive feature. i haven't been a fan of GM the past 10 years but still have a weakness for caddies and like everything about that xt5 except that giant grill. the $60k AWD xt5 seems pricey for what you get, though. it only tows 3500lbs. the creature comforts, gadgetry, luxury, capabilities you could buy outside this segment make these seem overpriced. you could buy a decked out 4wd sequoia or land rover or lexus gx for that.

I like the Benz but I hated the factory radio that Benz puts in it. Without the premium sound system in the Benz sound horrible. It sounds worse than my 2011 impala with the bass set to 0. And it has no low end bass on the Benz. When I was in it. I played music on the radio. And sadly. It sounded like it was just there to annoy the crap out of you. So for anyone buying the car. Please listen to the radio. You’ll thank me later before you make your final purchase because trust me it really isn’t good. There’s no bass. It sounds like a 2001 Honda Accord’s radio that is old. Atleast with GM they redone their work with their radios and made them sound amazing! No more cheap tinny sounds from the tweeters. And no, no bass speakers.

I bought an XT5 2017, let me tell you, it's been 3 months and it's the most annoying car ride quality. I have a camry also, camry has a better road quality. XT5 cannot absorb any bump, if you put a pencil on the road you will feel it under your feet, you will feel it in your seat and you will hear it loud and clear. It's so loud that on a highway i have to play a car music (bose) at 20 or above to enjoy the music. Very loud, you cannot enjoy it, on a bumpy road you will feel like you are driving a ford focus. yes it turns head and looks amazing, but that's all there is to it. you will feel amazing sitting in it on a Red light or a stop sign, but as soon you you start moving this car, loud as hell cabin, and bumpy as hell. I dare you to put your head on a head rest and drive, you will get a headache in less than 30 seconds.
