2016 Gen 3 Mazda6 front bumper removal/reinstall Part 1 of 2

Removing the front bumper from a 3rd Gen Mazda6. Very easy to do, no special tools required. I also threw in a quick overview of how to remove the headlamps.

    Like a dummy I accidentally screwed up the connection for my low beam headlight replacing it. I just found this video and I'm glad I did! Going to be taking my bumper off tomorrow in order to replace the wiring assembly for the light bulb. Love the vid man! Great detail, no extra info that makes stuff confusing.

    I got it done! Our car is a 2014 with 130,000 miles, and we had a decent curb check awhile back that caused some damage on the lower driver side of the bumper, and a few pieces broke off under the middle front, and both of those top upward facing slots you superglue broke completely off hah, so it ended up without those two screws and missing 3 of the 10 underneath, but overall it ended up pretty sturdy so I'll take it! I ultimately got the headlight connector rewired with the new one and it works so, mission accomplished 😁👍♥️

    Man, you saved me a ton of money and headache. The LED headlight on my 2018 6 went out, and everywhere I went wanted like 2 grand to put in a new one. I got a junker assembly off ebay for 300 and had it installed in like two hours even with a couple extra problems that popped up.

    Really appreciated these videos. I could have muddled through it without but it's nice to know where everything is to avoid mistakes. I had my bumper cover off in about 20 minutes and was easily able to change out the frosted headlamp assemblies on my 2015 Mazda6 Touring. Going back on took me a bit longer because of taking time to make sure everything was lining properly.

    I'll be replacing just the bumper cover soon from my 2014. I have to get it painted then I'll install it. I'm assuming/hoping the grill easily removes from the old bumper cover and the license plate assembly should transfer over easily

    Scott L it comes apart incredibly easy. The plate bracket was 2 bolts if I remember correctly and the grill, lower bent and fog light plastic things all comes apart with clips and screws. I actually tore the whole thing down when I took it off, just didn’t post it here.

    @@416diy Just replaced the bumper cover and the valance which was also damaged. Very easy except for the 3 center bolts on the valance had to be cut off as the nuts were corroded to the bolts. Didn't have any washers so I drilled holes in 3 quarters and luckily found some bolts and nuts and they did quite nicely Haha.

    6:07 how would you fix that little plastic tab piece that broke? is it important, or can I leave it alone as is? I am planning to replace my horns on my mazda6 (isport automatic) with fiamms and I am just wondering if those hooks/holes on both sides need to be fixed, thanks!

  • @416diy

    @416diy

    I was lucky that I had just enough of the plastic tab left for the bolt+washer to grab onto. Otherwise it may not have lined up against the fender properly. If you have the broken plastic piece you can glue it back on, it’s better than nothing. I was fairly unimpressed with how cheaply made those corner pieces are, if you haven’t taken them out yet, spray the pieces with something that won’t damage paint, like silicone lubricant, then try to use a pick tool or small screwdriver to get behind them to carefully pry it out rather than than tugging on the bumper.

    thanks a lot, my mazda 6 front bumper fender clips are quite loosed and the fender pops out on both sides, the repair shop said it will cost $800 to replace it with a new fender... after my car put there for 2 days, I was told they need to order parts and it will take 2 weeks. I searched and found a place can provide painted bumper cover for $400. so I want to do it myself... thanks a lot. And because there was a little crash, the left front bumper is close to wheel, how to adjust it if I do it myself?

  • @416diy

    It sounds like the bumper mounting bracket on the end may have moved. It’s the piece that the bumper clips onto on the sides. You may want to try loosening it and moving it forward, just loosen the bolts a bit to get it moving. Just a guess though.
