As an avid believer in DIY, I'll be putting some videos up from time to time on how to do your own repairs on your car, home, maybe some phones, and anything else I find myself fixing.

    Great job man. I have been a mechanic for over 40 years and retired some time ago. I have been doing odd jobs on my kid's cars and all of my nephew's cars. The one i am doing now is a 2018 Mazda3 Touring. I did the breaks and they definitely needed replacement, but having never drove the car until after i finished , i hear a swooshing, grinding sound when turning to the right and sometimes hear a clicking sound when accelerating. I looked at the top strut bearing nut which i heard comes lose and it was fine. I'm thinking it may be the CV joint or wheel bearing hub which is my next repair. I'm sure you know, but you can use a small amount of spline grease on the outer shaft spline of the CV joint shaft. It is better use than anti seize since anti seize is meant more for static parts that don't move and it offers no anti friction protection on splines. I am very glad you torqued your fasteners. great work! And great camera work to your wife!

    I just saw your video. Is their a reason you changed the belt or just wear and tear. ? What i mean is did you hear a noise or did something seem off. ??

    Just being proactive. The pilot had about 150,000 kms at the time, belt was going brown, winter was approaching, and I needed content.

    Aha, you fond the solution! I tried that piece too but since it was loaned to me I could not grind on it. I ended up making one out of 3/8 plate a a few whacks and it was out. Im getting a sloppy fitting on the passenger side off the cross shaft. Im wondering if I dont have it seated all the way? It slides about 4mm on the cross shaft and I think it should be solid. Compress axle and smack it with a sledge and a block of wood?

    Do the wires have to be replaced too? At the same time when you replace the spark plugs?

    Doing this as we speak. Why and how during the car build did they "encase" that square bolt into the sheet metal? Thanks!

  • @416diy
    @416diy12 күн бұрын

    Why - because it's a cheap way to manufacture, and it saves space by eliminating the need for an upper shock mount. How - it looks like the square but was probably pressed into the sheet metal square prior to being welded to the body. The critical flaw was the sheet metal being too weak.

    Thank you so much. This is exactly the video I've been looking for for two hours. My Ody is due for a replacement belt, and all I can afford right now is the belt, the water pump's still good, at least for now. Everything else was including the pump and involved removing the front pass wheel, fender covering, and buying a specialty tool. I'll be replacing my girl's belt in the morning. For now, it's too hot, too dark, and I'm too tired.

  • @416diy

    Good luck, would love to hear how it goes. The best advice I can give you is to have a second set of hands nearby, at least to help get the new belt on.

    Chiming in with all the other comments. Thank you for putting this video together!! My issue was the front passenger and 2x rear windows could go down, but not back up using the front driver's side controls (the controls on each of these 3 windows worked fine). Id dismantled most of the driver's side myself, but the trick this video taught me was to remove the window lock button to be able to get to the circuit board. I flooded the entire thing with contact cleaner (saw some yellow/brown sludge drip off). Plugged back in and all is working. All thanks to this video!

  • @416diy
    @416diyАй бұрын

    To be honest I never replaced it, I just reinstalled the original part. If the price difference is that significant I’d for sure try the $37 part, only because if it fails in a year or two, it’s low effort to replace again.
