Google Nest Mini teardown (2nd Gen)

My Nest Mini stopped working and is out of warranty, so I decided to tear it down. All you need are tweezers and a T6 Torx screwdriver.

You can remove the Main PCB, too. Just firmly grip the metal base around the CPU with your fingernails and rotate the board anti clockwise to remove the PCB. You may have to remove some adhesive foil. If having connection issues with the unit, you can try rotating the PCB to the full extend clockwise. You get the feel, if it is in the right position. Enjoy!

Any board schematics you're aware of? I'd like to yank the mic or alternatively the LEDs like I did with my full size nest audio to disable the orange LED indicators that my mic is off, like no shit, I know --it's a dip switch. Feel like they're trying to annoy people having a static light when you choose to disable the mic

I'll prolly just desolder the LEDs, idgaf about them that much but don't want them on 24/7 just cause I want the mic always disabled

@@basdenhengst9578 - What'd you mean? Google Home is an IoT application for controlling smart device: This video and comment response(s) are about the Nest speaker, not Google Home. I can use the speaker as a Bluetooth speaker or integrated via wifi to either cast directly to it or add it to a speaker group like Sonos to cast my media to all the speakers as a group I want. I have 3 mini Nest speakers, two full size, and two Chromecast enabled TVs (via Google TV and a Chromecast Ultra) so I can link them all together (as I have) or speaker groups like just my living room where said mini we're here for that I just use as a smart speaker, not a Google Assistant mic to trigger various workflows Google Home can do, I use either of my phones to manually launch Google Assistant so none of my devices are active listening as (if you're not aware) it isn't just the keywords that Google Assistant gets triggered by and starts to record: Don't trust me, listen to your own recording histories. Do you, but I don't want shit recorded unless I know it's being recorded in my home.

@@basdenhengst9578 - Also, my actual point was to rip out the LEDs which is easy in the full size Nest speaker but not so easy as discussed here with the mini. Do you even have a Nest Mini or just were confused missing the context?

Great manual! I wanted to dismount my orange Google Mini because it is dead, and then use its orange body to insert the insides of another Google Mini that is working. I just like the orange design! But it seems like it is not possible. Thx for the video!

Is the switch you pull out in the beginning just the microphone switch or the microphone and the switch. Trying to remove the microphone and still have the wifi extender feature work

Please tell us (if you know) why it stopped working. Did you drop it, throw it against the wall, give it a bath or is that like me, you did absolutely nothing and yet the NEst just up and died? I'm reading that these Nests are dying all over the place and automatons are simply going out and buying another to replace it. I don't have unlimited funds to line Googles coffers. Now another of my bad buys, an (expensive in Oz) and not very old Chromecast Ultra freezes ALL THE TIME even during streaming. It is so flakey I am looking at something, anything to replace it.

It was constantly dropping from my Home. To reconnect it I'd have to do a full reset on the device and add it back to my Home as a new device. Tried google tech support, complete waste of time. Replaced it with a used 1st gen home mini, no trouble since.

I Bluetooth a subwoofer to enhance the sound quality of my Google Max speakers. I get it sound delay of about a half a second. The only way to fix this problem is to create an AUX out 3.5 mm and plug it directly into the subwoofer. I'm just insecure about doing the work myself and I'm looking for a electronic place that we do this for me. Any advice, thank you Frank

In Google Home app and in the speaker settings you can add a +/- delay. I have 5 Chromecast/nest devices setup as a group and have a delay ot advance on almost all based on their position to the wifi router but know that if you're using Bluetooth that delay/advance will change if you're source is not stationary such as your phone walking around and need a wifi connection to lock in static delay/advance to stay in sync. Bluetooth will even start to advance/delay on its own sitting in a stationary period over time with cache and packet loss. I gave up on Bluetooth being a multi-speaker option for this exact reason and only went Google over Sonos cause before Sonos sued them and Google disabled it, you could use speaker groups with any Chromecast enabled devices and not just Google Home devices as it now is and requires a Chromecast connection, sigh. Glad I bought two TVs with Chromecast built in only for that feature to die and require I buy two actual Chromecasts
