This is not a new model. This is just updated version of Freelander. Why there was no comparison to Freelander 2?

Thanks for another great review, I love Land Rovers, Range Rovers even more, but there is something missing for me, the tough looking more minimalist look, I guess those days are over. Best compact lux SUV. Thing looks great I would take this over an evoque

Design views are subjective but one thing is clear. The new design regimes at Land Rover are selling lots of cars and making a ton of money for Tata. They've changed with the times ( unlike some of the contributors to comments) and are making clear statements about the brands. So Discovery is practical, rugged and more affordable. Range Rover is high-end and sporty. This car replaces the Freelander and has price points that will make it appeal to families. It is not a luxury SUV but it is extremely adaptable and capable.

It certainly looks good, but the side is a little too "smooth" for my taste. In my opinion it needs some ruggedness added to the side.

They will sale a lot of them, for sure.

I hope Land Rover makes their vehicles with a TRUE 7 seat trim

This is probably the best looking SUV in the market today. Alas the reliability is an issue with Land Rover.

Good review, I like it! This will be amazing off road, yes they have had reliability issues in the past, but it would be foolish to compare this with other softroaders, due to its ability off road. If you want reliability and mooch around town, then the Lexus IS the car for you, but the reviews I've read, it's a really poor effort. LR will not lose sleep over some people's prejudices, because they are still struggling to make them fast enough, with profits at an all time high! If people want to moan about poor quality, just check out any Jeep!

The reviewer appears to be confused with his opinions. He is comparing the Discover sport, a $38,000 car to a Range Rover that costs $85,000. He should be comparing Discovery Sport interiors, capability and other features to similar priced Acura RDX or Audi Q3. Known the competition and know what the car strengths are. Hence the media event in Iceland. Any cuv/suv can drive to work and grocery store.

The interior looks outdated already It looks like the evoque which is starting to look dated... So for a new model hmmm I don't think so

Well said. I immediately noticed the resemblance to the Evoque, and not in a good way! Compare this to the Lexus NX, for example, and it starts to look a little embarrassing.

Fingerboarder83 lol. So, in other words, outdated/stale/cost-efficient? Those cost savings aren't even passed on to the customer either. Who even mentioned a Mercedes? Go look at the Lexus NX. This thing looks like a clunky dinosaur of a car compared to that thing.

NeutralGenericUser There's no accounting for refinement, subtlety, taste, or class. If you want something all angular and plastic-y that looks like the driver should be wearing neon spandex and a cape, then go buy and marry your beloved Lexus NX and be done with it.

I wonder how this compares to the new Jeep Cherokee in terms of capabilities.

Perhaps true. But it IS better than an Explorer. And it ISN'T a fleet vehicle for Enterprise or Hertz.

Autocar had their review of this thing from what looks like the same event up a month ago. Your video editors on some kind of Canadian People's time or somethin'?

They actually got to drive it at least a month ago. We JUST got to drive it. Being a British brand, Land Rover favors the British outlets first. If we drove it at the same time our video would be up first!

I guess few LR buyers actually want that level of offroad capability in their cars in reality. All they want is the traditional tough looking LR styling which gives you status but I think the new discovery is a total failure in terms of interior/exterior design.

Looks like Ford Escape/Explore - interior is a decade behind.

The biggest problem is the naming. A discovery Sport and a discovery? Too confusing. I miss the old land rovers the styling was so much better, truly capable vehicle (not a glorified Subaru), etc...RIP Land Rover.

2014 better than 2015 land rover discovery

Looks a good car, but ive always found land rovers are meant to be rugged useful vehicles, your not gonna want to chuck a load of rubbish in the back. Also land rovers were brill work vehicles cause you could bash them about and give them a beating and quite cheaply replace the panels....cant see that being a possibility. Land rover seem to of changed their target market, a market that in Britain they have always been at the forefront. I can see them losing these customers. But i suppose its a different target audience so they mus know this, just a shame to see the work horses of old becoming a dying breed.

What is the difference between 'urban' and 'suburban'? And I dont imagine LR would endorse you calling it a truck. SUV applied to a vehicle like this is enough of an oxymoron.....there is zip of the sport in this, and it needs 240bhp to drag its big weight around. I have no idea at all what a 'crossover' is.....crossing over from where to where?? A completely inane inappropriate dumb expression some wanker in a PR dept dreampt up.

what a load of crap. The engine is unrefined yes, but it packs a real punch. Go drive one, idiot. And its clearly more capable than its other competitors off road, by a long way. (audi, BMW, nissan etc)

thats significantly more than the jeep wrangler!! and more than the Defender.... Also more than most land cruisers... Water depths >2ft are starting to get dangerous from floating and or sheer force of flowing water.
