I have a freelander 2. I don't think it feels "cheap" or anything of the sort. . I think it's well built and will last for a good while too. Is there anyone else who feels that it is still indeed a good vehicle to own, as everyone who talks about it, does so in a very condescending way :/

then he is going to be disappointed... The Disco 4 is still a more true offroader. it has a V6 Diesel it has Air suspension it has a rear Diff Lock it has a real ladder chassis which makes it super strong. The sport has an Haldex transfer case.... it totally a different animal than a Disco 4

I am really not SUV type of guy, but now when I have family it looks for me more suitable than car. It gives me that safety sensation which grows in my priorities with each new day, security of capable chasis and what I think best interior in class. Even thou Porsche might be better in some cases, I believe overall experience for my family would be much better in Discovery.

Dude f*ck the SUV take decent Station Wagon! If you not going offroad you don't need one of this because there will always be some Ford Transit driver in front of you :) The Station Wagon is cheaper, more economical, more fun to drive, usually more practical and overall you take more car for your money because you not pay "the fashion madness" tax for the SUV. The safety is equal for example Volvo V60 and XC60 has same EURO NCAP rating for safety as the XC60 was even slightly worst before the facelift...

benzfen I did the math and talked with my wife and yes, it does not make any sense regardless on how much we would use offroad. More I have looked into numbers, less sense it had. Still, on our roads and going to family on country side it would be a pleasure.

D Gmaz I'm not sure if the SUV has strengthened suspension... you have to check it because nowadays cars are like "lego" constructor - same parts for different cars. Usually SUV are based on some regular hatchback or limo and it is just my tough the suspension isn't much different... may be I'm wrong.. but I'm pretty sure if you have bad roads it will not be much more reliable :)

@XCARFilms My father is looking into trading his 1st gen evoque in for a disco sport, but I've been wondering about the disco regular. (I'm in the US, it's the LR4 here) Considering the LR4 has the same turbo 4 that the evoque has now, would it be a smarter choice in your opinion to go for the full size disco or the disco sport? They have the same engine now so it's all about value at this point. Cheers!

Great review ! I love the look of this car and for a guy who has 2 large dogs, the boot is huge comparing to its competitors (such as the X3 and Q5) which is a big factor for me. As far as I am concerned, it all depends on the price point when it arrives over here in Hong Kong. If is closer to the former Freelander 2, then I think it will be a very attractive package, but if is closer to the Discovery 4 then definitely not so much and I will explain why. The Disco 4 petrol model costs a whopping HK$1.13 mil (US$145K) here which is almost HK$377K (US$48,333K) more than a BMW X5 XDrive35i. That is unless you opt for a diesel model which the HK Government has only just relatively recently allowed which will cut the price by a drastic HK$300K. However, given diesel private cars are still a new thing, people are still trying to get used to that infamous diesel engine clatter. This is when problems arise, would you pay pretty much the same money for a 4-pot petrol turbo (as is in the Discovery Sport) or an award-winning V6 bi-turbo of the BMW, not to mention is massively down on power by almost 70 hp ? Plus, I don't know whether it is true or not, but some say there are more reliability issues with the Land Rover especially in terms of the electronics. My guess is it will most likely be more expensive than the Freelander 2 and less than the Disco 4 diesel which will make sense, say in the HK$600K range.

Is traffic collision avoidance now a standard feature? To get a five star rating for safety in the US you need it as standard. What sort of reliability can I expect ? This is a critical model for Land Rover which needs to sell in large numbers to expand the company. It needs the brand on every drive to survive and compete with BMW.prices and value must be a priory in a Global contracting market place full of SUV competition. Will the 2016 defender be a competitor to this model ?

Maybe it's just the trim in the model in this video because after I posted that I looked around online a little at different photos and it's not too bad. It just came off as too round to me at first and kinda bulbous with some weird lines in some places but looking at press shots and some other photos, it's actually rather attractive. Maybe it just has to grow on me. The C7 Vette was the same way, I found it very unattractive at first announcement but now I like them quite a bit. Perhaps I'll just have to see one in person!

Nick Catelli it looks "ass-less", too flat if you see it from the side profile. Another issue is the taillight is slightly too tall, it needs to be a bit slimmer and longer towards the center to make it balanced.

While I really like the design of it, I don't like how it looks so very similar to the Evoque, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. In my opinion there is not enough of a difference between how Land Rover's cars look. It's like it's the same car scaled to different sizes.

A correction to Land Rover: the Discovery Sport is not the safest in its class, the safest compact SUV tested by EuroNCAP is the Nissan Qashqai. While most other SUVs only have the basic slip-and-grip 4WD system that's inferior to Land Rovers off-road, Jeep SUVs are just as capable in those situations. Of course, Land Rover comes with a more prestigious badge, along with higher prices. Right now, if I'm in the market for an SUV in this price range, I'd still buy the Discovery Sport, because the BMW X3 has an inferior crash test rating, Mercedes' new GLK hasn't been released (but soon will be), and the Nissan Qashqai is simply too slow.

I consider the new Land Rover design language as drawback! The Evoque was really coll car the Disco itself was cool too, same with the Defender and the RR family... Now Disko sport is actually Range Rover Sport based on Evoque. The RR Sport is also based on Evoque. So now instead very recognizable and cool design of the Evoque we have whole FACELESS FAMILY! Land rover went on the same track where Audi is and trying get out from few years - NO DISTINCTIVE DESIGN between the models - TOO BAD! And it is even worst considering the new Defender will have same "evoquish" design! :( :( :(

***** I think this is problem of the entire automotive industry nowadays. Pretty much all brands suffering of same I call it "creativity constipation" :) Once of 5 years they make some pretty damn good car - then ruing it creating a bunch of different copies called "recognisable brand design", but in my eyes it is just least resistance way of making money... At the end of this year I'll be faced in buying a new car and I definitely consider buy a late 90's car in top condition because I'm really sick of all those beeping sounds flickering lights and other shit of modern car! Damn the legislation prohibit talking on phone because get your attention of the road but lets you play with the modern infotainment system which are "attention killer" and because the manufacturers knows it they offer automatic distance control, line keeping control and so on and so on - I AM A DRIVER FOR CHRIST'S SAKE I NEED A SET OF PADDLES, GOOD MUSIC AND AIR CONDITION. the minimum is maximum for me and although I'm a huge car fan I'm really frustrated of the modern cars.

***** Well... I have degree in Marketing and I know what they are doing... but that doesn't mean I like it :) I am agree with "recognizable" but the problem I have is that they have 1 car in different sizes and the Audi is the best example for that - A8 is just A6 on steroids... A3 sedan is A4 on diet :) I'm huge Mercedes fan (although probably never buy one because they really sucks with the manual which I love) but back in the days they had 5 different classes - and each one was really something - nowadays I can even count their "classes" and I put classes in quotes because it is actually same technique in different shapes - and I'm not very much fan of that...
