Easily the BEST Land Rover Discovery Sport review I've seen yet. I don't know why all these other reviewers do a 5 minute video that doesn't even scratch the surface. Buying a car (particularly a family car) is such a huge investment. Thank you so much. I know this the car I want to get now.

That's a very good review and you're English is exceptional. Thanks for the review!
I've watched over a dozen Discovery Sport review videos in the past couple of months but yours was a great and balanced review. I also learned some new information. I agree with you Thomas that the compact SUV market is quite crowded, but Land Rover seem to have settled on a balance between on/off capability and styling/materials in relation to pricing. The Discovery Sport may not please some people but your informative review, and very excellent presentation I might add, is enjoyable to watch. My HSE is on order and is scheduled to arrive to USA in July.

jonatecu01 love to hear that, thanks m8! And have a lot of fun with your new car!
This is an excellent review - really enjoyed it and learned quite a bit. In fact, we just bought a pre-owned '17 Disco Sport HSE last night - it came with the Climate Comfort Package, Driver Assist Plus Package and the Wheel Lock Pack. It's for our 2nd home in Nevada (USA)...we live most of the year in Virginia (USA). Bought it at Land Rover Henderson...has 41.6K miles on it. This is my 5th Land Rover - I've also had a Disco 1, LR3, LR4 and currently have an Evoque for our home in Virginia. BOTTOM LINE - loving the Disco Sport - the features, ride, technology is all perfect for us as we're only going to be putting 100-150 miles on it a month.

Forced Adventure great that you are with us with a lot of reviews!
I think Land Rover have been very clever with the market positioning of the Discovery. Firstly it is now a stand-alone brand designed to be separate and distinct from Range Rover. Discovery is to be practical, adaptable, rugged, an off-roader that is good on-road. Range Rover is to be refined, plush and sophisticated, an on-reader that is good off-road. Discovery is now more distinct from the X3, Q5 and XC60, not so premium but tougher. My wife went shopping for an Evoque three years ago and came back with a Freelander for just that reason. Terrific review and would like to see you cover the Range River Sport one day.

The new ingenium engine is now in the Discovery sport. It's now in the number one spot in comparisons to the BMW X3 and Merc GLC according to both "Autocar" and "What car" motor magazines.
totally agree with Thomas, this thing should be marketed as Freelander successor instead of damaging the Discovery tag.The dealer should include a river/stream in the test route and let it do some wading and it would be more enjoyable. it would be nice to see some announcement of actual fuel consumptions at the end of the review for thirsty offroaders in future. wondering how many hours the Autogefuhl team spend on every car review, not to mention the back-of-the house team members. Thomas must have been spending hours busy climbing in & out the car to study thoroughly before the cameramen come in! btw, he got a pair of nice loose-fit pants there LOL! everytime i click on an AUtogefuhl video, i know what im expecting & i know what i'll get. keyword: consistency. Well done to the Autogefuhl Team ! Autogefuhl ~ quality assured ! it worth every second of the 38 minutes video.

Calvin So So great to hear that, those comments keep us going!! Indeed there is so much involved with every video and its just so great when you guys appreciate that. Hehe yeah these are some adventure trousers blocking wind and actually very comfortable for outdoor stuff :) About the Freelander, yeah I would probably have kept it that way indeed. Fuel consumption was about 9-10 litres for the 2.2 Diesel however there was also offroad included. I know the old petrol engine used some 12-13 litres / 100 km but now with the new ZF 9 speed that might have been improved. Looking forward to the new Ingenium Diesel how that one will perform. Will test that one in the Jaguar XE in a couple of days and will tell you guys

Hello Thomas. Nice locale for a car review! Looks like fun. I like the exterior styling of this car except for the "D I S C O V E R Y" badging (too much). As for the interior I find it underwhelming. I would take one of the competitor's models in spite of a higher price point. Seeing the engine bay so dirty was hard to take ;) You were right on with the leather seats looking several years old. Thanks for the great detailed review. Ciao ciao.

Thanks Thomas - awesome reviews as ever. Have you ever done any reviews outside of Europe, say Australia? You have quite the following here... I am in the market for mid size suv and with these enhancements I think the Disco sport looks like the winner. Will post if I take the plunge. Keep up the great reviews.
@autogefuehl

hey Brian! Not that frequently, sometimes on the motor shows like in Beijing, once in Nepal, no Australia yet :)
It seems to confuse many reviews that JLR have two models, the Evoque and Disco-Sport, in the same luxury, mid-size category. Presumably, JLR figure that people looking for sealed road dynamics (i.e. BMW X3 end of spectrum) will compare performance against the Evoque. However buyers looking for unsealed road and track (off-road) performance will compare the Discovery Sport rather than Evoque and, for example, the BMW X3 would not be considered at all for such buyers. This makes a reviewer's job more difficult when comparing the JLR offerings to the Audi/Merc/Volvo/BMW same-class SUVs.
and were do you keep the emergency weel?
Whenever I get in a modern Range Rover the first thing I notice is how uncomfortable it is on ordinary roads. The sideways roll is very noticeable. Is this less of an issue with air suspension that you mentioned others in the range have, or is this sideways roll a nature of the beast with the higher centre of gravity? Excellent video. I like your methodical style.
@autogefuehl

Wishwader thanks! Yeah I also dont like how the Range Rover Evoque behaves onroad, however the Discovery Sport is better with suspension etc. As I said it still cannot match Germany and Sweden, but it was has really improved

Wishwader I have not experienced much of the sideways roll nor the break diving in the Evoque 2013. I'd say it is rather stiff, and I mean it even without the magnetic suspention turned on. This is called the Adaptive Dynamic Suspension , and it stiffens the car even more. Maybe the LR Discovery Sport has it more, but as the author mentioned - it has way softer suspension than the Evoque's. And that must be truth, as other reviewers say it too. Thomas calls it - more comfort in there than in Evouqe. But I'd call it - more roll. So you see, get a proper Range Rover , with magnetic stiffers, and you are fine with sideways rolling.
Thanks again for this detailed review! Agree the beige seats look bad already :( So does the center console design with mate plastic, I also find the tail lights too big I was disappointed when i discovered it at Paris show

***** It was really good to check the expedition car as in these heavily used cars, you see the strong and the weak sides of the car as they cannot be re-freshed every day. So for an offroad car genrally, it performed quite well. But you have to be aware of the bright leather seats ... :) Thanks for the feedback!
Yes, 20K USD cheaper for Sorento. I also watch your review on Sorento already. Again, really good review and in very detail that I like.

Great m8. I would even buy the Sorento for the same money, so there is no question you should go for the Sorento m8.
Really good review! How does it compare to Sorento in term of interior quality? In our market, price different is over USD 20K, but DS can only get basic but get very good option at less USD 20K. Need a 7 Seat SUV, a difficult decision now...

+Philip Marshall thanks !! about led lights, that about the frame rate of the camera and the headlights, they differ - those LEDs are not flickering in real life
Why are the headlights and rear lights flashing (rotating)? Is this to do with the video speed or is it a feature of the Discovery? If so, how do you make then rotate? I own a Discovery.

Thanks for this extensive review. I am still a bit hesitant regarding electronics that are not so stable in the car. I saw reviews of customers that are not quite happy with the electrics and error messages that keep appearing. Another thing is the consumption. I am interested in the automatic 2.0 TD4 150 and I am not trusting the brochure's consumption rating of 5,3 l/100km. Can you convince me otherwise?

***** Yes, I just watched it. With a new face, it is a Journey. As you have seen, the quality is lacking (typical of a cheap American vehicle). The only bright spot of the vehicle is the 213mm infotainment system. This is used across the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep line-up and is very clean and thought out well. If I were running the show at FCA, I'd push all of the "supposed" SUV's to Dodge and keep Jeep true to real SUV's.

gbriank1 great that u directly watched it. Indeed the quality is lacking atm with Fiat. Just the price that is attractive.

Woah, interior looked super old, like 2005 Discovery!
Good review ! - the car has nice exterior although JLR appear to be reducing the differentiator between the Range Rover and Land Rover brands by using the design language from the Evoque on this car. What surprises me is how ordinary the interior design is - the centre console carrying the climate controls and media screen looks 5 years old already and seems to have neither the style of a Range Rover or the functional/tough look you would expect from a Land Rover product. All the reviews I have read and watched including yours say the car is OK but recommend customers wait for the new engines - not really what you would expect of a new model ! Overall, it gives the impression of car that was designed on a (tight) budget. Styling is derivative, interior is dull and the engines are old - personally, I don't see anything that would compel me too consider the car other than the brand itself.

The use of very poor implementation of GPS on a vehicle that was supposed to navigate off road is laughable . Says a lot about the decisions and cuts that were made , for price point maybe. They should of implemented Google Earth view mode for off road , navigation with waypoints ,etc. Almost looks like a Ford Edge in appearance. Just an Okay vehicle trying to live on a Name for Off road . I appreciate the review Thanks Joe

TechExplorer Thanks Joe! Yeah the usual GPS is just set up for normal road driving, however most people wont go offroad with that one. As I mentioned, I also recommend using a full size offroad for the long offroad trips :)
I love this car. I do find it a little bit bland. Which is not to say "boring," but at the same time not terribly exciting. It can look very cool though, especially with Black Wheels, in a Dark Grey or Black Exterior Paint Color.
Hey, Thomas is still 1.86, in three years or so ye will be 1.88.:)
freelander exterior was slightly boring like this car's interior . the Name discovery "Sport "and exterior don't work . nevertheless a good SUV .freelander 2 was great.

love the range rover, i love the rang rover evoque, but this car.... It has the wrong styling, too soft, too much rounded , it doesnt look like a robust , hard working machine, now it looks like every other car in the segment... I was thinking the same, it's way off. Ford may have incorporated early discovery concept designs to the Explorer when they owned Land Rover and I think in an attempt to keep an originality land rover came up with this. The explorer looks more like a Land Rover vehicle than it does a ford. This on the other hand...
The old 2.2 Ford engines are good but avoid the 2.0 JLR engines like The Plague. As with most JLR engines, they have an inherent design fault. This one is wrt the DPF position. It is too far from the engine. Continued short journeys causes the filter to clog and the engine will destroy itself. I owned an XF, 2.7 and it happened to mine even though I drove 40-100 miles every day. Shocking design with absolutely NO accountability. JLR will just laugh at you. 👎👎
Why are all still buying Landrovers... knowing, this car is so unreliable.. check KZread for Disovery SP Problems.. it's a shame.
Unfortunately, I am seriously disappointed with this vehicle. The build quality is amazingly bad and looks very cheap. I've been driving this vehicle for three years now, I've bought it again and I'm constantly experiencing problems that in short are as follows: the interior panel knocks, rattles and creaks the entire interior, the panel is extremely badly clipped. Kofferaumverkleidung velvet handle suddenly in hands, front fender not properly engaged, error messages on the conveyor belt of the Lamdasonde - thereby unannounced loss of power - fire dangerous !!!, continues with water entering the rear lights right, the xenon flickers unmotivated and irregular, the Navi sets exactly if you need it, etc. etc. All in all, I could at the price of such a desolate, misconstructed, quite cheap and overpriced (58,000 euros!) Land Rover equal to three Dacia Duster with the luxury equipment to buy. I will certainly not repeat such a mistake!
