Great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it guys. I just installed this exact shifter in a 2017 GT following your instructions in this video. For anyone watching this how to video, you do not need to unbolt the driveshaft from the transmission but definitely remove the driveshaft arrier bearing mount and lower the transmission to gain the proper access. This is not that difficult of a job I performed the work on my garage floor. The shifter is a major improvement over the stock unit. I have not missed a shift yet under any engine load and the throws are much improved. 2 thumbs up Steeda

this video was well done but as soon as he got underneath the car and started removing exhaust drive shaft and tranny I was like he'll no. I ain't touching all that lol. I still finished the video tho haha

Wow i miss the good old days of sitting in the car and finishing the whole job and now i might want to take it to the shop lol. But i do prefer these new mustangs rather than the old slow ones haha.

I would say if your going to do this modification, add some other fun things to do with it. Like a new exhaust or new shifter ball and a new shift boot

is it just me or is this well done install video freaking ridiculous. I mean come on drop the full exhaust and drive shaft and partial tranny drop. all for a 30 reduced throw. I'm all for shorter throws but damn. felt like I was doing a motor swap.

I got the mgw shifter. It's the best one you can get for s550 in my opinion.

Omg...when I did my short throw shifter in my fox and and sn95 it was SO easy compared to this. Jeez!!!!

I'm curious, what happens if you don't line the drive shaft up the same?

I’m thinking I can do this on jack stands, can anyone that has done this confirm if it can be done .I have a good set of tools and know my way around the car for a weekend mechanic

Bill, can the Tri Ax shifter be used with a Blowfish bracket?

I have not tried so I cannot say for sure but based on the design of it I think it could work.

I had a Fiesta ST before and thought the short throw shifter turned it into a totally different car. It was such an easy and quick install and I expected the same from my stang but hell naaah I'm not going through all of this for a little shifter. Rather replace the whole gearbox while I'm at it

Good luck swapping to a tremec that looks like it has its own complexities

I did a track day with my S550 2015 model and now the gear shifter has at least 4" of sloppy looseness in and out of gear most of the time (it sometimes firms up while driving momentarily but then loosens back up), and the stick grinds/makes momentary chewing noises when moving into a gear position especially 2 3 and 4 sometimes. Would installing these parts fix these issues in addition to the performance and strength benefits?

@Its Hugby currently selling the car, never installed any shifter on the transmission. I did however put the BG mT82 transmission fluid in it and it certainly helped reduce the grinding issues and now it only grinds and locks out sometimes

Man that repetitive guitar riff was mind numbing.

What do you say about Tri ax vs Barton?

Both do a really good job, I chose the Barton because I liked the option to mount to the transmission instead of the body.

Bill how about a video of driving after install. I keep reading lots of heat and added noise are the two biggest complaints.

That was a customers car so I no longer have access but we can do that in the future. A more solid shifter can transmit a little more noise but it shouldn't be bad.

PP mustang gt or base model GT? Is the PP worth it? Hard to find one in my area 🙀

I'm starting with the PP2 - the wish list is much shorter, and gets serious more quickly. 😁

This seems like the best way to do any mods to the shifter.. This isn't something I want to do in a driveway.. YOU need a lift along with tall jack stands for trans.. and there's no way my fat hands are going to work around that exhaust...

So why does the stock shifter hurt the reliability of the MT-82?

Not to bring an old comment back to life.. but this shifter still has the same problem the stock one did.. it locks out of shifts at high rpm due to flex as the trans moves down in the back but tail shaft of the shifter is mounted to the body and doesn’t move.. causing the linkage to bind up.

mu0325 u made me get a gt now... haha jk, but i did trade it in for 17 gt, any parts to save weight.on the gt thats what am concentrating.on this year.

Do they make a shifter that looks like that for automatics?

You accidentally messed up the O-ring and it came un done you didn’t notice and still installed it

If you do not want to get screwed I highly recommend not ordering anything from CJ pony parts try to send a part back they wanted to charge me $100

Might as buy a new car at this point
