2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee First Drive Off-Road Review: Jeep week video # 4
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of a handful of vehicles that is truly off-road worthy. For 2014 there are now a total of 5 different Jeep Grand Cherokee models with 4 engine choices. In this exclusive TFLcar first drive review we take the brand new diesel Grand Cherokee off-road to see how the massive amounts of diesel engine torque really work when the road disappears. Is the new and refreshed Jeep Grand Cherokee worth the premium price that the new Summit model now demands? That's a question that Roman and Nathan try to answer as they drive through the hills of Texas.

LOVING these long reviews guys!
We asked the Jeep engineers about the Moose test and they said that the Swedish testers overloaded the Jeep. FYI: They claim it wasn't a fair test.
Great job as usual, guys. Keep up the great work!
These two guys are great. Nice review of the new Grand Cherokee. Good to see the fuel economy efforts by Jeep.
My '11 GC does off road very well. I'm in Canada so it's perfect for snow and towing a horse trailer too.
Yes August 2013 refreshed Front and Rear, with the same Interior upgrades and 8 spd from the Cherokee
I buy used! 4.0 liter inline six baby. I love the purr of the inline six too.
Yes, paired with the new 8-speed, it's noticeably faster and the power band is more pronounced. All while getting better mpg. Thanks for watching!
that interior quality looks phenomenal too
The last generation we had did fine in the snow and had no issues on dirt/gravel back roads.
Another great video guys
Best review good job
I wish you guys would show the front and rear wheel during spin so we can see how the transmission grips when different wheels slip.
The only thing it needs is a sway bar disconnection for more articulation.
Yes, it's a BIG vehicle now, may ZJ looks small compared to the new one and to the Sequia, etc. With the Hemi the new one certainly has plenty of power and off road capability too with all that new stuff that really does work
Great video!
Very cool video. I'd love to have job like you guys have.
Really like the new Grand Cherokee's. Would buy if I had the money. They are the most capable vehicles around and if they had all terrain tires it would be even better.
As always...greet job guys!
Looks like K2 off road park. Nice video!
Thks. This was a good one. Well done.
Appreciated the subtle upgrades on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Overland, this makes it a hole lot more like the Range Rover [Evoque] a brand in a league of its own in off-roaders 4x4's...!!
The brake lock differential does a pretty good job, it just doesn't look that good because it has to allow some slip before it can work as it's a retroactive system.
Do all 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee's come with the daytime LED lights that outline the front headlights?

+Se2018 No.
Great review guys. I am considering the 3.6L GC. Have you guys noticed a difference in acceleration with the new 8 speed?
How about a Toyota 4runner vs Jeep GC
If I could afford it I would probably consider getting one of these. The light off roading that they done in this video is probably the hardest I would do. Well I'm maybe a creek bed or 2 but that probably wouldn't be any harder. I seen another video that makes me think it would be good enough in the snow for where I live and I kinda like the idea of the combination of pulling ability and fuel economy of a diesel. Seems to me like a jack of all trades. I think that would suit my needs/desires good enough. I really don't need something that's extremely specialized. In Kentucky we have what I call baby or little mountains and I doubt I will need to pull anything super heavy. If I was gonna pull real heavy stuff up in the big mountains out west I would be looking for a big truck. But I don't think I will be.
Love this car.
would have hoped you guys could take us through the many variants of the Grand Cherokee
Can't help it but this new Front-End is just ..., i don't know what. Really liked the 2013 style. And now the 2014 "small" Cherokee. Anyways. Great Video guys !!
Your music sounds very AC/DC inspired. I'm a big fan of AC/DC and a big fan of your videos.
its looks so cozzy...
Yes I did they were not quite clear on the pricing. The GC limited in 4wd Diesel will start at 45k. About 3k more than the X3 the way I want it optioned. BMW is talking about a Diesel 4 also. So that may stat at 45k. I love them both for different reasons.
No, my ZJ has 133,000 miles with ORIGINAL transmission, i do change the fluid and filter once a yr regardless of mileage and the 5.2 runs like a fine swiss watch and doesn't burn a drop of oil-- I have had it for a while and knew previous owner kept it up though it needed some work when i bought it-- i Did replace the transfer case, i went with the 247 by suggestion and i was told the 249/full time is tougher on the front end parts, i have never got stuck with the 247 so it's good enough
if id live somewhere in the outback or desert id probably go for a jeep. but honestly 99% i drive ON ROAD .which makes such a decision hard for me to pick one oh these. i owned a wrangler years back and it was not really fun on regular streets for longer trips.it never ran straight line and the hydraulic steering was way too sensivite for my likings. my dad owned a 86 cheerokee 4.0 limited. the seats were just back hurting after a while.but offroad these guys are top notch.
good jeep grand cherokee i love
Here in Australia the Overland costs around about $70,000.
I build the parts herein Adrian, mi for the grand Cherokee and dodge Durango. Nice vehicles
Y'all forgot cross shopping with the gx460. The lexus is $50000 and great off road. Great videos.
i love it .. nice car
daytime headlights are standard in canada for a number of years there not in the US a lot of states require your full headlight system in on when raining .
I just bought a 2015 Overland with everything. I'm one of the 1% that goes off road. I traded my 10 year old LR3 Land Rover in on the Jeep. I can't count the number of times people stopped me and asked me if it really was a Land Rover. That's what I bought it for and that's what I got the Jeep for. Something that will go if and when the SHTF. The only thing I miss about me Rover is the cargo space. I've already had the Jeep off road and it will do anything they advertise.
I am the BMW x3 (awesome on road). GC Diesel awesome off road with excellent mileage. I priced the X3 at 42k. I am not positive how much the Diesel is yet.
The older generation Grand Cherokees, I see them lifted and Knobbied out all the time out here where I live (Vernal, Utah) and we see them in Moab like that a lot. It's this newer generation of Grand Cherokees that have really given up the hard core off road use... so your right. This is Jeep Evolution in the wrong direction. However I did see a lifted Jeep Compass today, with over sized BFG AT's and a brush guard. Pointing and laughing did happen.
I never really paid attention to the slanted roof. And i guess it's one way to save fuel or to help cut down on drag. The grand cherokee doesn't have a lot of drag i don't think. But your also right i have notice the prius roof is more slanted. And same here the 2010 Jeep SRT8 was just more mean it had something to it. Remember in 2011 the new Jeep SRT8 added 50 more horse HP. Love the Jeep SRT8 well now it's being called SRT
I've failed to mention the score of any Land Rovers but that's because I couldn't find any data on the newer models but they are all above 500, probably a lot more, the LR3 had a score of 520 but the new RR can disengage it's sway bars so I wouldn't be surprised if it was close to 700 like the older models.
so what car do you think is capable off road, because I am planning to buy a good 4WD. thanks
1:49 -1:55 Led Light Flickering, looks like these models come equipped with electrical gremlins just like all previous Jeeps.
what a machine
i can't wait, this is genius
Yea Remember the Motor trend Viper GTS vs Zr1 comparo? the Viper GTS Starts at 120k but because of the Full Leather Options and then the Premium Stryker Red paint job. it shoots the price to 140K
In USA, you can't get the off road pack with the ML diesel, I think that pretty much says what MB think customers buy MLs for.
I think our group should do a proper test on this Jeep LOL
Guys! the ford expedition has that auto leveling suspition, and the reclining rear seat since 1997~!!!
I'm pretty sure Roman will do one later on, since this event was setup by Jeep alone.
You should redo the grand Cherokee eco diesel on gold mine hill again
I have 2014 Jeep diesel with ex filter problems dealer tried twice to fix but can not diesel is good and bad was told that recall is coming diesel soon
ohhhh gudness, gracious me!!!! i loove dat red elephant..
I was talking about the Land Cruisers (V8 and Prado) and Lexus (LX and GX), don't know about the rest.
WHAT!!! This is as much Off Road as you will EVER get! Doesnt matter if its not Colorado. How many SUVs will tackle a 50 degree hill climb and descent...how many. To me Jeep is as rugged and beautiful as any SUV can be. People are soo in love with Land Rover. One thing they dont mention is its dismal reliability along with just about every other German brand. I went shopping for several Mercedes and BMW models recently and was like WOW so cheap for a low mileage 5yr old car...then i looked at the CarFax and it read like a biography of service calls after service calls of $1000 plus repairs of every failure imaginable. And this is with low mileage less than 45k. Sure Jeep has its problems but minuscule in nature compared to German brands. I have a 2013 Dodge Ram with 27k and happy to report the ONLY issue I have is a faulty door lock that only locks the driver side only on most occasions. I will have that serviced soon. This is the ONLY issue in 3yrs. I love the way this truck drives down the highway and light offroad. Its a confident feeling truck.

Very hardy SUV and reliable !! I have a request if you are in contact with representatives of a Jeep, then tell them for Russia they made the most reliable jeep! There is one Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2013 with a 3.6 engine, it has a mileage of almost 800,000 thousand kilometers or 497,096,954 thousand miles !! Not a problem except a broken gearbox !!
Great facelift
I like this car
To me, 2011~13 GC's have the best balance of Jeep capability, great design, and reasonable pricing. (If they had diesel available, 11~13 model selections would have been a perfect selection!) Pre-2011 models (especially interior) lacks in design. The new 2014 models went little too far with "European" look, and same goes for pricing. Keep it American, Keep it Jeep.
you guys should be on Top Gear USA
jeep grand cherokee ........ najbolji na svijetu.
Can it compete offroadwise with the solid axle GC?
That suv is amazing!!!!!! I would pick the dodge Durango tho because it looks better buut I give the Jeep props because I dont know an suv today that could go up and down those hills that easy.
I'd get a used ML320 OR a ML350 and be very happy. I have driven a 350 and its fast and great interior
How hard is it and how do you take the lower front clip off?
could you guys please do the ford f150 svt raptor roush vs the land cruiser 5.7L xtreme edition? i would love to see your opinions about each and which is the best. and 0-60s. thanks :)
They already announced the 1500 Ram Diesel. power figures havent been announced though. they are considering a Diesel Wrangler for Next Gen. but for right now, its GC and Ram.
3what is the difference from rock climbing as against steep concrete?
True. But i rather buy the base model laredo and still get heated leather seats, sat nav and back up camera. I love the X5M i would like to buy one in the future
You got it wrong, it's true that the Discovery and Range Rovers have a lot of electronics but they do come with proper locking diffs (center and optional rear) only that the computer decides when to lock or unlock them, it doesn't have to wait for traction control to slow down a wheel to work at the same speed.
in 2008 they put the diesel in the north edition thats like the base model and that was a trail no the diesel is sticking around
Considering buying a 2013 Limited over one of these new ones. Wouldve been alright if they remained with the newly aggressive-looking generation they just came out with but the scrunched headlamps, and huge round tail lamps look a bit odd, along with the strange wheel options until you pay over 40k for an overland. Instrument cluster seems a bit bizarre looking too. Oh well, still looking forward to my purchase of a 2013 and switching my FORD power ways to some JEEP luxury:)
I wish Jeep would let me take my 02' Grand Cherokee on the same trail, and see how it really compares to these.
Our local CarPro radio guy said the Liberty will go away and become a Cherokee (v Grand Cherokee) , I think in 2015
im good with my current diesel gunna wait for a half ton pickup to be diesel
The srt is my fave grand Cherokee by far but the summit is definitely my next choice
roman and nathan, i love your show its great ! Ive noticed that you guys frequently complain about the size of back seats in cars which is understandable because you're pretty big guys. I'm a big guy too and I don't find a lot of the cars you guys say have small back seats to be that bad. If you're looking for a family car with a big back seat, sedan or SUV, what would you guys suggest?
Hey, Nathan! I got a quick question for you! Although I won't be lucky enough to own one of these, being broke (Despite the '85 El Camino in my garage), I do have one little thing about the Jeep that I was wondering, something I think is the most important thing to check before you purchase a vehicle. Was it -fun- to drive?
No, I've just been watching that show.
Exactly what I and just about everyone who would probably buy this thing for its offroad potential were wondering. How many MPG for the 4x4?
lol "doomsday" and "bug out location" ! Roman must secretly be a Doomsday Prepper =)
Although it doesn't show that much they did change a lot under the body of the 2014.
its good to know that im not the only one
@ 10:20 --> The X5 isn't intended for off-road use. BMW even goes so far to label the X5 as a SAV vehicle (Sport Activity Vehicle), rather than calling it a traditional SUV or just another CUV.
I have 2.4 Tigershark 4 cyl
In the beginning of the video it shows advertisement of other vehicleswitch makes that video less ableto be used.At 5:02 He gasps for air when he hears the price of the vehicle, as if the price was sufficating. The prices are now lower for the Jeeps than they were 7 months ago when this video was uploaded, if these guys are correct.
I prefer the 2011 look for the grand cherokee, even the nissian pathfinder was turned into a cross over. I don't understand why nissian did that. And the explorer is more suited for a around town kind of suv/cuv but i still like it.
you can get it for about 40K. they just have it optioned with the Top model Grand Cherokee (Summit)
Its 62 Grand starting, It get expensive now because they now offer Other Leathers other than "Nappa" and Leather Colors other than "Black".
Not with the 6 cylinder, it's very close for acceleration vs the 5.2 but the Hemi is a different story naturally-- yes gas mileage is better than the 5.2 as is handling but styling is in the eye of the beholder, I just want to spend 40 grand for a winter vehicle and I like projects
Did Jeep take you to the Hidden Falls Off Road Park near Marble Falls?
They are not kidding about pulling sales from BMW and Audi. One of my cousins has a Infinity and a Audi they just purchased a Grand Cherokee. Another one of my cousins is an Audi driver he is looking at the Grand Cherokee also. I am planing on the X3 but I am now eyeing the GC also.
What is the 0-60 Time for the diseal?
Great vehicle. For the money it is the best! Just get the JEEP. If you don't like it, trade it in.
Yeah I saw that video, it was a pretty poor demonstration of the RR's capabilities, they didn't use low range, terrain response, and as you probably saw they just pointed it to the sand dune and did a "Clarkson".....actually I do remember at a point they say they used sport mode but I'm pretty sure that low range would be a lot more effective.
whats with the flickering on the led headlights?
