I dont think that the Porsche was in the Sport Mode in this test
I've seen 4.7 0-60 on the new 2012 Jeep. The 2012 SRT8's look so nice and sound amazing, just listen to that 6.4L purr
A small note..the STR8 is not recommended to go off road and does not have the jeep drive train to do so and the Cayenne Turbo still does.

winsto22 yeah for only an additional 40-70k for that I’d buy an overland diesel and an SRT8 👍🏽👌🏽
The cayenne turbo is a monster in all aspects. But I have to say the SRT-8 sounds awesome.
I'm not too big of a fan of the rear-end of the Cayenne, but it's definitely grown on me. I think the front end of it is absolutely stunning! Just my opinion though. I agree with you on the cheap SUV, and a GTR to go along with it, but I want my family to look nice in a nice car. That may sound a bit snooty, but it's like getting a G-wagon for the family. It does what it needs to and more. Another thing, I would really recommend test-driving a cayenne Turbo. It's so magical!
The SRT8 sounds BRUTAL when taking off, especially those mid-shift snorts.
thanks for the sound !!!
Love this comparison
@Ben3220 Yeah guess I can see your point, to me the Jeep is one of those vehicles that is so flawless stock that I dont know if I would do any mods!
as an m3 owner id take the srt8. that hemi sounds so sick when cruising around. almost as good as my modular mustang.
While I love the new Jeep Grand Cherokee (purchasing one THIS WEEK), I think the Porsche is better overall, except on Price. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo manages to have Awesome Onroad performance while Retaining some decent Offroad capability. The Jeep SRT8 losses all of the offroad ability in that platform. For this reason along with the slightly better track numbers, the Porsche clearly wins (if money is no option). But the Hemi sure does sound NICE.
i've been waiting for this comparison forever. i know the cayenne is faster, but I still love the jeep no matter
Thank you Inside Line for not putting music, or talking over the video this time. This is what we want to hear, roaring engines!
what are the breaks on the posch? and was is with ptm , pdcc , ptv ?
@Bergy427 I was thinking the same thing but it seems where Inside Line does their testing looks brutally hot. That could play into the slightly different numbers. The German competitors are awesome but the Jeep is such a good value.
love that sound comin from the jeep
is there a 0-60 difference between the motor trend version and the IL version, which is the SRT8?
@allcarguy Yeah that's right. @Motortrend the jeep was clocked 4.6 sec to 60 and stoped from 60-0 in 107 feet i think.
YES the Jeep has Sport mode...
@onoff314 your right, they should have a comparison test with vehicles of its same price range at least like the x5m or x6m, or the 2012 merc ml63
It's cool to see an SUV that can keep up with a Countach!
whats the price difference? you guys should include that in your videos. (i realize pricing is different in countries and cities but it gives a rough estimate)
how'd you get the porsche to be so slow?
what the hell is the gurgle from the srt8 exhaust note in the pull from :14-:22???
@USConnexion isnt the jeep already supercharged?
that jeep sounds killa!! no dought about that.
@grannigrann im not so sure. id agree about the 2010 cherokee but with the improved interior of the new one and the german engineered chasis from mercedes, its getting closer to the cayenne. plus, with the $40,000 savings vs. the cayenne, you can buy an actual sports car for weekends
@ShartCannon Becuase I would gues that they are both top of the line?
That Cherokee shifted like a manual, way too much time between shifts. My 2012 doesn't take that long to shift. It's instant .
Both of them good and power..but jeep is more economical and more stronger in the montage and snow...i like it
when i see a cayenne turbo...im like "oh cool!" ...but when i see a jeep srt8 im like "omfg look at that"
@Nightakula It's not just the performance advantage. It's the EVERYTHING advantage.
those dual exhausts made the srt8 what it is...im gonnna miss em
What does 1-foot rollout mean?
Yeah that's all right..., but I've seen the cayenne do things very few cars can, like you can open the door when on a slope sideways without the cayenne flipping over. That just demonstrates how well balanced the car is.
@bdivy1 C&D September issue has the Jeep running 104mph. The numbers are so inconsistent between each test. When talking about performance, there needs to be a range set of what is possible. The Jeep did nicely considering the large MSRP discrepancy.
@Kemfii That was the case with the old jeep srt which was only a street ride, the new ones do all that off road shit too.
Old jeep str8 is gold
@ACCHRM If you saw the previous SRT-8 GC, you might have your opinion on it's design. I think it looks better than the current model. I think they changed it because you couldn't tow with the last one, but that was just because the exhaust was where the hitch would go. :P
are these cars near the same price?
@InsideLineVideo like everyone says, why are you getting such different number on the SRT8 than motortrend is?
Good review. Jeep did real well only $50,000 different between the vehicles
wow, u need to understand that price range is not a valid reason at all to completely dismiss this comparison. both of them are hyper SUV's, both are very powerful, both produce similar stats, and both compete against each other in this market. this is a good comparison
That must be the busies rail line in the world adjacent to the test track. Without fail, there's always a train passing by in these test videos.
InsideLine should have put an X5 M and the ML 63 AMG in there too..That jeep sounds nice and it's probably less than half of the Cayenne too.
0.94g on the skidpad? That's awesome!
@nforspeed91 well they both get most of the parts basically from the same parts bin but the rear ends do look a lot alike.
I must admit, I'm not upset that the new Jeep SRT 8, is slower than my 2008.
@onoff314 I agree but that's like saying you can't compare a cts-v with a m5 because of the price difference eventhough the performance, dimensions are similar. True people considering a cayenne turbo are not going to look at a jeep srt8 but they are still super suv so I found it was an interesting comparison nonetheless.
Very well done jeep considering the price difference !
where is the x5m?
A drag race would be nice you know..
Sports car figures... Very nice.
damn that Grand Cherokee sounds good
The 6.4l hemi wakes up big time with miles, you'd be surprised. The competition pulls very hard up top as you see with significantly higher 1/4 mi trap speeds but off the line in the real world, while the x5m or cayenne t are spooling up, you're gone, the jeep jumps instantly. Thats my experience anyway, also a vid is on KZread of a ''12 gc srt8 vs a hammann x6 m, very interesting outcome
love srt engine sound
I think they're both badass.
I'll take the first gen SRT8's looks please and thank you
Commentary wasn't in the budget.
Im sold, cant wait til the srt8 is here, im buying ( hum but which one)
driven both of them because im a valet. Im from Detroit and love German cars but the Jeep is the way to, put a vortec in the engine and do some mods and youll be good. considering theres a $40k difference and thats not with options...
@onoff314 how are they not...both 60k+ sport performance suvs
@dannya108 who's gonna go off roading with an SRT 8 or Cayenne turbo??
@ggdeibiza Could be. The Porsche is most likely softer and rides better, hence slower slalom speed. Skidpad is a different story because that's where it's electronic differentials and computers come into play.
didnt one of the car mags get 0-60 for the old Jeep SRT8 in 4.2 sec or something crazy like that?
@Ben3220 Why would you want to make this vehicle any faster? I would take the left over money and but a secondary car. Lol you could actually buy a Charger SRT8 and the Jeep SRT8 for the same price.
@onoff314 incorrect, read anything about the jeeps competitors, they are in fact in the same market
To everyone stating that Inside Line gets shitty track numbers, the SRT8 is an auto. And its a 5 speed at that. I garuntee they wanted to get the vehicle to accelerate to it's maximum potential. I am not too sure of the numbers myself, but it could be true. I havent looked up the specs but the weight may have increased enough to warrant such numbers.
i like both but I would take the Jeep. Its more for the money and it sound's better.
@rs2p00nz I know right? A couple of years ago that was Porsche CAR Numbers.
@xtremjeepn yeeaaa the porshe can go offroad with sport slick tires
@AlternativeUses it is also more luxurious and the ride is a lot smoother and drives itself better... and it is more reliable :)
and also the Cayenne is awesome
Now, where is the X6 M in this comparison. I'd love to see how it stacks up
@Nightakula Performance advantage perhaps no. But being able to have that performance advantage while bieng the most luxurious and one of the most comfortable SUV on the market makes it worth considering.
Love all the comments about the Jeep Offroad. The SRT8 is not an Offroad capable Jeep. Jeep had to give up that ability to make it perform, and towing capacity. The Porsche can still go Offroad and tow about 8000lbs.
Damm those are some BAD A S S MOTHER F%^KIN SUV's
@AlternativeUses isnt that how comparisons between import and domestics usually go? lol
@bdivy1 insideline test track is elevated 1200ft above sea level. that is y
How many people are really going in to be the most treacherous of storms to the point where the Cayenne won't be able to hang. The jeep is a dope car too but the cayenne is better.
love SRT8!
@Kemfii I think the ML63 looks like a soccer mom car as well. Most European SUVs have that same compact look that I'm not a fan of. I respect your opinion, but think the ML63 is the last of the three. I'd place it 5th under the X5 M and even a Q7S. Furthermore, I don't get why everyone keeps bragging about "holding it's own off-road." You've got to be insane to take any of these cars off the pavement. I still love the Jeep. It's the most beautiful one in it's class.
new srt stops awesome too bad it only traps 101. My flashed TBSS traps 103 (2wd)
I EXPECTED THE SRT 8 to be faster than that! whats the price for either one??
@MarkMVideos Not to mention 0.88g's and stopping 0-60 in 106ft
MotorTrend has the Jeep running 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and stopping 60-0 in 106ft y the big diff?
you forgot to add the cost difference between the two. its in the range of 30 -40 grand extra to get the porsche
Jeep SRT did pretty good. All you need are Bilsteins and about 80-100hp and you will have Porsche Cayennes sweating at the light.
@legendaryspartan92 I figure it's got at least that much power from the crank... i've never heard of car manufacturers OVER-rating their engines, i usually hear of them under-rating their engines for insurance purposes.. it was like that during the muscle car era for sure
@alessandrozerbone No They Can't At Least Not In SRT-8 Trim. Jeep Said The Wanted The SRT-8 To Be A Street/Track Focused SUV So The Ditched All The Off Road Stuff, You Can Even Look It Up On Their Website
Interresting... the Jeep has less grip, and yet still pulls a faster slalom?
Nice comparison, but if you really need utility + performance driving, then an M5 Touring or E63 AMG Estate would be better than either of these.
It's twin turbo'd already. Imagine the Cayenne with a 6.4L engine with the pre-existing turbos!! It'd be the fastest SUV out there, if it already isn't!
@edawg305 yup!!
@Nightakula yes, it worth, I've been in both and when you are in the cayenne, the quality of ensemble and materials in general say, hello I'm German I'm a Porsche, and no body will deny it, but both worth the purchase, they have their own charisma, you can feel the american muscle DNA in the Cherokee, but the race car DNA in the Cayenne, both are amazing :)
y u no X5 M?
Why is it that inside line's track test numbers always seem to be worse than what everyone else says?
@Anthonyocity Motortrend tends to get a bit optimistic when testing American cars. Still at the end of the day the only choice is the SRT8. $55,000 vs $120,000+
The best at what exactly?
There are two different buyers. Porsche is full of technology, very high quality materials, handles, built to last. The Jeep is obviously the cheaper side of it. The Cayenne is actually out selling its competition
