The best "first test" video I've ever seen Motor Trend produce. Bravo.
that was a perfectly done test MotorTrend, good job! let's see more just like this. great presenter.
I love my 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT
Finally a motor trend video worth watching
we have one of these at my car dealership were i work i took it around the block and it is amazing to have such a big vehichle move around that fast i wasnt very confident going around the first corner but after that i relized this handled very nimble body roll was very small for a suv it felt like i was defying the laws of physics my favorite domestic sports suv hands down
that´s right ;) and it might not rool over because it´s lower but I would like to know if the srt has the same problems with the tires
106 feet from 60 to 0?! My God, this is insane and unbelievable for such a big and heavy car! Fantastic car and a really interesting alternative for Touareg/Cayenne and X5.
@joey187 I see your point but you meant to say "naturally aspirated" not "stock" because they are stock since that's how they leave the factory. Naturally aspirated means it uses no forced induction (a.k.a. turbochargers or superchargers).
Amazing soundtrack! Anywhere I can get these tunes for my iPod? Oh, and sweet Jeep!
Time for an SRT8 GC vs X5M comperison. I really do love this new version of the SRT Cherokee. Awesome vehicle, and it just sounds awesome.
@bttawfiq that test was done in 40 degree weather. there fore produced amazing numbers. both the cayenne and x5m ran 4.0 flat to 60. no other tester recorded those numbers for either of them . the old grand cherokee in this warm weather would produce the same exact 0-60 time.
@Olawz While the Jeep GC SRT8 is strictly designed for raw performance on the road. They do make off road versions with upgraded suspension. I have a 1st Gen GC with the 5.2L V8, modified suspension and tires. It does wonders when I go off roading (non-competitive). Been around the Cascades, Glacier Nat. Park and Yosemite without problems. When I take the off road tires off and put the stock ones back on, I can tow a 2 ton trailer with hardly any fuss.
this is my favorite suv
@AGC828 Yea it is pretty much an urban cruiser. The SRT-8 has the same 4X4 system in the standard Cherokee, but with the bigger (and slicker) tires, lower ride height, and the body kit, I am pretty sure you will get stuck pretty quickly...
What was the lap time at Big Willow? How does the time compare to other high performance SUVs?
@WelcomeToCarnate ... I looked at multiple engine weight charts, and the numbers were pretty consistent: 685 pounds for the Z06 V8 and 468 pounds for the M3 V8. Where are YOU getting your numbers?
@danraich Thats good to hear, we bought a 2008 Saturn Outlook and it wasn't as well made as a lot of the european cars at the time anyway, but i will defiantly look at the Jeep SRT8, thanks.
Thank you motortrend for driving the the vehicle properly and not like.. Insideline for example. Beautiful jeep. Good numbers
At last i saw the first ever test that motortrend did it in the jeep srt8 . Please motortrend can you do a comparison between wk1 and wk2 thanks alot
Sweet-ass Jeep and those brakes are impressive to say the least. 4.6 0-60 is damn quick. Very nice ride and less than half the price of the Cayenne Turbo - unbeatable combination.
Nice video, I actually have a 06' SRT8 and I love it, if you can deal with a gas guzzler and you like sports cars but need the space then this is the right SUV.
seriously awesome car!
@sullyFL our tech school(Chrysler Training Center} has said otherwise. they said the suspension pieces are closely related but do not swap. the dash and a couple of other things are similar but that is because diamler was behind on the ML refresh. daimler did not design any new items on the 2011s. can't get any clearer than that. we are sent to training every year and especially when there are new models or updates. they made it a point that diamler has no input on our designs now.
Motortrend, you didn't run at Streets of Willow like your description says. Hell, even in the video they say they're running the regular Willow Springs main track (and you can see they pass the Willow Springs box at the top of the hill.
@emantabrizi The LS7 in the Z06 weighs somewhere around 450lbs, which is in the same neighborhood as the M3's S65. Even the heaviest of the LS engines, the iron-block monster LSX, edges out the S65 by "only" about 150lbs, give or take. Where are you getting your numbers from?
I own a 2016 GC SRT. I love the package and the bang for the buck you get at this price point. I drive mine in mix driving daily. My problem with the SRT is the brake dust front and rear. I just recently went over 20,000 miles and it needs front pads and rotors. The cost $1455. This concerns me. The dealer has the rotors in stock but the pads won’t be in stock until the end of November nationwide. Shocking. FIAT-Chrysler unacceptable!
@lawsonmahoney Mopar did put the 6.4 in the Wrangler, they call it the Mopar Renegade Wrangler. There are vids on KZread about it.
For someone who wants a Cayenne but also wants to buy American, this is it. Jeep should be very proud of this latest offering. The performance is undeniably impressive.
Who knows where to get this soundtrack? I love that music at the beginning.
In a class of its own. Chevy dumb as hell for killing the ss blazer

@emantabrizi but the porsche cayenne was a porsche cayenne turbo and was $107,000 (not including tax) while the jeep was $48,000 (not including tax)
What a beast. Very little body roll.
That HEMI sounds AMAZING
@Seventh7Art ...the regular grand cherokee is a 4x4...this is an awd...
@Seventh7Art Do you know what SRT stands for? Street and racing technology. So I thinks its safe to say that this car should be tested on a track.
Last gen's wheels would look AMAZING on this!
@walt3223. Awesome points but...... you have to throw in fun factor as well. Some cars and vehicles are just for the enthusiasts.
DAMN! I'm so glad I DID NOT see this video before purchasing my 2012 JGC Overland 4x4 V8 (which I Love)! That SRT8 looks GREAT. My Overland is awesome overall but... 6.4 Liters of Pure Raw POWER in the SRT8... DAAMMMMNNNNNN!
man, i saw this at my store the other day, and i couldn't stay away from it, at least until the owner came back out. me hand the customer were chatting up a storm, and he told me that he loves it, i told him that if i couldn't get the jeep rubicon mw 3 i would deffently try to get the 2013 jeep grand cherokee srt8, in black. plus im sure that its really good going off road as well on road, and traveling.
@blueduster74 I believe you are wrong. A direct quote from Car and Driver. "The all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is built on a proven rear-wheel-drive unibody platform sharing the same underpinnings as the Mercedes-Benz ML." I've read this in other car magazines as well. Wiki supports my claim with another source too.
@jenkomagic And what is it? A track vehicle? :)) 1) High center of gravity 2) For wheel drive 3) Robust chassis ...er...SUV? :)))
This vs. 2010 63 AMG. As an everyday car. Thoughts?
@djillest303 the point of having it? you love it, it makes you feel good!
that braking time is insane!
@joey187 huh? they are all naturally aspirated(SRT's) except for the SRT4 Neon which is turboed
i love the way that Hemi sounds ..
@YiJustin558 Don't wait for the 8-speed. I'm 90% sure that engine is V6-only, because it's not rated for the torque of the 5.7, let alone the 6.4. The reason the 5-speed is still in use, is it's a big beefy transmission that can handle lots and lots of power. The 8-speed is really there for fuel economy. But, it doesn't make much to make an automatic shift violently-fast, and there's a lot of torque to pull you between gears.
@brihamlin1 Yes I agree, I am very happy with the merger. I am also happy with how Fiat said they "wouldn't screw with Chrysler." I just want to make sure people know that this is American, not Italian.
@danraich it is cheaper but the cayenne has more hp and the BMW is really nice too... only think I'm sceptical about in the Jeep is that is american made, i find generally that european cars are built... better?
SRT really did a good job on this version. Those are impressive stats for a car this big and the kind of car it is. Very nice. But personally I'd take a Challenger and Charger first.
wow!! this one look great
would be nice to see a trail rated srt8!!!!!
@bounceizbackk What's the MPG...lol.....you don't wanna know. Probably like around 11-12 city and like 15-16 highway. (based off my buddy's 2008 Cherokee SRT8)
@MagicSeal The GMC Typhoon wasn't a SUV??
@mcfetty11 I think Fiat deserves a ton of credit for leveraging existing assets to improve existing models. You can't fault them for not having designed the Grand Cherokee as they were called in under duress. Kudos to Fiat and company for a job well done.
damn this truck looks badass!!!
@ledka123 Very easy to run all those different numbers on any given day. It does vary by .04 tenths. My 12 has ran 4.3 and 12.7. But averages 4.6 and 12.9 and 13 flat all day
jeep all the way i have the v6 cause its a family car but i have always been a fan of the srt8, best SUV ever
this is a fine automobile. it has the muscle to handle most cars on the road. awesome!!!!!!
@Seventh7Art Uhm no. Tires are not made for that, dunno about this differential mapping and suspension.
@falchard since when is lambo owned by fiat? whatd I miss?
@jsiszero The only reason people buy these it because they offer the best all around practicality, economy, and room for passengers. Not because they are different or sporty in anyway.
@emantabrizi regardless, it's 3 liters bigger, and has 200 more ft/lbs or torque, and about 90 more HP, and it gets better gas mileage...and the z06 weighs a lot less than the M3
This ca segment may be stupid, but those stats are sweet. I'm still sticking with my S4
I would prefer an Overland, the only thing is i like the LED daytime running lights on these and it's the only trim level that has them.
Impressive and beautiful. Wish Ford would come out with something along those lines.
i really lik the road performance but what about off road? i wanna see how it will do off road cuz when i think of jeep i think of good off road vehicles.
So with more power, Jeep made the new SRT8 slower than the old?
@cb7pwn you do realize the the Z06 corvette's 7 liter V8 gets more power, better gas mileage, and is about the same weight as the M3's 4.0L v8? and there are no 4 bangers to compete with the vette, boss 302, etc.
@carfreak493 Yes I know exactly how the weather affects performance, I've been to the track before. But even in cold weather I don't think the car is even capable of 13s flat, what a shame!! but I found out a couple days ago that the new model is about 600lbs heavier!! this amount of extra mass will cost you about half a second in the quarter. What we can do is wait for the 8 speed transmission....
Chrysler does it again, lets hope they continue going into the right direction :)
What's the soundtrack at the beginning?
Jeep Grand Cherokee is the new benchmark in SUV's
SRT8's taking over!!!
@ProQuadro What Japanese SUV can compete with this? We know Europe can, but what about Japan?
I thnk they were trying to go SPORT utility Vehicle. sounds great i love it.
@mikebfit That's actually not bad at all for that monster. I have a 04 grand cherokee with the V8 and i get around 13 city 17 hwy driving like a old grandma.
damn i like the sound of it
Never mind about the mods, I see you said yours is stock. The Mk IV was a huge step up from the Mark III, 2JZ-GT or GTE is worlds better than the 7M in terms of design, reliability, and technology. I had the 7M and was unfortunately forced to sell it after having multiple reliability issues:(
the interior is nice
Jeep has employed a new active exhaust system that lets Chrysler's cylinder-deactivating Fuel Saver Technology operate over a wider RPM band. Chrysler claims that with the larger gas tank, the SUV can now travel up to 500 miles (800 km) on a single tank, while other sources estimate range to be 450 miles (720 km).
how much would a 2007 srt8 be?
whats the MPG on this monster?
That exhaust
wow didnt you guys say in an earlier test of this car that it does 0-60 in 4.8s and stops from 60-0 in 112???
@lawsonmahoney i asked why they dont put a v8 in the jeep, the reason, they would have to change everything about the front build on where all the parts would have to be put, thats not the best description but oh well, dont ya love this thing though:)
can i put a 6.4 Hemi in a 89 Ram Pickup?
@afg96 Eh, American engines aren't the best for MPG, but the engine in this SRT8 is a appropriate and powerful. Plus, American engines are accessible and easy to modify and relatively reliable.
The rare of the Jeep looks like an Audi or a BMW. Little did we know but most cars today are put together by various countries and same goes for the ownership of the brand. Nice video!
i agree it should be in the high 30's-low40's i find that more reasonable.
But is it still able to off-road? MT should have also talked about it's off-road ability. Is it now another urban crawler?
I've always been set on race/sport compacts and I could never figure out why they call it a sports utility vehicle where it's not designed for utility... You see a Bronco you know it can be used for utility, or lift it a bit then its for off road sport
@sullyFL Its an international SUV
i love this car and the idea of it, I feel like it is the single best multipurpose car in the world. I used to hate jeep until i discovered this car :D price isn't bad too
That sound.!!
@xTechnoKillerx all 200 HP of it eh? Is yours modded? I had one as well and it was fun, but not fast compared to today's sports cars. It was fun to troll 80's and 90's mustangs with though, I pissed a lot of them off, they would always get mad as hell just seeing my car and would want to race.
beast
Just got one of these to daily during this winter

Does it handle in the snow still? I have the 5.7 hemi version and would love to upgrade someday but this snow in Pennsylvania definitely sucks! But summer would be extra fun!! Lol
Sweet car for off-road or just an outing with the family.
this looks like it would be such a blast to drive. and i wouldnt feel bad about gettin it dirty like i would with the porsche haha.
