Great video. Including the torque values was very helpful. Had a heck of a time with the coils. Wished I could have seen you remove and install them. I had to break tension on top nut of the strut assembly while the coils were not compressed. Otherwise, the shock shaft just spun. Also, the rear KYB shocks have bigger fixed mounting points that barely fit into the mounting well. I would have liked to see how you installed them.

@@FocusedGarage 2011 with less than 80k miles. I watched another video where the fixed mounting point slid in easily. I was tempted to install them unside-down. I did install them correctly. Your video is comprehensive. There's a lot to cover. All in all great video.

They typically need replaced around 60,000-75,000 miles for comfort but I’ve had original suspension components and I’m at 190,000 on my 2013. Definitely replace shit at intervals

eaglei22 197,000 miles. DO NOT BUY DURALAST. Buy Hyundai OEM, Moog or AC delco. Shocks/struts go with KYB. I replaced my balljoints/control arms at 170,000 miles due to screwing them up but cheaped out on parts.

eaglei22 and as crazy as this sounds, I’d recommend heading to the dealership. They’re good at nitpicking and their nitpicking helped me identify an issue with a wheel bearing that’s so fucked it doesn’t make noise. It’s loose as hell though. Find a good Hyundai dealership to build repore with and use them for critical parts/labor. It’s expensive but if you need this car to last, it’s a good choice. Also find a mechanic who knows those cars well. Hyundai Elantras are actually quite particular when it comes to suspension parts, oil/filters, tires etc. Yokohama tires have worked well with my limited since I have issues with other brands. (17 in wheel)

eaglei22 and another interesting thing is to LET THE CAR FULLY WARM BEFORE DRIVING. This engine can handle all sorts of shit but hates being driven when cold or less than full temp. The engine will not last if you start the car and drive before normal engine temp. I actually have had an issue with start up ticking (quite loud, I have a video) that I made go away by letting the car warm up at ALL times, using M1 Full Synthetic oil with Lucas Regular stabilizer. The car actually prefers Hyundai OEM filters too after figuring out that using M1 Filters contributes to this Start up ticking issue for me. Change the oil between 5000-7500 miles (using synthetic)

Do think it be OK to buy something like this from a junkyard? I’m selling the car so I want to do it as cheap as possible. The struts are making so much noise I think I’d have a pretty hard time selling the car.
