2010-14 Subaru Outback Front Driver Door Disassembly

A quick how-to video showing how to dismantle the front driver door of a 2010 Subaru Outback. Sorry for the contrast, the camera doesn't like the headlight on bright.

Thanks so much for this video. My car got broken into and they stole my rescue gear. That sucked. And then to be quoted $600 to replace the window and regulator. I was like, I can do that myself for $50. Got a door to harvest parts from from a junkyard. Was a little scared because I've never done glass before, but your video showed how easy it is. Thanks so much!

Thanks for this. I bought a new driver’s window motor/regulator combo for our 2011 Outback. How do I put it with the window not going down?

maybe you could still get to the screws? Maybe just cut the cable? I'm about to give this a shot myself so I'll let you know how it goes.

@@matthewwachter I had to fix it and our Xterra. If I remember right- for the Subaru- the tabs poking through the door from the window regulator- I bent them back and forth until the broke off- then poked the unit out of where it was holding onto- while securing what would end up being the loose window- so it didn’t fall and break. I got it fixed.

@@paulgray3444 - I just did that tonight. Wish I had seen this. Now I am looking for a video that can show me the foam piece that fell out of the door. I don't where it goes. The glue is old (2014 Legacy) and the square foam piece fell on the floor when I was putting the panel back on. I think I might never find where it is supposed to go.

Per @paulgray3444, you can try bending the tabs until they break. I used vice grips to mangle them until nothing was left. With the tabs gone, you can unscrew the nuts holding the regulator in place and slide the window slightly down. For me, that didn't help. I was better off with the window up. I then spent a very long time reaching into the window frame from the lower half, using an end wrench, and feeling around until I got the end wrench on the right window fastening nut.. (and undid the bolt, of course). It felt like this took an hour. The left nut holding the window in place was more easily accessible, but that is RELATIVE to the right. Some folks tried cutting the upper wire, but I don't know how to reach it. Admittedly, I didn't try as I didn't know others had done this. I did cut the lower wire but it didn't help, since that only is expected to "help" the window go up if the wire breaks. Yet another person tried just giving the motor a hard hit. His motor started working long enough to move the window down.
