First off, this video was extremely helpful as I just replaced a bad driver's side window motor on my daughters 2007 Outback. Both the disassembly and reassembly instructions were very clear and easy to follow along with. The only issue I had was her window was stuck halfway down which meant we couldn't access the 2 nuts that hold the window to the regulator. My solution was to have a buddy help me by holding the window as I removed all the bolts and nuts holding the regulator in place. Once the regulator was free from the door he moved the window/regulator combination to a position where I could removed this 2 nuts easily. Then I separated the window from the regulator and he removed the window. After that it was easy to follow the rest of the instructions to complete the job. Thanks again for this video.

READ THIS IF YOUR WINDOW IS STUCK UP! I just did this repair, and you can do it if your window is stuck in a closed position. All you have yo do is swap the step of taking off the window bolts and removing the whole actuator itself. So take the 4 actuator bolts on the right side off first and hold the window so it falls gently forward. From there you can reach those two window nuts. Remove your window. Take out the remaining two bolts for the actuator and you can take it right out. This issue gave me a headache, so I hope this can help someone.

With the help of this video, I was able to successfully change the driver side power window motor in 2006 outback. My window was in the up position, but watching this video made it clear what things I need to take off and the sequence to do it. My daughter was a great help by holding onto the window as I took off the last series of nuts and bolts. We were able to slowly let the window lower by hand as the scissor arms of the regulator collapse. I was able to access the two nuts that held window to regulator arms using a 10mm wrench. The reinstall took some patients, but everything worked out just fine. I got everything into place, and hooked up the switch to lower the window to allow me to tighten the nuts holding the window (They were on finger tight before lowering the window.) This job can be done with window up; just be patient, and don't force things.

Great video. I just had a thought. You moved the window down to line up a hole so you could take a nut off, how do you do that if your motor is bad and stuck in the up position? Also does the motor have to be set anyway? Like the windshield wipers do on there motors?

I did this job a month ago. Dead motor. Window stuck up. Nuts mounting glass to sliding track are accessible with a slim wrench no matter the window position. Once you release the window glass you can move it out of the way so all other connectors can be reached. No need to set the motor. It just spins in each direction per the switch. Limits up and down are governed by the scissor arm mechanism.

Just did this job on '05 OB. Useful video. One caveat--no need to remove mirror/door glass even if motor frozen like mine was. All nuts and bolts are accessible with minor difficulty. You will need a long narrow wooden rod to prop the window as you work and a friend to push and pull it as you detach and reattach.

Hi ! Thanks for your video, it is very detailed and helpful however, you need to do a video showing the replacement of the motor with the glass stuck in the up position. Most persons are having the same problem, including myself. What normally happens is that the switch fails in the close position which put a constant supply on the motor, this eventually burns out the motor, and the glass remains in the up position. If you really what to help a lot of people, then you need to make a video, showing the motor replacement with the glass in the up stuck position. Thanks in advance !

Hello great video!!!However, my motor was not working so I did not remove the window at all, kept it fully up and removed the bolts that hold the window together and once the window was detached, I removed the rest of the bolts and the motor came out. I tested the new motor while it was out of the door which saved time . Once I lined up the motor inside the door I was able to attach the window and move it up and down as required. Thank you for this video which can help a novice like me, to do the work of experts. It is wise to have another person to help with the whole process.

In this and your rear window motor install video, you assume the window motor is working to position the two nuts that hold the window on. For most people replacing the motor, that’s not the case. It would be beneficial to show the removal without being able to lower it.

If anyone watching this had a window stuck in the up position and you need to replace the motor, just remember these things: 1. You're going to have to take all 4 bolts and 2 nuts off to release the regulator in the door. You can't lower the window to the access ports like he does to release the window from the regulator in the two spots that they connect. 2. Once the regulator is released, you'll have to release the window from the regulator in awkward positions, which is totally possible. 3. You might have to use wd40 or pb blaster on the fasteners holding the motor to the regulator. Mine were so tight that I could have stripped them without loosening them with a lubricant. 4. To align the regulator, I had to connect the regulator to the wiring harness, lay the regulator in the bottom of the door, then connect the window switch interface/door to the wiring harness and work the regulator so that the teeth were facing up, not down. It took me FOREVER to realize that I had to do this because aside from this small detail, my regulator looked exactly like theirs, but it wasn't aligning properly in the door to fasten the bolts to it. This step might take 2 people. This step also cost me hours of frustration in the June sun and heat.... 5. Make sure your window is on both racks/rails. My the front part of my window wasnt, and my back part was, and I had to take the door apart again because it wouldn't close properly because of this. 6. Don't leave the speakers loose. You don't want rattling when you crank it!

+RealTalkos You'll have to find a way to get at the screws that hold the motor to the rest of the assembly. This will allow you to disengage the motor, so the rest of the assembly can move freely. Be careful: once you disengage the motor the window could drop and break. You'll want to get somebody to hold it, or wedge something under the lift arm (inside the door) so it can't move.

+Byron Guevara You'll want to double check that there is power at the window motor and confirm the window switch hasn't failed. If you've confirmed that the window motor is bad. Have an assistand help you hold the window glass and then carefully remove the bolts holding the regulator to the door. Carefully lower the glass and regulator to a point where you can un bolt the glass and remove it from the door. Then try to remove the motor from the regulator or collapse the regulator to get it out of the door. It won't be easy, so take your time.
