Ford engineers wrote we designed the car to be better than it had to be and then left it alone, ain't broke, dont fix it, fantastic automobile.

Nothing wrong wanting one of these. Such a practical, reliable, and comfortable vehicle.

Great video, but the Crown Vic is definitely not built on the same frame as an F150. The panther platform chassis is its own entity. The only similarity it does have with the F150 is that both are full frame. The Crown Vic was the last sedan ever built on a full frame. Absolutely love these cars.

I miss when the Crown Victoria was the dominant police/taxi car for literally decades. I once had a classic 1989 model. Cool ex-police model, though I would go for the regular one for luxury comfort (note they're hardly any different in performance). The Grand Marquis and Town Car are fun to have as well. Tough V8 cars.

For the years I had my vic it was much more common for people to be afraid to pass me in the fast lane than to move out of my way. They would just lurk in my blind spot while im cruising in the slow lane lol

Panther platform was only the same as the truck in the 70s

if you havent driven one in the snow yes theyre quite fun to drive in the snow I have a 2010 CVPI it has a spotlight but never had a pushbar on it. Here where I live in missouri the havnt had crown vics in a while so people dont think im a cop theyll drive right passed me. If you do get a crown vic and your horn doesnt work it probably has a cut wire I would just look for crown vic horn fix and it will show you around where it should be located.

I see they made the same mistake I did and replaced the original radio with one of them goofy light up ones. WHY don't they sell simple looking radios that have the modern ameneties?!

My 07 and 11 both weigh 4,000 pounds with no fuel. With the 3:55 rear ends they do 0-60 in 7.5 to 8 seconds. Change the steering wheel with the cruise buttons and then activate the feature in the software. My general g-max5 tires are great for all season. I paid under $100 per tire with rebates. And get this--Made in USA right on the tire. Not some cheap over priced chin chin stuff. Any questions?

Haha that would be nice, far too busy to travel at the moment though. At some point I plan to just walk into a random dealer in RI CT or MA with a police vehicle and say hey can I review this with the pure intention of channel content😂 We’ll see!

You can get the same tires on the civilian ones they just don't come with them but you can buy them all day

I mean reliable American cars are rare, I've heard and from my experiences these are quite smooth rides. But yeah, it was for places where fuel was dirt cheap. I spent my childhood in the Gulf (and still am actually) and these cars were very common in my childhood as fuel was just cheap af here. Not anymore though.

It's actually built on the F100 frame not the F150 frame, i have an 08 with a Marty tune ,total cat delete, MSD coil packs, love mine.

Yeah that’s been pointed out, my mistake. I want a CVPI desperately, hope it happens sometime soon!

They do NOT have “massive body roll” I’ve owned four of them and they handle excellent. Helps to have the proper tires as well.

Yeah I guess it wasn’t massive but some was there, versus say a lower slung car. For a full size sedan it was alright though for sure.

Yeah I second this, mine handles great and has very very minimal roll

The could of made the body out of aluminum to save weight and prevent that nasty wheel fender rust there known for but kept the frame steel like the modern F150 and they could of made all final drive gear ratios come standard with a limited slip differential not just the 3.55 and put the 6r80e transmission in it instead of that crappy 4 speed (they could of also put a 6 speed manual from an svt cobra mustang but then again there not allowed to have manuals in fleet vehicles) then it would of been a bit better.

Yeah aluminum would be nice, but this was a car from the era of 1997. It hadn’t been reworked too much beyond the workhorse of that year. It has its own charm to myself and many others:)

Does it make a slight hum or a slight howling whine noise at 60 mph by any chance?

It makes some wind noise. There is minimal to none for sound deadening. The whine sound is more from the engine, the 4.6 tends to have a supercharger-like whine to it in normal function which sounds cool.

@@radialreviews well yeah when you floor it it makes a whine and 1st gear also makes a slight whine I'm aware of that. But when I go 60 it makes a slight howling noise it's been doing that since I got it.

@@radialreviews I'll get it checked out I don't think it's a bad hub bearing or a bad rear axle bearing cause the axle spins extremely smooth when you spin it by hand like no resistance and no noise.

I don't think it's a bad pinion either cause a bad pinion only makes noise when you accelerate when you let go of the gas the noise goes away for me it's the whole time even when you let go of the gas in fact as the car starts slowing down the noise starts slowing down with it and then dissappear completely.

I’m not sure, likely since the cruisers were meant to remain just that - and also since they don’t want to blur the lines between performance motors being placed inside random cars and the true performance cars or largest vehicles who need the power.

But did you not notice that the large rear-wheel drive sedans with a V8 engine were superior to the Ford Crown Victoria? Like the Lexus 400, it was in 1994 with 250 hp and in 2000 the engine power was raised to 290 hp The Cadillac DTS also has a 305 horsepower engine The Mercedes E500 engine generates 326 horsepower BMW 7 Series All of these cars have a powerful engine As for the Ford Crown Victoria, it does not exceed 239 horsepower Ford had to add more power to this car and add a 5- or 6-speed automatic gearbox

I agree, I know nothing about 90s cars otherwise though. Ford was making a grandpa car with the Vic and grand marquis with proven old technology for use in fleets and durability perspective. I think this is why it seems boring yet adequate in so many ways, and was not updated, so as not to disrupt their successful ‘tried and proven’ setup they had created.

I would love to own a ford crown victoria, it is one of my dream cars as for me the best cars are the boring, reliable ones who do the job years on end. I am from Europe and owned fords and one toyota, so far they have all been very reliable. Unfortunately, I live in an European country, here the decomissioned police cars are nothing special. The car used by the police is basically the main middle class car, so you find at least ten on every street.

god damn it man i went and checked a low mileage low idle hour one today but the motor was clackinnnnn... dont know if thats the spark plugs or rod knock. it was nice with good price but that sound just scared me away

To my knowledge some came with a rear dif lock, and others did not, depending on the options a department selected.
