Sounds good. Now go get some after market neoprene sway bar bushings front and rear to tighten up the suspension . Another thing people overlook is changing your rear end lube. I live in the south where it gets hot, so get the ROYAL PURPLE 75W-140 lube.(if you live where it's hot) it has the friction modifier in it. Takes 2 1/2 qts. Drain it, clean it out real good and put a new cover gasket also. I painted my rear end cover before I reinstalled it (dark grey) and REPLACE your vent hose with 5/16 fuel line. That is very important. Do that and you'll be good to go brother....

I actually sold this car this past January. Buut i missed and regretted it so much that this last Friday i picked up another one 😄. This ones way nicer, and much quicker then the silver one in the video. White 2011 P7b, with 99k miles and a whole bunch of goodies. Will post a video of that when i get around to it.

I have been on the fence about tuning my 03 P71. Listening to the down shift, 1 - 2 shift, and how the engine sounded, I am no longer on the fence. Absolutely going to be calling marty up for this tune, I plan on doing some bolt on mods soonish for my full stage one, but I think the tune alone will be the most important step. I understand he has a package where you send the new specs and he sends a new tune when you make upgrades. assuming that is still the thing, I will be spending a little more but I haven't found anyone anywhere near his price for a proper effective tune that makes such a dramatic difference in the overall performance. I am also looking into getting my transmission modified, but once again, finding that special jmod confident individual seems to be difficult. THANKS FOR THE VID!

Best bang for the buck mods are tuner and rear gears, it came with either 2.73 or 3.27 I believe put some 3.73s or 4 10s it with leave harder if your not spinning but gas mileage is gonna go done ,you may also go with aluminum drives haft and lighter wheels for less rotating mass, but you may not want all that for a daily

I spent a load of money on the exhaust when i first bought the car to fix it because the previous owner cut three of the four cats off, and then it just turned into a whole rabbit hole of different mufflers. But the setup thats on it now is the perfect sound for me. Love it so much.

If by the run button, you mean secure idle (press a button and leave the car without the keys in but the engine on) most cop cars get that removed after service, or surprisingly a lot never have it in the first place, and just get left with the keys in the ignition. I made by own secure idle and installed it, it was quite easy.

Run premium fuel. Having the boost added, it's mandatory. Or you risk chipping pistons from donation issues. There's a big passability that your ECM is detecting KR and pulling timing. That'll rob you of a lot of power. Not familiar with that tuning platform you're using, but with HP Tuners you can use the scanning software program to check for KR and do a lot of other custom tuning. It's what I've been using for a few years now. That thing you're using reminds me of one of those hypertech tuners that has pre programmed canned tunes.

I got a marty tune for my 2000 Grand Marquis and I had to have him change a few things, mainly the wide open throttle shifts and shift firmness. Side note, he seemed upset that I wanted a few revisions until I got what I wanted. Don't let that dissuade you from getting the tune you want. You paid $535 for it. Anyway, it would shift out of first at like 60mph at WOT, which was ridiculous. If I hadn't had him change that, it would have eventually destroyed the torque converter. I asked him to lower the 1-2 shift to 4800rpm with transmission firmness to 6. I set the transmission firmness to +5 with the tuner and now it's perfect! Dosn't look like much on camera but it feels a lot better in person. Is it worth $500? Depends on how you feel after buying it. I had the money to spare and I enjoy driving it now more than ever so I'm satisfied.

2003 and up are what you want. They have the PI engine (2001+, Performance Improved), and the new-for-2003 suspension and steering upgrade which changes a boat that wallows in the corners into a vehicle that can holds its own against most. Personally I'd go 2005+ due to CANbus/DBW (much simpler overall setup). 2005-2008 seem to be the sweet spot; 2005 still has the 1996-2004 style instrument cluster (but can be swapped up if you're up to that task), and some don't like the quarter panel AM/FM antenna they have (only year to have this). 2009-2011 are hit and miss; build quality didn't seem as good in those years at least with consistency. 2011 has the cartoonishly large headrests.

You might still have taller gears. Some P71s had 3.55 gear set. Yours may have the 3.27 or even the 2.73 highway gears. I put a 3.73 set in my LX Sport and the car responds much better but still only 2300 RPM at 70 and 23 MPG or better if I baby it.

  • @Matt-Wynn

Ive had it on my car for the past month or so and i love it. When you talk with Marty he will ask what firmness level you want for your shifts for the transmission, i went with a 7 (5 is stock) because of the mileage and upkeep of my vic. Alls my car has done is the exhaust is completely custom (ive got a few videos throughout the different renditions) and a drop in k&n air filter. Plus in the Sct tuner you get, you can change the pressure for each shift into gears. So for example, after i loaded the tune, i noticed that the 2-3 shift was ridiculous, and i dont wanna blow my trans out, so i lowered the pressure -5 and its perfect for me at that. Anymore questions and i can try to give my two cents.

Not really true. I've driven those older ones, and I've worked on a lot of them. I have a 2005, have had it since early 2014. It's been the best car I've ever had. The DBW vs cable 'performance difference' is all in the head. It's like a placebo - you think the cable is better but it isn't.

The reason why i made this video was to share my experience of buying the Marty tune. I wasnt really caring about the performance gains, if there was any at all cool. Alls i cared about was whether or not it affected how my car drove specifically, and it made it more of a fun experience to drive vs stock tune. However, i do wish i had a dragy to test all my different cars and compare.

My car stock was way better then yours, mine is also not a p71. I have single exhaust with a cherry bomb and it still looks better then your car stock. My ecu went bad with the pats system so I got a p71 ecu and it now shifts right at red line and bangs shifts, from every video I've seen my car is a lot more awake then most crown vics. That being said in the year or so the car is getting a turbo and if it doesn't it will be getting a marty tune.

I can assure you that stock P71 will be better, performance wise, than your stock LX. That single exhaust will not outflow the dual H-pipe exhaust the stock P71 comes with. Cherry Bomb mufflers (glasspacks) are notoriously one of the most restrictive style mufflers you can buy. Don't think for one minute it will outflow a stock muffler, given that you can see right through it. See those 'cheese grate' baffles in the pipe? Those set up eddy currents in the flow that cause back pressure. There's no way that's better than a stock P71. Don't think for one minute that you can extrapolate a performance difference in your car by the feel of your butt vs. a KZread video. Life doesn't work that way.
