Ford Panther Platforms Have Cheat Codes To Self-Diagnose And Activate Options

I wish this video existed when I got this car.
Avoid taking your #CrownVic or other Ford #Panther platform to the dealer to activate options when you can do it yourself! This video goes over the codes and processes to activate #Options your car may or may not have.
If you have one of these cars, try these out and you may discover you have something you didn't even know you had.

I second your EATC observation. Code 024 is a failed blend door. Every time I've had to replace a bad battery, the blend door gets confused and lost when the new battery is connected. Resetting the EATC will fix that. Two methods. The first as you showed pushing a sequence of buttons on the EATC. The other is using ForScan and selecting the EATC self test feature. I've done the latter because it tells me what the error codes mean. I don't know why changing a bad battery does this, but it has happened three times to me now and the self test reset fixed it each time.

On the early 2000's mustang you can hold the trip reset on the odometer to bring up the obd scan function and then tap to scroll through functions. Oh and to set a fresh key fob you turn the key to run 8 times and then to off doors lock and you hit the fob to sync them. One day for some reason after smoking the tires my key wouldn't come out of the ignition so left it and took the fob. Oh and some vw's from that era could roll down all windows with a second unlock with the key in the door. I love these added little features, like my 96 miata has a diagnostic jumper box under the hood to bypass computer control of individual systems, between that and the obd 2 port I feel spoiled and lazy lol

Just had my tire guy install 4 new Firestone Firehawk PVS (Pursuit Vehicle Snow) tires on my '04 Crown Vic P.I. The tech told me he had another decommissioned Crown Vic in for tires last week. It showed 540,000 miles on the odo with untouched original 4.6 still running strong. Let's wait and see how many of the current P.I. Explorers, Chargers, Chevys, etc. will be out there on their original engines after 500k miles and a decade of being a discontinued line. I'll bet nowhere near as many as there are Crown Vics on the road today. Your car is to a Crown Vic what an early Cougar was to a Mustang of its day. Enjoy it for a long time!

Ford sold a last order of crown Vic’s to the la county sheriffs department in 2012 just prior to closing the line down. Of those 600 cars ordered in 2012, 429 of them are still serving. The CVPI has already outlasted the dodge charger pursuit which left production this fall, it’s outlasted it’s Taurus based replacement, it’s outlasted it’s GM Australian based replacement by a significant margin, and it just might outlast its internal F-150 based replacement and it’s Silverado and Tahoe based GM replacements. The CVPI was perfected over a run of over 2 decades with millions upon millions of miles as civil servants and taxi cabs in cities coast to coast. It evolved to meet the demands of those who used it as a tool and a business. You don’t get given the title of NYC’s #1 cab, you earn it

Another thing you can do is take some needle nose pliers and open and close the blend door actuator manually, it is tricky, but you also don't have to take the dash completely apart, just drop the glove box and get a long flat head screwdriver and pry the silver hinge out from the plastic hinge, and open and cose it that way, but this is if your really lazy and don't want to replace it.

@@WarriorOfEden3033 you’re much more likely to find a grand Marquis in good shape owing to who typically bought them. Most of them were or are owned by older retired adults who really don’t drive all that much anymore. ( my dad who’s retired has put maybe 4500 miles on his 2022 Toyota Tacoma since he bought it). The P71 has this mythical status applied to it but it’s more hype and most have the snot hammered out of them. Now post 05 or 06 ( not sure specifically when) the 4.6 in the panther cars started to get the better flowing heads from the mustang’s 4.6. This little tweak pushed the single exhaust cars from 210 horsepower to 235 and the dual exhaust cars got upwards of 250. ( it’s also a thing you can do on older modular 4.6s and get easy power increases). Your not going to see crown Vic’s past 08/09 cause that’s when ford made them a fleet only order, rental car companies could get them out to 2012 as the police could and a great many cop cars were just off the line rental grade vics. The grand Marquis remained available until ford killed off mercury and that’s where you’ll find panther cars in the best shape ( many were ex rental cars as the GM was a favorite of rental vehicles in the premium category). Lastly you can find them in Lincoln town car form as well. It’s still the same rock simple underpinnings with added luxury trim but don’t let the fancy duds fool you cause it’s the same underneath. The biggest fail areas are the transmissions which earlier cars had fail at the 150k mark ( still easy to rebuild and get more from but ford redesigned it and it was much more durable post redesign) and the quaters are another sore spot in northern cars as they tend to rot out and are tough to replace. The other trouble spot is where the frame sits ahead of the rear tire. Without being cared for this area can develop car killing rust which borks the car. The last trouble spot is on Mercury and Lincoln cars more then the Vic and that’s the rear air suspension. The system is fairly robust and reliable but the height sensors tend to go first ( this results in a car with its rear suspension fully extended and affects handling ). The most common repair is to eliminate the air suspension entirely with coil springs and shocks this eliminates it from ever going bad again. Though if the airbags are in good shape sometimes replacing the height sensor can get it working again ( and it’s a really nice feature if your going on vacation and you like to load up the trunk. If you can keep the rust demon at bay and apply the right anti corrosive agents in the trouble spots 400k to 500k is not outrageous to see ( 120,000 to 150,000 is nothing to these low stressed 4.6s as they don’t rev that high in normal service and the whole drivetrain is very underutilized which contributes to its longevity). Only a 4 cylinder Toyota Tacoma can match it for durability. Last thing is sone of the paint colors on the panther cars aren’t so good, the beiges and the light blues can sometimes peel off of the primer so you might need to spend 3 or 500 bucks to get it redone by a professional

I have, I can explain, first and foremost, if your thermostat sticks or car over heats, it will cause pressure build up where the thermostat sits in the intake, it's plastic and aluminum together, the sealed part, which it leaks there, when this happens, and what else happens, is water will then leak down into the coil packs, causing a missfire.another reason car will over heat and cause this problem is the coolant fan module will go out, so.if your driving on a hot day and you don't hear your fan kick on, that's most likely it.

  • @DaddysMoneyGarage

    @DaddysMoneyGarage

    Жыл бұрын

The wiring harness for the sending unit runs right under where the spare tire mounts, and over time the friction between the tire and the trunk floor can wear away the harness, causing a short that can cause it to read full constantly. Also, the instrument clusters for this generation panther are notorious for having problems with the solder joints and plastic circuitboards. However, checking the harness is much easier than pulling the cluster and resoldering everything. I’d try that first. And if that isn’t the problem, the ECU ultimately reads the voltage coming from the sender and slosh sensor. At that point, I’d just live with it until something else fails requiring replacement of the computer lol.

Well they killed the panther in 2012 officially however the modular 4.6 lasted another year or 2 on the mustang until they went to the 5.0. But really nothing else shared parts with the Vic. The police Taurus and exploder were entirely new products. Ford built over a million panthers and parts are still very available. For example in 2012 LASD ( la county sheriffs department) bought 600 CVPIs just prior to ford discontinuing the car. Today there are 429 LASD ford CVPIs still in service. They’ve outlasted 3 of their successors in the form of the Ford police interceptor utility ( police explorer). The dodge charger pursuit and the Taurus based ford police interceptor. With the end of dodge charger production this leaves the explorer based interceptor utility and the Chevy Silverado and Tahoe police trucks as all that’s left ( ford also markets the F-150 based police responder in both gas and electric )

Forscan is free if you don't need _all_ of the service features. You can't pull your door code without the service upgrade, but that also allows you to dig deep into the running data and it's how we figured out why the transmission went toast in Sabrina's 1997 (bad ecm).

@@DaddysMoneyGarage I do know they offer the extended key for free (which is good for 3 months, can renew indefinitely), or pay for it. I was able to pull the door code using the free extended license..

My P71 is in dark mode. Dome light will not come on when the door opens. Any fixes? 08 P71

You need FORScan to turn off dark mode. Or take it to the dealer. Where they’ll just use FORScan to turn it off. Personally, I’d just buy FORScan and use it. It’s the most useful Ford program ever for diagnostics.

Now we're talking! Time to resubscribe. I did the climate control thing and got a 24 and 25 code. What's that mean? Now I got steady clicking behind the dash. Probably a vacuum leak on those vent doors. Fuckin A.

2006 panthers and later models do not have the keyless entry factory code inside the door. I took mine to the dealer. For about $50 and 45 mins....it was worth money and time spent.
