I would have spent a fortune by now fixing this car but i swear every time I have a problem, some nice person has already published a solution. I'm damn near certified and i thank you!!

Stacey Young my radio doesn’t work either, did you fix the problem yourself? I am clueless to cars, is it easy enough ?

Thank you, I did the diagnosis and repair exactly as you said it, even with the vacuum hose to mate the 2 fiber optic lines together and everything works great!!!!

Hi, IT WORKS!!! THANK YOU I just did this using 3/16 OD "hard emission tubing" purchased at the local auto store. I also "looped" the ONSTAR cable in the trunk using the same method. I no longer get that error too! THANKS!!

Hi Bob, can you tell me where the red fiber optic light originates? I am not getting a light at amp under seat, in trunk or at dash radio. I did check all fuses. do you know where the radio fuse is? What amp its rated? Thanks

a fiber optic o bus was the dumbest idea gm has ever had. ive had so many problems with my 93 because of the o-bus

I just bypassed my radio today, all I did was grab a small piece of paper, turn it into a cylinder and use tape to keep together, took the cables and inserted from each side, put the amp back and VOILA!!! My radio is back :)

My car only the left side speakers work is that the amp? Or the head unit? I know it is not a fuse I've probably checked every in the car..

ok we have that problem we don't here the blinkers and no sound 2004 Saab the mechanic restarted the battery and that's when it stop working do we really have to take the seat off

...everything works (CD, turn signal sounds, etc) on the sound system EXCEPT the actual AM/FM radio on my 06 9-3...anyone have any ideas?

Hey Gang. I made this fix last week while I had my car up on stands replacing the turbocharger (2004 9-3). Anyway, the fix does and did work, but it now seems that somehow the CD player is going all screwball crazy and is sounding like it is trying to eject a disc. Even when the car is off and the key completely removed. The result is a dead battery. Anyone else dealing with anything like this after the fiber optic fix? Thanks.

remove the cd changer from below temperature controls on dash and you can install any head unit 1/2 din size there

I and can remove your car stereo and put another in my Saab 9-3 convertible?

I have this problem now can't find the vacuum line

question- after this repair did the door and center dash speakers all cease working?

Based on my experience, the sound returned; not ceased. AND, initially the sound to the front speakers was distorted for awhile, but came back to proper sound a few hours later. I tinkered with the bass and treble buttons which seemed to restore the sound quality to normal.

I also lost sound for blinkers and so on. I have sound in door speakers and center. If you put on headlight the sound can come back. Very strange system.

Mr. Bob we are having the same problem. But we have a question, the red light in the amp is it supposed to blink or be a steady stream of light?

i tried it and it dident work, i think i just need a new amp

You don't necessarily need a piece of vacuum line. Use anything that simply allows the two fibre opt cables to have a continuous laser connection. HOWEVER, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU NOTE WHICH CABLE CAME FROM THE TOP CONNECTOR AND WHICH CAME FROM THE BOTTOM, IN THE EVENT YOU WANT TO PERMANENTLY FIX OR REPLACE YOUR AMP. THE CABLES NEED TO BE RETURN TO THEIR ORIGINAL OUTLETS. I put a piece of scotch tape on the upper cable so the technician would know where it originated from when I sent it out for permanent repair.

I just did this. Since I cant remove the seat, I just removed the amplifier (not easy). Push the seat all the way up and as high as it will go to get the best access. Its hard to reach the harness cable but once you figure out what to push, it will snap out. Take the amp out and open it up. Disconnect the fiber cables and butt them together. I used tubing and tape as temporary but I bought a connector made for this. Put the amp back together and then snap it back into the harness under the seat. My radio came back but I am missing all the speakers on the drivers side. I was hoping to lose only the door speakers. Maybe they will come back once I get the permanent fiber connector and the splice is made better. But this definitely works if your desperate and don't want to shell out for a new amp!!

great fix but a slightly steadier camera and clearer description would have been helpful

same thing just happened to me did what Mrgreasybob did and worked a treat you can just about manage to do it without taking seat out if your patient thanks i have tunes :)

dident work for me i think my amp is just bad :(

För det löser inget problem, det enda han gör är att koppla förbi förstärkaren, vilket betyder att du kommer sakna en hel del ljud i bilen. Tydligen är de vanligt fel på -03 -04 modellerna, det är bara köpa begagnad från skroten, kolla bildelsbasen.se. Det är samma förstärkare upp till -06.
