To clarify: The cheap scanner shown in the video is NOT a replacement for a tech2 scanner. It's simply a cheap device that you can use to get an idea of why the check engine light is on and to research the code further. A tech 2 will be able to go a step further and aid in actual diagnostics (especially my case with an emissions code and probably needing a leak down test). For $12 this scanner is well worth the investment though!

Depends on your definition of cheap. I bought mine used and have around 200 bucks into it. I mention a place to buy new and talk more about tech 2 scanners in this vid: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gG1spqSll6qznbA.html

After 2002 (the second edition) most adapers will work. On My 1st edition (9-5) (1998) none have worked yet. Are You aware of a adapter which will work on my model?

I live in a small town without Saab or GM dealers wish I could easily find a tech2
That’s actually a really great scanner for the money I have one and use it on my Saab plus a bunch of different cars it always works and helps fix the problem.
Thanks for posting, found it on Amazon Prime for $21.99 and ordered it .
Great suggestion. Also ELM327 + Torque works (at least on an older Saab like mine).
I have one. Must plug it in my9-3 Hirsch some day :)
I got one like it from Wally World. It did not detect an out of range thermostat on my 2003 9-3 convertible. Ya get what ya pay for!
hi, on my 900ng my 1997 which version of software for tech 2 should i get? i can only find .148
My Saab has a check engine light on. I tried Kobra brand OBD2, which looks exactly like yours. But it said no code was found, and I later found out that it can only read P codes, and my code is obviously a B, C, U, or some other Saab specific code.

same thing happened to me this did not work on a 2005 saab 93 2.0t I have a CEL but got no codes from this
Read and delete codes. Fix problem. Great price for home mechanic.
How is this different from any other elm327 scanner? Most of them are like 3 euro in Aliexpress
Does it read all modules? I have a clone of ds150e. It works but it can't communicate with several modules.
I returned one that was 100 bucks .. I used that red one when I had my volvo
The FIXD scanner is good too.

Hi great video we cant seem to get one here in Australia i looked on ebay but they have this one Junsun Car OBD2 EOBD Scanner would that work on a 2006 Saab 93 vector as my car has gone in to limp mode after filling up with fuel
@GBPackFan62

I have a 2005 9-3 Aero SS. That limp mode (fuel system) after filling up is probably a bad fuel sending unit. My understanding is that this part frequently goes bad in Saabs
Get a Tech2 or be prepared to shell out a lot of money to pay someone that already has one. How much to tow your immobilized car to the shop? How much, per hour, is the shop gonna charge for "Tech2" diagnostic time? Then what? Who's gonna repair it, at that point? Think they'll tell you how to fix it? Gonna tow your car BACK home then? You could've bought 2 Tech2's by that time. Doubt you'll find a Tech2 for less than $250-$300, these days (gotta buy the memory card, too, don't forget). If you do find one that cheap, JUMP ON IT! If you like the car, gonna keep the car for a long time and like working on it......bite the bullet and get a Tech2. You can always resell it, too, don't forget. As my son likes to say, with respect to purchasing pricey tools, "buy once, cry once".....lol

U my friend riding around in a GM not a true SAAB so any obdII scanner will read "check engine" light
Dude your socks!
Would this work to check on abs light and or turn on stability /traction control?

No it only checks engine light codes....I picked up the bluedriver obd2 reader for around 140 on amazon..only thing I found it doesn't do is steering positioning..but it doesn't do it for any vehicle...hope this helps.

Do you need a Tech 2 scanner to turn off headlights and parking lights? Because mine stay on all the time when I'm driving. Thank you.

I had what I think was the same scanner fail to read in my 9-5. I threw it away
I bought this because of your video. Hooked it up to my car and it told me no codes were found. yet the check engine light is still on and the car wont start.

You're assuming your no start issue is kicking a check engine light. In a lot of scenarios it in fact does not. The engine light you're seeing is likely the result of just having the key turned to the "On" position and is not actually a check engine light. If the scanner read the vehicles codes and came back no codes then no current codes are present (unless you have a ECU issue but normally that would show multiple codes or a communication error). It may have stored codes from prior key cycles but that would require a tech 2 to find out. You will likely need to diagnose the old school way. Start with the basics making sure the battery is good. Make sure the fuel pump is priming and that the engine is getting fuel. Check to make sure it has spark, etc.
Can I use it to activate the aux option on my 9.3 .... 😁🤔🤔🤔😁???????
@WeakestofWeeks
4 жыл бұрын
Is it a 03-06 9-3 with the armrest aux port? Then if so yes, that would need to be enabled via tech 2. If it was already in the car when you purchased it may already be enabled. Press the CD button twice and the radio should switch over to aux. If not, then it will need enabled with the tech2.
