    Wow Kevin, Ive watched so many of your vids now and they are all excellent and informative. I watched this in particular as I may be changing a Focus clutch myself. You are a legend, the only problem is, you are so skilled and make such awesome step by step vids that my mind is telling me I can do this in my lunch hour !!!!!. Maybe I should give myself the whole day. Thank you Kevin, excellent job as ever.

    I guess after doing such job for years it’s like knowing where all the spoons and forks and pans in your kitchen go 😉. If you do this as an amator for one incidental time then you’ll have to document really well where everything goes with pictures and so. And got to research all the torque specs for the bolts, and whether to or not use threadlocker for each bolt. For people who have only one car and need it to get to work or groceries i suppose it’s more effective to just pay a garage (or this channel owner if you live in the UK 😜)

    Job done, thanks to your video Kevin....For others looking at doing this at home, highly recommend a good battery impact driver, as access to some bolts is diifficult. Allow time to clean underside of engine and gearbox, ideally jet wash before starting on the clutch. Remember to loosen the 3 nuts on each strut top to enable to move the strut around when removing the drive shafts, have spares available in case need replacing...i.e new circlip for LHS drive shaft, drive shaft seals, ball joint boots, new knuckle pinch bolts and nuts. I used SACHS/ZF High Performance grease 4200 080 050 especially made for input shafts......also working under a gazebo and using same rubber floor tiles made it more comfortable to do this work.... I used a small motorcycle mini hydraulic jack with a flat area to support the gearbox, when raising up to the engine, and once in position, used a small ratchet strap to hold gearbox in place, then removed the jack for working room, so could easily jiggle the box without holding the weight until it slid on the engine...don't forget to donate some of the money you have saved via Kevin's paypal account as a thank you...

    Kevin, Great video and repair - thank you! The 2003 Focus with the 2.0L Zetec engine you posted in March had the MTX75 trans (same combo on my US 2002) and the 1.6L engine on this one has the IB5 trans. Interesting that you used basically the same technique to remove both but on the Zetec/MTX75 you loosened the subframe and on this one you didnt seem to need to do that. I did see your response to my comment at that video - thank you very much. Keep up the great work. Cheers Paul (in MA USA) ps I had never seen the type of clutch alignment tool you use before. I think the biggest trouble would be that the car is unusable for the time it’s apart. And if you get stuck in the process then you’ll have to get a flatback truck to bring the car and all the parts to a garage to finish it. And personally i don’t really like it to lay underneath a jacked up car for long periods of time… one mistake and that bit of car maintenance can finish off your entire life. Having your head between the pavement and 1400kg of steel is a gross way to go i think. Better to toss 400€ at a garage 😊

    I see you drain the gearbox oil on the lower bolt. is the gearbox in neutral during that time? Ive read that it can f..ck up the trainsmission if it moves when that bolt is removed. Im a bit afraid to drain with that but I see you use it confidenty all time.

  • @WMCS

    @WMCS

    3 жыл бұрын

    That’s the only place to drain. There wouldn’t be any damage as it’s not part of any gear system., it’s just a plunger bolt.

    3:12 will show my shop, I wasted money on axle nuts my fault, thought I needed them, he proves you do not, and no alignment issues either as my newly installed tie rod ends will stay put and my alignment will be same. It will be done to mine in a week or less. Shop did not say I needed the nuts, I will make sure they drain the newish, EXPENSIVE Ford oil too and re-use it. Ford now says DCT oil can be used in the MTX75, it is easier to find, whilst being $10 cheaper.

    Maybe he has so much experience after all those years that he knows to estimate it quite well. As an amator i would not “just do something”. If you overtighten you may break bolts or strip threads, and if it’s too loose then parts may rattle off while driving.
