2 foot Roof Raise aboard a Skoolie!!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello 👋 Fellow BoHo Bus Fans!!!!
The time has finally come!!!
The time to raise our roof has come....
and OMG it was no easy task!!
I felt I was very prepared.
I had all the hardware/materials, I removed all the rivets and piloted all my holes for bolts and rivets... but nothing prepared me for my bolt holes being the wrong size at the last minute.
So literally while my bus ceiling was high up in the air swaying back and forth with the wind, we had to quickly improvise with some other SS hardware instead. (Thank you Greg)!!
The hardware worked and everything is all stabilized and in place for us to continue to bolt things down in the days to come.
Another thing I would have done different to achieve an even higher roof raise (our goal was 28 inches and we made it to 24 inches) is I would have added more wood underneath our jacks then what we had. I explain that in our video :) other then that our roof raise went flawlessly.
So good preparation was definitely key!!!
Thanks again to everyone who helped and to all you (153) Subscribers that have been along with us on the journey so far!!!
We appreciate and love all your support!!
Please subscribe if you haven’t already :)
Stay tuned UP next....skin that bus!!!! 🚌♥️✌🏻

    One little wind gust would bring the whole thing down. Why most people do the "All" thread with welded collar method...way safer!! Glad they didn't get hurt!!

    Lookin great! You won’t bounce around with the sawzall if you put the collar all the way against what you are cutting

    you're supposed to press the front of the saw against what you are cutting. thats what that hinged skid around the blade is for. i hope you have figured this out by now.

    Not sure if it is balls or crazy to try a roof lift without giant skills. There are SO many things that are hard to do correctly. One thing... you bought the right activity buss with compartments below. Makor score there. Have seen 20 of these done... am looking forward to seeing your journey through it.... sometimes wincing... lol.

    To answer some questions: Yes! We do know how to work a sawzall now! Right up against the metal equals no bouncing. No- we don’t regret the way we did our roof raise! It was the easiest way we could possibly do it with virtually no materials. Next time I am going to put more wood underneath the jacks for a slighter higher lift! Also, we used a lot of self tappers during this phase of easing the roof so I highly recommend have several boxes near by!

    I would have thought that he would have figured out after two minutes of cutting with the saw jumping around that it would cut effortlessly if he would have just sat it down instead of trying to hold it up away from the roof and the post...

    Thanks for the video. Were the screws you used in the braces temporary? Unless you know the exact shear strength of those screws, I'd be very concerned about using them alone.

  • @kurtisblow3650
    @kurtisblow36503 жыл бұрын

    This should be welded. I don't think those small self tapping screws are going to stand up to the flexing of the body caused by bumps, pot holes and driving over uneven ground. I'd be seriously concerned about them snapping from normal driving, let alone an impact. If they don't snap from stress, the holes will eventually become enlarged from the flexing. If they were going to be bolted (which I would never recommend) at the very minimum, grade 8 bolts with lock washers and a lot of locktight should be used. Those supports were a single continous piece all the way around the bus for a very important reason.

    Amazing work, by far the best instructional video I have found on doing a skoolie roof raise! How long did it take you guys to pull off the roof raise? How many people do you need to do this properly?

  • @BohoWandering

    @BohoWandering

    3 жыл бұрын

    We needed three people. Even having a fourth person for back up would have been good. The raise itself took all morning and afternoon into the 6pm hour lol we had gotten the majority of the metal up by then enough for it to be left alone for the night and hold up the roof on its own. And thank you!!! For the compliment! Appreciate that. It was by far the only way for us to be able to raise our roof. Simplest way.
