Hmm. Have you done the volvo head swap? This was a feat in engineering and we are very proud to have been the first to have succeeded. Sorry you may not like our approach, but it is true to the car's legacy. Have a 2.3l in another car and this 2.0l is awesome, quicker, good fuel mpg. Besides, this swap earned 2 magazine articles! Thanks for watching.

I did the 2.3 liter Volvo head swap about 8 or 9 years ago in a Mercury Capri RS. The car won best of show and the celebrity pick at the all Ford Nationals at Carlisle PA. I thought I was first. I used a world class T5 worked Transmission bolted to it. the car is a beast. look up Phil Marshalls burning the Dyno on you tube. That motor is the motor that the Volvo head was placed on nine years ago. You can find the Capri RS in the All Ford Nationals at Carlisle. It belongs to Thomas Smith and I have the pictures!

Just to catch up from the past couple of years. Couldn't post on our own youtube! We used the 2.0l because at the time the new 2.3l didn't exist. It was introduced just after our build! Argh! Did not do a volvo head because we did not have a period 2.3l available at the time and decided to explore the modern direct injected 4 cylinder to keep true to the SVO heritage. We are running a t5 transmission, but hope to upgrade to a modern 6 speed in the future. Just autocrossed for the first time and had a blast! (Sorry no video) Fun ride. Thanks for all the interest!

It is a vintage air set up. The factory compressor for FWD doesn’t fit for motor mounts for k member. Used a vortec supercharger pulley and modified it to fit factory pulley. Strictly size fitmet adaptation.

Very interesting swap!...does any one remember the Pinto based Pangra from the 70's? I this 2.0L Ecoboost engine from the newer Focus ST would make a great swap with a bigger Turbo as well! I too like the Mercury Merkur xr4ti!...I think the 2015+ Mustang EcoBoost 2.3L turbo engine would be a good swap for that car as well as the SVO Mustangs of the 80's!...God Bless!

VinylToVideo that 4 banger is pushing 300hp.. and a fair bit lighter than a coyote, the car probably pushes 25-30 mpg too.. personally I would have preferred a 2.3 ecoboost for the step up in power as well as a trans from a toasted stang.. but this is a cool build regardless

Okay, so the 2.0l has a not so nice looking boss for the front engine boss when installed for it's originally intended Focus ST. The bar is our way of masking the mount and "resembling" a brace, with no intention of it actually performing the function.

Ok Crazy, yes you should be able to drop a 2.0/2.3 right in there! Check your firewall! If it has a recess into the interior, you may not have to modify if to clear the fuel & vacuum pumps!

Just4banger, sorry you don't like our build. We built the car for a daily driver and at the time did not have an SVO motor. Thought a meld of old and new for fuel economy and an increase over stock HP was the perfect fit for us. If you need another 2.3 SVO engine you would like to build we have 2 now you could buy from us. Thanks for watching!

I would consider this but at this point there are several single over head 2.3 liters between 500 and 900 HP which I was told Jon Huber reached although the only dyno video I've seen is between 700 and ,800 HP so what is the benefit changing to the newer engine ? is power upgrades easier to find ? I'm running 360 HP with just a few bolt on's on my 84 2.3 and that is without an intercooler which I have but has not been installed yet and I'm running E85 for fuel . but going to a dual overhead cam is something I like the idea of but don't want to modify a Volvo head to do it. so how well has this worked ? and what are the pluses and minuses .....oh and to the guy who said why not put in a 5.0 swing by saint Louis and Jon Huber will glad!y show you why not he has beaten blown big blocks and plenty of ,5.0s although his 2.3 has been bored to a 2.7 I believe

I very highly doubt your at anything over 245-250 hp with an original 1984 2.3 which was 175 hp stock, LoL 360 hp, pls... BTW, my brother was on the original SVO Group Team from late 1982 to 1990. Mustang SVO being 84'-86' I personally had two different test makes from mid 1982 till on sale in late 1983 as an 84'.... The 85.5 Model had the most hp, at 205, while the 86' had 200..... We got our 86' upto about 270-280 hp with 5 high level bolt ons and a cam, 93 octane gas.

William, you'll have to notch the firewall to clear the external fuel pump and vacuum pump. Custom motor mounts. Will need a transmission mount modification. Depending on your transmission may need to customize driveshaft. You'll also need the Ford control pack for engine management. Any other questions?
