1994 Dodge Neon | Motoring TV Classics
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
On the surface it seemed like a no brainer. Here was a fun drive that was priced to sell. It looked like a recipe for success. Sadly, it proved to be more that a little rough around the edges. Over the next few years the Neon was massaged to the point where most of the suspension components had been replace. At the end of the exercise, it was the car it should have been in the first place. It will never be one to remember, but it was basic transportation. Hindsight, says a little too basic.

It's been a long time since I've heard 'Chrysler' and 'homerun' mentioned in the same sentence! And this Neon may have been a homerun in terms of sales, but it certainly wasn't in terms of build quality/reliability.

I have to completely disagree with you My sister had the first generation neon Not only once but twice first time a Toyota Corolla ran out in front of her The Corolla was totaled her neon wasn't she ended up buying another neon after that That thing lasted until the alternator died It was way over 14 years old and still running I had a second generation neon never left me stranded ever minimal work water pump timing belt changes spark plugs brakes and oil and transmission fluid that's it I disagree with you completely! I own a Toyota and let me tell you what my neon was way better built than my Toyota would ever think of being my first and last Toyota I'll ever buy!
Almost anything will seem good when it's brand new.
It’s such a shame the quality was lacking because these cars were so fun to drive.

They were kinda quick back in the day
I have a 2005 Dodge Neon and I’ve put 7gs into it with a 2.4 Turbo & Manual swap, Rear Power Windows, a Euro Chrysler Neon front end swap, coilovers, Leather interior, aftermarket Sunroof that slides inward(Less Rear Headroom) , rear defuser, LED Head & Taillights, Apple CarPlay Radio/Screen, Brace Bars, 19” Rims & Dual Exhaust. I Love that Car
Wow ! .. a noted feature is the Kleenex holder in the centre console ! 😂
This was quite popular car in Europe, as for US made car obviously.
In the right hands, these are reliable, fun cars. Find a DOHC 5-speed, and take it down a twisty mountain highway - that's where these cars shine.
Man I miss the dodge neon
Just imagine this Neon With A SRT-4 or better yet a Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart 2.0 Turbo with a 5 spd manual
I have seen old 80,s Toyotas, Nissan and Honda on the roads but haven’t seen any dodge neons over 20 years on the road!?

You either live in Cali or any place that has no salt, cuz any 80's vehicle (unless its stored in the winter) in my area will already be rotted out
Watching old MotorWeek and Motoring reviews really makes me wanna sell my Mazda 6 and go out and buy something from the 90's. I hate the styling of pretty much every new car, Mines a 2013 and i don't even really like the styling of anything about it.

I feel the same about my 2013 kia rio (thought abt trading it in and get an optima but idk), but imo Kia is the only modern car brand that doesnt look bland to me, especially since they introduced their signature tiger nose grille. The 2011-2015 optima (despite its engine issues/recalls) is still one of the most beautiful modern cars I've seen.
The old dodge knees on...knees on the dash the inside was so small.

? Pretty roomy for a car of its size.
Wife bought this brand new in 1995
Yves Landry died at an early age few years after this interview...
The Neon was a fantastic design and looked good on paper, but it was a very poor quality execution. The quality and reliability were not there. Typical of American cars of the time. All style, little substance.
The Dodge/Plymouth neon Twins would have been Considered To be Very basic and largely forgettable little cars in recent automotive history if it wasn't for the fact that they became The punch lines of many jokes Because of their Reputations for being so Poorly made And those poor suckers who got stuck buying them will never forget what a nightmare their ownership experiences were. Comparing them to the Saturn SL and Toyota Corolla Is pretty insulting considering that there are still old SLs and Over 67% of 1993 - 1997 Corollas Still on the road today. I haven't seen a first generation Dodge/Plymouth neon Here in Miami in at least 10 years

I still daily drive my 1999 Plymouth Neon Expresso. Never had any major problems and she’s fun to drive!
After many years ... We can Say the this was not a good car!
Poorly built not reliable vehicle plus very easy to steal
