Marspeed, problem with that is that the turbo supplier is in no way able to provide one for any FCA vehicles and that would be MITSUBISHI (now partially owned by Nissan). Yes, the SRT-4 is related to the Lancer Evolution, difference is Chrysler used the largest version (2.4L) of the OG World Engine (developed by Chrysler, Mitsubishi and Hyundai before the joint venture dissolved) with a lower turbo pressure (not to totally compete with the Lancer Evolution and its US-spec 290hp), while Mitsubishi used the smaller 2.0L and a higher turbo pressure.

They made half a million Tipos in the past three years, 70 percent of which were sold outside Italy (it was merely the 8th best selling car there). The steering column would also catch fire if you tried using the right turn signal specifically. So glad I don't have that car anymore lol. Though, the later years of the first gen were good cars like this video mentioned. '00-'03 were the best years for the 2nd gen, especially because the automatic trans at the time was still the 3 speed and that thing is way more reliable than the 4 speed it came with afterwards.

I sold the Neon in 1993, 1994, & 1995 (yes, the car did come out in late 1993 as a '95 model, later, I believe, the early versions were called the 2004.5). At the time, it was a very nice, well equipped "throw away" car (meaning it wasn't a vehicle that would last forever like, say, a BMW 3-Series)(think about how many Neons you still see on the road, and how many 3-Series you come across that are still running and looking top notch). The 1990's Chrysler products were a bit of a renaissance for the manufacturer, hence the reason I decided to sell them. Cab forward was new, and made their cars extremely roomy and a delight to drive. The Dodge Intrepid, Eagle Vision, and Chrysler Concorde, and a year later, the LHS and New Yorker (all "LH Cars") were truly amazing vehicles at the time. I personally have owned 1 Vision Tsi, 2 New Yorkers, and 5 LHS over the years, so obviously, the made a good impression on me. It also was easier to sell a car that I knew and owned... I "believed" in the product. The Neon came out a bit before the Chrysler Cirrus and Dodge Stratus (and later, the Plymouth Breeze)(the latter 3 cars were considered the 'benchmark' for that segment of car... besting the Accord and Camry at the time). Neons sold like hot cakes. They were easy to drive, park, ride in, insure, and to some degree, look at. But we started seeing them come in soon after a customer would buy one with miscellaneous problems like fitment issues, leaking around the tops of the door/window (the doors were frameless at the top) and wet trunk space. The paint (on all products from Chrysler in that time...didn't present till several years down the road) was terrible with peeling clearcoat being the most common problem. A/C compressors weren't powerful enough to cool the car for extended periods, and head gaskets were problematic. I did not sell the 2nd generation Neon as I "got out of the business" for something that was more profitable and took less of my time... no more 12-14 hour, 6 days a week jobs for me! I'm not sure how well they held up, but my Uncle does have a 2001 model SXT that he bought second hand... one that had been wrecked and not fixed well, but that starts up and gets him to work problem free, so who knows. Hope my 'testimony' gives you some insight on the Neon or was at least entertaining to some degree lol! And Marspeed, how about some video info on the LH cars by Chrysler or maybe on the '84-92 Lincoln Mark VII, '90-97 Town Car, the entire Cadillac lineup, the '96-02 and '03-07 MB E-Class, or the Volvo 850/S70/V70??? (Just wanted to suggest a few cars I like...wink wink! LOL!). Thanks for posting!

My wife leased a 1995 in April of 1994 when she was in college. I begged her to buy a Toyota Corolla. After a year of driving the car she wished she had. The Neon was plagued with mechanical problems. Head gasket was one of them. Today she drives a 2015 Toyota Sienna.

@@datdatonabeat3252 the frustrating thing is, the next gen Charger has already been designed and built, or at least a prototype concept has been. It was shown off at the 2015 FCA dealer's show which was an invite only show. All media devices were confiscated at the door. A guy in our LX club works for FCA corporate and saw the car along with many automotive journalists. It is said the car resembles a cross between the current Charger, the 1999 concept and a BMW 7 series. Another member in our club saw it and his exact words were, "Just saw the next gen Charger, you guys are gonna love it!"

I AM NUMBER 4 yeah FCA has been pretty quiet lately since they rebranded and refreshed their whole lineup back in 2011. They just been shoving the hellcats, demon and ram in our face. And slowly killed the rest of the cars. Chrysler isn’t currently producing anything but the Pacifica. The 200 is gone and 300 is on its way out the door. I guess because trucks and SUVs are the main focus in the US market right now but why keep feeding us the charger and challengers then? Idk lol

@@datdatonabeat3252 they're niche cars, they can charge a premium for it. Fiat is doing the same in Italy: its line-up is languishing and old models on the way out aren't getting replaced, but they make 2 or 3 niche sporty models. When Marchionne died I hoped Fiat would change its course, but it doesn't seem the case.

I use to own a 1995 Neon and it ran pretty good when I drove it from Southern California to Northern Nevada. The only real problem I had with it was when I had to replace the spark plug wires. At first I thought it was the fuel pump the reason why it had low power but other than that it ran great until I got into an accident with it....they should come out with this but in pure electric form if they are going to keep the hp low to save more money. I can see this being a bargain as easier to obtain for people that want to own a pure electric vehicle without paying Tesla prices. Personally I think I would go with the Mitsubishi Mirage that can get up to 55mpg and cost around $10,000 with 10 years of warranty. And the Mirage comes in Hatchback and sedan form.

Bought a 96 highline sedan new. Honestly, worst cat I've ever owned. Everything failed except oddly enough the a/c and auto trans. My paint didn't peel, but it did rust badly in the lower door seams as well as the dog leg in frt of the rear wheels. The doors rusted out from the insides due to poor window seals, which they never could get to fit right. I had constant problems with the rear brakes as well, until I found out about a TSB which changed the semi metallic shoes to organic 1s. That finally fixed the noise and rear lock up tendencies when wet. I got rid of it with just over 100k on it. We got an 07 after that, and it was a much better car, though didn't handle as well as the 96 did, and was slower... Used more fuel too. I'm glad you pointed out the the 16 and up Neons sold overseas is not a scaled down Dart/200. It's a completely different platform with completely different drivetrains. I doubt they will be sold here, as it cost FCA so much $ to meet our EPA emissions and crash tests for the Dart/200, that as you pointed out previously, FCA barely made a dime on them. I can't see FCA trying that experiment again and losing so much. I don't mind the look of it though, and it seems to have the features 1 would expect from a basic small sedan. BUT when 1 puts them up against the long history of reliability from Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla , Fiat falls flat. Simple truth.

I had a 95 Highline sedan and a 2003 SXT, the only new car I've ever bought for myself. I loved my neons! If FCA brought back a neon I would be very likely to buy it! Like any compact, the issue is all the weight you have to add to make the stupid car qualify for the US market. If they could just import the car with the Hurricane motor when it comes online, it could be a success for little investment.

Chrysler knows that for a compact car to sell well and compete with the best competition, Honda, Toyota, etc it will have to be just plain SPECTACULAR. It will have to be damn near perfect with class leading, RELIABLE powertrains, modern styling, options customers want, and at a competitive price.

I think FCA should bring the new neon to North America but do not use those engine choices. I think they should use the 1.3 L turbo engine from the new jeep renegade. That engine is surprisingly powerful and it would make this car very fun to drive. Overall I really like the styling of it, I think it’s a very good looking car and I think the srt4 probably isn’t a good idea because they should price the car lower then most cars in its class and market it towards first time new car buyers and College and university graduates to sell a good amount of them. I think they should also have an optional all wheel drive just in case you live in an Area they gets harsh winters. The car needs to have a bunch of different radio and stereo options to appeal to the younger buyers because a lot of younger people love to drive their cars while listening to music. I do believe this car would sell extremely well in North America.
