6:41 this is when the resin balls hit the scene and changed shit forever. Traber and Bo both talk about it.

That was funny when Parker Bohn III said "I'll keep this trophy away from Pete Weber." 😅. Of course, he was referring to the time when Pete Weber held up his (Pete's) trophy of an eagle up in the air, and he (Pete) dropped it. The eagle shattered.

I use to work at Squaw Peak in the late 80's. We had 3000 weekly league bowlers for a 48 lane house. That bowling center no longer exists. I do not know why but I assume it was because they raised prices so high for a house with no computer bowling. It was $3.25 for league bowlers in 1989 per game. They were raising the price every year by at least .25 cents. How you can go from 3000 league bowlers to nothing now is incredible. After league on saturday 6pm league. We had a full house with 20+ groups on a waiting list. How do you loose all that?????

Back in the day, I never did care much for the "King of the Hill" format.

@@stephenkochanski6952 I agree. When they started shifting away from the traditional stepladder format, it felt like it was the beginning of the end.

Bo can't stand anyone doing well. His severe personality disorder comes through alot in this way...asking pointed, rude questions, making disparaging comments. Now that its been pointed out, you see he does it ALOT.

No backboards were broken in the making of this video and no pins were subjected to the "Shaq Attaq".

Were the PBA’s television ratings starting to become a concern by the 1993 season? Was the King of the Hill format meant to be gimmick to try and shore up the ratings? During the last four seasons that ABC hosted the PBA (1994-97), they had the occasional arena finals. That was certainly meant to be a gimmick. The arena finals were often huge scorefests, which meant that they clearly put easier oil patterns on the lanes. I didn’t care for the arena finals. After the PBA left ABC the gimmicks continued. Constant crowd noise was used during the 1998 and 1999 seasons. I believe gold colored pins were used from 1999-2000. The first outdoor TV finals round was held in New York City during the 1999 season. That was reportedly a financial disaster. Finally in 2000 the tour used eight man TV finals with matches 1 through 3 featuring three man shootouts. The final match would feature the traditional two player format.

I reckon you're pretty well on the money there. I think by the time the 90s began the PBA's rating were starting to slowly decline as the years went on and they started coming up with all manner of gimmicks to try and arrest the decline. I think that TV viewers tastes had changed somewhat and the PBA still had a stuffy and conservative image that they tried to gradually move away from. I would also think the increase in cable networks, the absence of relatable "stars" that captured the viewers attention like the Dick Webers, Earl Anthonys, Mark Roths, Marshall Holmans in the game's heyday didn't help things. The game's biggest star in the 90s was Walter Ray Williams Jr and as great a bowler as he is, he has the personality of an AI narrator. Pete Weber, also one of the greatest of all time had the personality of an angry suburban white trash dude and that never won viewers over either. TV viewers had more choices and bowling wasn't locked in that captive market like it once was in and they were somewhat forced to try different things to keep up, instead it ended up rather cringey and the different formats just never worked. Also, I believe NBC canned their Fall Tour coverage after the 1991 season so it would be a fair bet to say TV ratings were on a pretty large decline by then.
