1990s Basketball Card Inserts Highly Sought by Collectors Today
Ойын-сауық
In the 1990s, inserts were the thing in basketball cards. Collectors eagerly awaited opening a pack to find out what unique insert card they would pull, and when trading with friends, inserts were the highlight of any offer. Eventually, card companies went a little bit crazy with this trend, and eventually it fell out of popularity. But there are still a number of insert sets from the 1990s that are still highly sought be collectors today. In this video, we will take a look at some of the highlights.

1993-94 Ultra 🏀 basketball change the game in inserts ! The MJ scoring kings insert is still my fave card of all time!

I loved 93-94 ultra as a kid and love it even more as an adult. I really miss some of the inserts from that era. The insert game of today could learn something from then.
Pulled a Jordan Hooperstars out of NBA hoops retail. Still remember that, they were 1:288 I believe.
I don’t know how I found your channel but I’m glad I did!

Love these inserts. Modern day inserts just rarely ever are as cool.
Could have made a 45 minute video on this topic mate! As the Panini stuff goes into pricing and parallel hyper-drive I find myself delving back into the 90s inserts. Looking back you can see how almost all the innovation in modern day cards came from this era. 90s were innovators not replicators! From the sets mentioned i have a couple of Beam Teams, die cut all-stars, one or two lower tier Cut Aboves, ton of fist year autographics and just the one UD Game Jersey - Antoine Walker - now there's a name from the 90s!

I absolutely agree with you. The 90's may have overdone it with inserts a bit, but when it hit that sweet spot, the cards were just phenomenal. I am actually super annoyed by the color parallel explosion nowadays. I even find myself missing out on good card flipping opportunities here and there just because I really don't want to look at another obscure random color parallel. I have a few Beam Teams too, but I think only one or two from 92-93, most are from 93-94 (I think! But they are in a box in my parent's attic at the moment). I used to aim a lot for those die cut all-stars, they were one of my favorites. My very favorite card I owned for a long time was my Nick Van Exel card in that set, as I had a pretty good collection of his cards and always aimed for him. By the time the Autographics and Game Jersey cards came about, I had already begun my couple decade absence from the hobby.

@@scoa Two decades is a long time to miss out on! The proliferation of jersey cards, UD losing its license and going college only, the rise of hobby packs (and when they stopped printing congratulations on the back of cards!) and the last printing of many well known brands like Fleer, Topps and co.

@@dwayneskinner7315 It absolutely was a long time to leave the hobby. Definitely was a pretty big learning curve when I first got back in again. And I definitely missed out on some really cool goings on over the years. But in some ways, I'm glad I lost touch with the hobby for awhile, I think it made me love it even more once I got back to it again. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, as they say.
Wow, great and informative video 👌🏻 Subbed 👍🏼

PMG is not an insert. It’s a parallel. Beautiful cards!

You're right. My bad on that. Thanks for the catch.
You have the wrong pack odds for the a cut above. It’s actually 1:2880 packs
@scoa

I just went and double-checked. It actually is 1:288 packs like I said in the video. Your number is the odds of any one specific player from in that set- there were 10 cards in the set, so the odds of pulling any specific one of them would be 1:2880 packs.
Chasing the 90s inserts is now a rich persons game.

For many of them, definitely. The timing of this comment is kinda funny because tomorrow I actually will be dropping a video with 10 of my favorite cheap 90s inserts, I think you'll like that one.
