It's so fascinating to see the fall Richmond race with this look run in the light of day, considering only three of them were held (1991 was the first time it was at night).

Well....after watching the last 8 Richmond races at the OLD track i gotta admit that THIS track was a no brainer. State of the aet

A few more notes... I remember Rusty calling Geoff Bodine a "conehead" after that wreck. Without that finish, he would have had enough points to beat Bill Elliott for the championship (Elliott beat Rusty by 24). And Mike Alexander was injured in a race during the off-season. He would run the '89 Daytona 500, but Dick Trickle would take over the 84 car at Rockingham (Richmond, the second race, was postponed by a month due to a snowstorm) and eventually win Rookie of the Year.

Bodine slowed. You could see the smoke from dale hitting the brakes. Drivers put their hand up in the car like that when they slow to let the guys behind know they are braking hard. That's part of the reason they put a stop to the window tint they did briefly in this era.

After the first lap crash with Richard Petty, Lake Speed's Olds looked like it was early auditioning for Days of Thunder. Half its front spoiler was missing, there went a fender, there goes a quarter panel. I wonder if his crew chief Darrell Bryant kicked the door because he didn't want his mechanics spoiled like Harry Hogge (Robert Duvall) did in the movie?
