The quality of driving compared to today is amazing. Today the majority of the field would be wrecked out half way through.

Big thanks to you for puttin this for us all to see it. Seeing the starting positions and the guys who have left us is both sad to think that theyre gone and gives me a smile from ear to ear to see them doing what they loved and did best. It wasnt seeing Davey, Sr., Special K or Neil that made me that way. It was Row 14, Slick and JD. Rest in peace boys. Rest in peace.

Easy to see Dale had a fender under Sterling at the Bristol race, and Sterling didn't hold his line and turned down on Dale going into the corner.

I watched this live in the second grade in 1987 I remember that lol. I miss old broadcasts less BS opinions pre race crap commercials. Just plain racing and straight forward commentary

Is it just me or does Martinsville seem wider with these vintage races?. Plus inside wall seems wider with more grass.

Dale in victory lane is asked..If you were told you would win 6 out of the first 8 races to start the season, what would you say?.....It's possible😂😂😂

Poor Jeff, I think he had the win today and get spun out 2 races in a row!! He seemed awfully level headed about it with Kyle tho. I would've been hot, Kyle was like 6 laps down at the time too and this the final stint. Not the time or place for a battle like that. Great race.

Jerry Punch with the ole' stache. You could tell Earnhardt didn't like the interview before the race, and Sterling had that hat barely sitting on top of his head for the interview.

Welcome to the wonderful world of mid-80's "highlighted coverage" lol. SETN and Jefferson Pilot covered NASCAR races throughout the 80's, but they were never the full race, just edited hour long programs, unfortunately. Thank god that was over by 1989.

I remember this was one of the only ways to see several races during the mid-late 80's...our local syndicated stations would show these on Saturday afternoons...but they were only "highlights" and not full racing coverage....but it was better than nothing :)

Dale Earnhardt was always the worst interviews! He never had much to say! I'll say, it looked like he tried to back off when Marlin cut down to enter the corner, it was just too late, the 81 car took too high of a line!

Yeah yeah. Thats what todays NASCAR/ARCA drivers will tell you. Jeff Gordon too. Once youre able to read the print on a spinning 45/33 rpm record youre a racer as far as im concerned lol. Lake proved he could hang

I actually raced Karts against Lake back in the mid 70's, even managed to finish ahead of him a couple times, but I can testify as an eye witness, he was a great driver & infact "A CHAMPION" A many time National Champion & 78 World Champion 😉

@@Slinger43 nowadays I have been noticing that a quite a few of the kids with sponsors that get NASCAR rides backgrounds are kart related. Anyhow I was a HUGE fan and I’ve rewatched that Darlington win many, many times. In my view he had already proven himself by then and would have got his fair share if he had the right car under him. We’re the go cart tracks road courses? The sting of him taking over that #28 ride and not cashing in still stings

@@MrChristopherHaas Yes, all road courses for Sprint Karts, which is the type of Kart Lake won his 78 Title in. Occasionally we would race on oval tracks, usually a 1/8-1/4 mile paved, but those tracks were not Kart tracks. I know in today's Major League Auto Racing landscape, the majority of driver's started racing in Go-Kart's, but back in the day, that wasn't the case. Lake was, to my knowledge, the 2nd Karting Champion to make it to Big-Time Auto Racing, following Ricky Rudd, "The Rooster" had Won a National Championship in 75 in Enduro Karts (laid down driver position) which raced on the road courses inside of Major Speedways like Daytona, Talladega, Ontario ect...
