This may be the highest quality video of the vintage NASCAR races on the internet. Wish there were more old races that were this clear. Thanks NASCAR, please keep posting.

Bring it back... it needs to come back. Just like DW said in the 96 Broadcast for the last race.. "You can't keep taking and taking from the fans and the sponsors, you need to maintain a grass roots level of racing in this sport otherwise; you'll wake up one day and they'll be gone and our old friends won't be there" Point being you have to maintain what grew the sport in the first place, yes expansion is good and was needed but you can't turn your back on what got you there in the first place.

Can we also get some higher quality Cup races at Wilkesboro in the 2020s?

Uh NASCAR isn't gonna be in North Wilkesboro in 2020. Though they are thinking of saving the track as it is abandoned its not in the schedule.

Maybe they'll wisen up and return this decade. The NC general assembly recently agreed to pump money into the N Wilkesboro and Rockingham tracks for renovations.

The starting grid for this race reads like a list of Hall of Famers. Love it.

who ever worked on these 2020 replays - did an amazing job. i don't know if it's because my high end PC, or Vid card... but these replays look LIVE..and are simply amazing art..like it's being filmed today and we are back in time in 1987 at the running of the Winston Cup Holly Farms 400. frigin amazing and Thank You for your Art, and thank you to D.E.jr and iRacing for preserving this old girl. the tears i shed are for honor and with pride. Dale Sr would be ecstatic about this project of preserving Wilkesboro like IRacing and D Jr are doing. God Bless you all.

You need to do more of these NASCAR! The archives you have are extensive. I’m sure there’s broadcasts/coverage that haven’t even been seen before! There’s a big audience for these, you must surely realise this. I’m from the UK and love this. So I can imagine in the US, so many people would love this.

Much more enjoyable to watch than modern day P.C. Nascar that has sold it's soul and forgotten the folks in the south who made it was it was ...

The reason racing like this in the 80's and 90's was so good was because the cars were not stuck to the racetrack. People complain about "aero" affecting the cars, but back when this race was run there was no mention of "aero". That was because the cars all were true stock cars that sat at a normal height from the track surface. If Nascar wanted to eliminate aero it would be a very simple change to just raise the cars up off the track like they used to be. It would improve the quality of racing so much and it would make the cars depend on engine and horsepower instead of aerodynamics. I am sure every long suffering Nascar fan would love to see that happen.

Sorry to leave two comments on the same video but just want to point out how much better and more informative the broadcasts were back then.

This shows that old racing replays still have a good quality and 60fps but they look ugly because of cassettes or anything else that saves those replays, I love to see the full original quality and frame of classic racing replays.

you guys got any more races from the 80s hidden in a box like this with same film quality? youtubers have been uploading their VHS tapings for years but this is top grade material!

I always loved this track. I could see a full refurbishment of North Wtilkesboro with new stands and luxury boxes. Friday night or Saturday. Then do it again Sunday morning but invert the full field from the race before.

Love that you guys are doing this, but don’t love having the winner in the description. This race was before I was born so I wanted to watch and see who won without knowing first. Guess I’ll know that for these uploads in the future.

It’s incredible how legitimate racing was back in the day. In today’s NASCAR there would have been a caution with 13 to go for a slowing Ernie Ervin which got off the track and then it sets up manufactured drama overzealous Earnhardt puts Labonte in the wall and fans go crazy The guy who dominated all afternoon ends in a smoking heap SMH

Yes. This. Back then they let the race play out naturally. These days they can barely even get a flow going with the BS “stages” and cautions every time someone sneezes.

Hi guys, first thanks for bringing back these races from the past, it's just a gift, they've given me the chance to see Dale Earnhardt run again, I think it's very important to remember, for the NASCAR story to have all this digital racing material, and in this quality, thanks for bringing these races, there are some of the 70's, are incredible, if possible make this channel a digital racing museum. greetings to all the team that made this great material possible

My dad has memories of this race in 87, he was there! Broke his ankle after the race walking out. Lol This video makes me cry, I know that North Wilkesboro is just rotting away right now. I'm glad Jr cleaned it up for iRacing, but isn't there ANYONE who will totally renovate it?! Love you NASCAR!! Long time fan and go to multiple races every year!!

Keep doing upload every race you got. Every 90 race in order every 80 race in order. Every 00s race in order. Then some of the 70 races that still exist.

It's a little weird seeing the broadcasters "dial up" drivers all the way back in 1987. They could do that AND give proper attention to the starting line-up!

Haha Junior Johnson had lead in Terry’s right side tires. Since the first run was so long the lead conducted a bunch of heat an blew the front right tire 😂 listen how terry says the car got better after the car tapped the wall

Came here to say this. I just saw a Jimmy Means interview where he talks about it. Had lead in the tires so they could change tires and be lighter than everybody else on the first caution, but they ran too long and blew the tires. Ended up winning though and didn't get caught. You can tell Labonte's car looked funny they way he stopped when he blew the tires.

How about the complete 1987 season? 1989? Us fans like the older style of racing. It'd be good going back to North Wilkesboro or even Rockingham and do racing there today. 1987 was the year Earnhardt was winning everything in sight. 11 races won, including The Winston. And he won the championship.

89 was the first year that all races were broadcast.

So after seeing this , somebody within NASCAR must understand what once made it great seeing this got put on KZread….so with that said …WHY ARE YOU STILL SO OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE FANS THAT MADE THIS SPORT??….bring back southern marketing/branding , bring back the southern driver, and bring back the good southern tracks …and when all that comes back so will the fans, along with not having to worry about the corporate dollars you will be able to rely on fan money

This is so cool. I wasn't born quite yet I don't think. I was born on Sept 1987. I'm still a fan of Dale Earnhardt.

I watch this race, and while I do like the general aesthetics of these cars, is the racing from the 80s or before really that good. In this particular race, Terry Labonte and Dale Earnhardt were the only drivers to finish on the lead lap. It just didn't seem like there were as many competitive cars back then. Nowadays, we have plenty of cars that can compete just fine. As for North Wilkesboro, while I'm glad it's making a comeback for the All-Star race in a little over a month (as of this post), how much do we really need that track? It's close to Charlotte, Martinsville, and Bristol all of which have two races. I think that an exact replica of North Wilkesboro should be built either at the sight of Kentucky Speedway or Chicagoland. I know that NASCAR was largely localized to the Carolinas in the past, but ticket prices were also lower back then (even inflation adjusted). Therefore, it's necessary to have short tracks all over the U.S. that the NASCAR Cup Series visits, not just in one region.

Post these oldies on your website a monitor the click traffic there as well.

I dont know how realistic it is but has NASCAR ever looked into doing a WWE Network kind of thing? Putting all your archives that you can on a streaming service. I'd pay whatever you wanted for that and I'm sure others would as well.

@@firethestooges48 declaring it dead is stupid. Is it struggling with cost, revenue, attendance, ratings.....yes. But it is still racing - hell I would rather spend a Sunday afternoon watching racing than just about anything else. Could be F1, Indycar......but NASCAR tends to be the most interesting and I been watching since the 70s. If you don't watch - why bother to comment. If you don't like something - tell us what it is - don't just say it's dead. It ain't....still on TV every week. BTW alot of sports are struggling - times change and so do people's interest. NASCAR has and will change too - probably don't need all the touring series anymore. I suspect ARCA/K&N/Trucks will merge into one series eventually with some regional focus for teams that can't run all the races.
