It's funny how this track was taken off the schedule to make room for bigger tracks with more fans, and 20+ years later the plan backfired and now this little track had more fan turnout than most races on the schedule today.

Backfired? The added a track with more than triple the capacity during the highest grossing age of nascar. Then continued to sell the replacement race out for another 10 years. It was def the right choice, at the time. As we flow back into short tracks, don't think this will last forever either. The next spike will see the same thing happen again. It is a business after all.

Finally sat down and watched this event flag to flag and no wonder it was so popular amazing track. No wonder nascar was so popular in the 90s absolutely amazing racing. Nascar today has lost its way we’ve all known that for some time. But after watching this event I don’t know if I can suffer threw this Sunday’s “NASCAR” race the sport today is hollow and missing so much.

This is such a good comment. I honestly think that Bob Jenkins, Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett were a huge reason for NASCAR's growth. They felt like family. Everything about 80s and 90s NASCAR is superior to what we have today.

What I do know is that people in that area LOVE auto racing, way more than any other market. You want to see a packed grand stands NASCAR? Come back to North Wilkesboro!

Dear NASCAR: Take 1 race from some lesser sales-performing track in the annual line-up and create a "Heritage" race that rotates between some of these old tracks. Just think, we could see races at N. Wilkesboro, Rockingham Speedway, Nashville Fairgrounds, and maybe even Myrtle Beach Speedway in a 3 or 4 year rotation. Contract with track owners and townships to assist in initially prepping the tracks and promoting the races. Imagine the turnout those races would get, the TV ratings they'd bring with all of their history. I'm from Rockingham, and I can tell you, we're dying to see something of worth happen with our track. One true NASCAR Cup race every 3 to 4 years would be unfathomably better than what we have now. Please, before these tracks become like Texas World Speedway, Nazareth, Trenton, or Ontario. They're not dead yet. They can be revived. They can be a part of NASCAR's future while reminding us of it's glorious past.

Actually Marcus Smith of Camping World is investing $1B in this facility and putting a small Camping World site adjusent to the facility. So this COULD be back on NASCAR’s schedule by 2024 or 2025 at the earliest. (I would imagine it would take 3+ years to renovate everything, redoing the concessions and bathrooms, tearing out the old bucket seats and replacing them with the modern era seats, replacing the asphalt on the track, updating the sponsor billboards, rebuilding the media center and First Aid station, replacing the old press boxes with new ones, adding SAFER barriers and new catch fencing, rebuilding the old building outside turn 3, removing any unused or unnecessary seats and rebuilding the garage areas)

@@ale99bigsoos23 NASCAR didn't know it would decline to where it was now... mostly because Brian France was the one to tear it all up. NASCAR knew that Texas would be one of the most popular for 10+ years, and it was. The decline was Brian's fault, not the track. If NASCAR didn't have Mr. Drunken France, we'd probably think Texas was a smart, somewhat controversial decision, not a failed plan of expansionism.
