I remember 2 things about Jeff Alm from that year - His ability to knock down passes and a Sports Illustrated writer's comment on his talent in the Miami game. "Jeff Alm and those damn long arms..." (paraphrase since I don't recall the next part definitively) "knocked down another pass." To that point I had saved every Sports Illustrated since ~ 1975, but I was getting tired of a growing anti ND sentiment. If you don't believe it, delete any reference to who actually won the game and read that article - you would be convinced ND, who led the whole way and by 2 TD in the 1st half, had gotten whupped....I cancelled my subscription.

To add to Michael Kraus' point below....how about Keith Jackson at 3:10, DURING THE PLAY (a huge one at that), urging that Rice stepped on the back line but the refs "didn't see it", when his foot wasn't within five feet of the back line. Wishful thinking by Jackson, really wanted those two points for USC I guess. Broadcasting is just like written journalism....you make mistakes when you WANT something to be true. Jackson wanted that to be true, and was badly mistaken.

ND beat a lot of gr8 teams in 88, Miami, USC, Michigan. But West Virginia was NOT one of them.

Jackson was obviously confused. Rice's foot hits the back of the painted USC logo, which as you said, is about 5 feet from the actual back line. I liked Keith Jackson, but it was obvious he had a dislike for Notre Dame.

@@blacksabfan Here's another example of an odd call by Jackson during a Notre Dame play. he corrected himself fairly quickly, but he disturbed his own call of a game winning field goal by prematurely pointing out a penalty that wasn't occuring.....kzread.info/dash/bejne/qGmrl9hxgri9qpc.html

And om Smagala's interception, he called it incomplete. Jackson disliked ND.
Keith literally just hated ND so much he never even tried to pronounce players’ names. I hated listening to his voice. Not only that he literally can see that Rice was 5-6 in front of the end line and STILL said, “he stepped on the back of the end zone.” Such a horribly biased commentator.
3:09 Steps on the back of the endzone????? I can see how he made that mistake, but he was 2 yards away

J a kson was a west coast guy. So he made a couple of bad calls. They guy did NBA,NCAA MLB, championship games. Always loved him doing sec and old swc games. That would be Southwest conference . Tex,Tex tech,Tex am, Houston, rice, Baylor, smu,TCU, always forget last Tex team. And Arkansas. Anyway. Loved him calling Texas a&m . They had a back Bubba Bean. Lester Hayes played on that team 75 76. Hayes was a 200lb inside lb.

He didn’t make a good call the entire game. He was biased and it was obvious he hated ND. He INTENTIONALLY mispronounced the ND QB name every year. Or just made up a story that didn’t relate to the reality. Listen to him say “MY-ruh all you want. He wasn’t “making a few bad calls,” he was intentionally making bad calls bc of his bias.

Why not show the second half of the SC ND 1974 game?? Much better

Why don’t you change channels you coward? We destroyed you last year , wasn’t even a game ca LOB tossed 3 picks before half , Notre dame drew up the blueprint to stop cryleb, he lost 6 of last 7, never won a bowl game, cried like a baby to mommy after losing to Washington, sat on the bench drinking water as Utah walked down the field for game wining field goal, go watch the lack 12 network, oh that’s right that lame conference went out of business lmao
As a lifelong Trojan hater. I feel bad for their fans. The least talented squad I have seen from a great progam. Like Gerry Faust .
USC played like crap. Didn't even show up. Such a disappointing game if the century.
Peete is WAY overrated. He always loses in the big game. He's incompetent, weak, and stupid.
