So glad they put the Go-Go's success in the proper context in which it should be viewed. It matters not so much as whether you liked them or not, but rather what their success did, which was to open the doors to not only 50% of the human population to a legitimate career option but also opened the doors to alternative music. People either forget or do not know what these women actually accomplished . that fact that the alternative music bible CMJ ( College Music Journal) voted their debut album the most important album for the decade 1979 to 1989, beating ( among others) R.E.M. , U2, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Living Colour, and many more speaks volumes. What the CMJ judges gave as their reasoning was incredibly insightful, they said "think what you may now about the Go-Go's, but remember, without them, you wouldn't be hearing half of what you are listening to today". And the fact that they did this on a minor label, as a band of untrained musicians, and most importantly as females in a ( before them) male dominated field is even more unbelievable and remarkable.

Let's not forget two more women. Olivia Newton-John was at her pinnacle with "Physical" in '81. Many saw this as her getting "badder" as well. Also, Irene Cara had just come off a starring role in "Fame" the year before and taped a pilot for her own sitcom "Irene" that year. Although that bombed and was never picked up as a series. So there's two more female acts they forgot.

REO's "Hi Infidelity" was a GREAT album. The BEST-SELLING ALBUM OF 1981 - '81, the TITLE of this episode, and with a TYPICAL SNUB from the media, they only get 20 seconds of the whole program. You know, there's a REASON that the most successful radio stations now are those that feature '70s, '80s music. Can you imagine a station promoting "the best of the '90s"? After they played 5 or 6 songs, what would they do? Cut to a car dealership live remote?

No mention of Rush “Moving Pictures”?? Most successful album of the band’s amazing career. They spend more time fixated on corporate schlock-rock and girl groups than one of the most talented group’s in history :-(
