I had a 1980 turbo T/A, in '89&'90, in high school BUT no turbo. My dad bought it for me to drive to school. 2 barrel 301 naturally aspirated wasn't fast. It was so cool. I worked for months to get those t-tops to stop leaking. It had been resprayed maroon red. Mine had the red interior which I cannot find anywhere on youtube. I LOVED THAT CAR SO MUCH. Thank you for filming a clean unmolested version. The dash was best of any muscle car.

I just picked up a 1980 Turbo SE Bandit Edition with T-Tops. It's all original with just under 30,000 miles. It belonged to a family member so I have the complete history and am amazed at the rarity of this car in this condition, they only made 3444.

after i bought a new '79 T/A. i went to the dealership for service and seen this color combo and the Indy pace-car. i was in love with it at first sight. i knew it was a lot slower, but the way it looked was fabulous. always wanted one, though the hood bird seen here is an '81. great video.

Black and gold has always been a very sexy combo, especially on the '66 Hertz Mustangs. Gotta love it. Gorgeous car!

Everytime I see this car I think of the movie Robot Jox , the black paint with the gold pinstriping makes me think of the black robot from that movie.

I agree completely, black and gold really look great together....and the 66 Hertz GT350 is one of my all-time favorite cars.

'79 to '81 is the coolest looking trans am models. Black is the best color and only color i would want for any trans am.

Same with the Z28s...1980 & 1981 were the only years with the "air induction" hoods...and Z28s BEST years IMO.

Hey Jeff! This was one of my all time favorite early Firebirds and my favorite package and color. I did end up later with a new one like Jordan's. the stripping is perfect and that's amazing. My '86 was starting to come off after 5 trips to the car wash, and not the automatic car wash. I was SOOO upset. Just beautiful Jeff! Can't wait for the specs. ;)

Beautiful car! I own a 1980 nonTurbo 305 as an original owner but repainted it black. Bought in Calif but now I'm in PA and the car is garaged. Some of my friends had Turbos but they had problems with them after purchasing and it was an expensive repair. Maybe they improved them.

Hopefully I can afford one in a few years.

I've been tossing around the idea of putting gold GT stripes on the side of a black '66 Mustang Coupe. They never offered GT stripes in that color so it would look pretty unique in my opinion.

For some reason the TA has an 81' hood bird and sail panel birds, 80' had a five multi color bird..fyi

i love trans am and my dad gave me his 1978 trans am se with hurst t tops but those motor on the windows way a ton had to get new doors for it

My dad let me drive his, I am only 13 though so I couldnt take it out of the parking lot (Until august that is) Man they are fun to drive :D

the car your viewing is an 1981 , i base this on the facts that 1981 is the only year that has the speakers counter sunk into the dash . and it also has the propper 81 bird on the hood , but does have the 80 pattern in the seat material

Yeah, the late 70's- early 80's were definitely some sad times as far as horsepower goes. Everything was terribly detuned. It doesn't take much to wake them up though.

I guess they preferred the look of the 81 bird.

I'd bet the turbo lag on that thing is insane.

All it needs is t-tops and a cb radio.other than that a very beautiful car
