My sole ambition was the ownership of such a beast iam now 70 and still hopping

I had one of these, Y84 'Black Special Edition' 5.0 4-Spd, T-roofs, Camel Tan interior. 1 of 942. I had no facility or storage where I could put it during Maine's winters, so I sold it to a co-worker with family in the auto body/transmission/engine sectors. He sent some pictures about a year later and I could'a cried it was so beautiful. At least it didn't die from corrosion, but I wish I still owned it.

God those t-tops are gorgeous and the car to.

I have actually never seen a 5.0 T/A in this body style. I've always seen the 301 turbocharged or 400 cars. Nevertheless I'd sure take it.

This TA was sold a couple years ago.

tell you what, I am a big fan of the 455 TA. but I must admit that small block is beautifull!!!, is that a Pontiac motor or a chevy, cause the shaker hood says 5 liter, that yr bird was a 4.9 liter.

Think that is the Chevy 305 optioned T/A.

The only way you could get a 4-Spd trans in a T/A that year was to opt for the 5.0 'corporate' engine option [Chevy].

The 5.0 only put out 150 horses . I wouldn't care myself this car is beautiful.

That’s not the original 5.0, the centre bolt valve covers give it away for starters. It’s been nicely done that’s for sure!

is it possible to change it to fuel injection, twin turbo and electric timing control like a new car these days?

Yes, anything is possible with enough money and hot rod know-how. The good thing about this platform is that it will swallow any GM V8 engine within the front fenders. Pontiac, Chevrolet, Buick and Oldsmobile engines all were available in Firebirds from the factory. Today modern LS engines are sometimes swapped in, a robust choice for EFI and turbo applications.
