This here is an exceptionally unique, loaded 1980 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am "Pace Car Edition". Running from 1967 to 2002, the Pontiac Firebird remains one of America's most beloved muscle cars. In fact, the Pontiac Firebird and the Chevrolet Corvette were the only two American cars to continue to offer genuine performance throughout the 1970s. While the automotive market shifted towards larger and larger cars with larger V8s that didn't make much power, Pontiac decided to go all in with turbocharging on a V8 platform. While Buick was using a 6-cylinder, Ford a 4-cylinder, the Turbo-Trans Ams offered a glimpse into the future of performance with technology that seemed almost alien to drivers then, but is extremely commonplace today. In 1980, Pontiac was invited to pace the 64th Indy 500 with its newly restyled Firebird. To commemorate the occasion, Pontiac built just 5,700 Firebird Pace Car replicas to sell to the public at a high premium. This Trans Am, being an official Pace Car replica, came loaded with options from the factory. This sharp Firebird is powered by the factory 4-barrel, turbocharged 301 C.I. V8. There was no boost gauge, instead there was an integrated turbo boost "lightbar" in the hood with 3 sequential lights indicating the amount of boost getting to the engine! These lights were built into the rear facing edge of the hood bulge, just ahead of the driver on the front bonnet. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transmission and a 3.08:1 "Safe-T-Track" rear axle. In addition, the "Cameo White" paint with grey graphics are laid out beautifully over an incredibly straight body that has been buffed to a fantastic shine. The interior is still in excellent shape, with the "Hobnail Cloth/Doeskin Vinyl" holding up very well. Like all other fully-loaded pace car replicas, this Pontiac comes fitted with cruise control, air conditioning, power steering, the "WS6 Special Performance Package" with 4-wheel disc brakes, power windows, a working factory AM/FM/Cassette stereo, a power trunk, high-low lights, a tilt steering wheel, factory working gauges (with clock and tachometer), a power antenna, red backlit instrumentation, and a working factory "Boost Lightbar". This special Trans Am rides on a set of original "turbo" alloy wheels painted in "Cameo White" on top of BF Goodrich 225/70R15 RWL radial tires. This Trans Am is something you definitely don't see every day, and it is waiting for the right person to take it back out on the road!

Their is a fast idle weight on the electric choke. It could be sticking and it can also be adjusted to whatever rpm you want your fast idle to be. When you kick it down the weight drops and the secondary choke pull off rod ( not the primary choke pull off that controls the speed of the secondary flap opening) on the bottom on the rear of the carb should pull it back if not that could be bad. It's vacuum operated. If this is not working, your secondaries will not open and you will feel resistence in the pedal when you floor it. Also your tach is reading like a 3.08 car should. you will be around 2,800 rpm at 75 ish. The tach and speedo needles will be close to horizontal on each guage.

You never got on it. Very disappointed. Still a beautiful car but you didn't show what it can do. Or maybe can't since you didn't prove it.

Never got the appeal of the Tras Am's. Guess being born in 1955 I just never could grasp of the later body style's much after the mid 70's. I mean, I don't hate it... Just don't love it.
