Labor Day without The MDA Jerry Lewis Telethon has been an odd feeling - as if something is missing. Many thanks for these uploads! It’s wonderful to see Sammy Davis and Jerry. So it’s certainly a blessing to be have this tape for the coming years.

As kids, we looked forward to this every year! This was the days before cable and MTV, and was pretty much the only way to see your favorite stars and musicians performing live! It was also the last hurrah before the new school year started. My grandpa built me a playhouse in the backyard, that had electricity, and every year, I would drag my TV out there, and all my friends would come spend the night. We would stay up all night long watching the telethon, and running back and forth between our house and the playhouse, grabbing snacks and using the bathroom. It would make my Dad so mad because we’d be banging around the kitchen at 3am! Such great memories! Thanks for sharing this!

The ultimate schmaltz fest! I remember watching this one and many others from the 70’s. It’s nice to see the old clips. As much as Jerry loved doing these telethons, I think after Ed McMahon past, Jerry should of ended it. When he was up in age, it was harder for him to do these all-nighters. He had to do the telethon sitting down and didn’t have the strength to stay up. He would quit around midnight and he would have a guest host pull the telethon through the midnight hours, then he would come back to finish it sitting in a chair. The 70’s and mid 80’s were his best telethons.

Growing up in 1070s Jerry Lewis especially the telethon weekend were like Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. A mystical creation of a make believe world. Later in life to learn about Lewis's prurient narcissism and callousness towards his own children broke a bubble like many in life to remind us how cruel the world is. RIP Sammy.
